This is why I was so surprised when Trump implied that the US might reduce its commitment or even withdraw from NATO if the other members won't increase their defense spending. I was surprised for two reasons. First, the US makes the most amount of money from being in NATO - Americans are pissed that the US spends billions on military aid for Ukraine, but who do you think benefits from that the most? Who fullfilles those contracts? The US military complex. You think those billions should have been spent on improving the lives of Americans and you're probably right, but the reality is that money was never meant for American citizens. Only American interestes. Second reason is that since 1990 only one country truly benefited from NATO - the US. The only time when Article 5 was activated was after 9.11. Do you really think that Trump will be able to go against the US military complex? This is a genuine question, I'm not being facetious. Republican voters seems to think so, but I think it's naive to believe that.

What about the 2 Minsk Agreement... Russian were duped just so Nato had time to build up Ukraine Military capacity .
@andrewadams6905Ай бұрын
Russia broke Minsk agreements immediately after agreed upon ceasefire (Feb 15, 2015) by continuing to attack Ukrainian town Debaltseve and capturing it on Feb 18, 2015.

Yeah, built so much military capacity that Ukraine received first weapons (not a lot of Javelins) only couple month before the invasion.

@@andrewadams6905 It's factually false. Misnk 2 was not about Debaltsevo, but what will happen after. Poroshenko never claimed Debaltsevo events to be a violation of Minks treaties. But Ukraine indeed break those accords multiple times by performing full scale offensives (al least 2 times) to seize control over grey Zone. That is well known and well documented. In Ukraine is was named "net kapitulyazii" movement.

PBD flunked his recital of standard Russian propaganda within the first 5 minutes as soon as he claimed that "Azov battalion existed in 1991" which proved that he is clueless in the history of Russo-Ukrainian war.

1) Ukraine not joining NATO is not a part of the Budapest agreements. 2) Ukraine did not attempt to join NATO prior to the Russian invasion of Crimea as it believed that it had an agreement with The USA and the United Kingdom that they would protect Ukrainian Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity - so NATO membership wouldn't be needed for Ukraine, or shouldn't have been an issue for Russia as two of the strongest NATO countries were pledging to come to Ukraine's defense.

Pretty good simplified explanation of the conflict. Very unexpected to hear it from someone in US. Very brave of you, sir. No doubt you just earned a lot of haters. Just wanted to point out one very important fact. Ukraine never possessed (owned) nuclear weapons. It was Soviet Union weapons stored on a territory of a newly created state. Ukraine had no controls over them at no point of time. We no doubt have nuclear weapons stored in a state of California. If California declared independence and it was accepted by the rest of the country, would governor of California get the nuclear codes and all of the nuclear weapons would remain in CA? No, absolutely not. It is the same with Ukraine which never had (owned, possessed) nuclear weapons.
