@@ameame32 Presumably the same reason Russia wants to expand west. Whoever expands the farthest has the advantage in a theoretical war. Ironically though, Russia is providing plenty of motivation for said eastern european countries to want to join NATO. After all, that's the reason Russia can get away with attacking them, they're not in NATO.

True! US also helped fuel this conflict by offering NATO membership to Ukraine , which was hopeless and went against the opinion of most of the world. It could never join as Ukraine has its own internal conflict and corruption, so first and foremost- US needs to drop any offers of Ukraine joining NATO. A similar agreement to the Minsk 2 agreement is the best we have to solving this.

That's an excellent analysis. The author does not mention at all the problem of NATO enlargement, which the Russian government has consistently stated since at least 2008, he does not talk about the illegal military coup in which Western governments were directly (sic) involved, he does not talk about the fact that the entire southeast of Ukraine consists of historical Russian territories administratively attached to Ukraine by the Soviet government. Turns out it's all about economics and gas fields (here the author is practically describing the reasons why Americans traditionally act to rob the natives). And it's also amazing that the Soviet Union had to look for gas and oil in the taiga, in distant Eastern Siberia, thousands of kilometers away in impenetrable forests, when, it turns out, this wealth was right on the coast of Crimea all along. The author is talking nonsense and is not shy.

It would be more accurate to say the cold war ended with the fall of the Soviet Union. But the "end of history" never actually occurred because neoliberal policy adoption has been lackluster at best in Asia since they were given time to watch its failure in South America. What we're seeing now has very little to do with military or colonial expansion, but instead resource management as a consequence of western interference during the maidan revolution. Had that never occurred, Russia and Ukraine would have likely reached equitable deals on gas exploration ages ago.
@romanlinnik7441
@romanlinnik7441 2 жыл бұрын
@@TropicalPriest the USSR never fell. It only transformed. And it transformed into something horrific, with even more blatant lies, with outrageous hypocrisy on display. Putin is a former KGB agent and a lot of his gang mates can be traced back to USSR. The dictatorship never left, Russian people never had a chance to voice their opinion and be heard. '91 started a mad dash to the finish line (which was indicated by the presidency/how hard you can squeeze the public after it got the taste of freedom), this is when the true nature of elites became very apparent. Putin won, whether by being lucky or purposefully getting close to Eltsin, it doesn't really matter now. The man holds the entire country hostage for over 20 years, strips it of everything valuable, plays the emperor: just as he was taught under the sickle and hammer. He will NEVER do or propose a productive or peaceful solution to a problem, because he was brought up by a language of violence and power.

The US State Dept (filled with former Eastern European Jewish refugees) and the US military industrial complex who for 30 yrs (since the fall of the Soviet Union) have indulged themselves to expand NATO at all costs, forcing all former Soviet republics to submit themselves with the threat of coups and toppling their Democratically elected governments at will. The latest one being Kazakhstan this January. Earlier in 2014, it was Ukraine. Before that in Georgia. Next on the list is Belarus and Kazakhstan. All in the hopes to encircle Russia, place nukes close to Moscow to counter Russian hyper-sonic delivery capabilities and neutralize Russia military superiority in that region. Unless US/NATO expansion is halted eastward and Russia's security concerns are taken seriously and not dismissed with the usual US arrogance, things will only escalate. US war establishment will keep constantly poking the Russians to enrich their coffers. Putin's rational and measured actions pertain to the Donbass region where the CIA trained (arms supplied) Ukrainian neo-nazi militia are committing genocide against Russian speaking civilians in that region of Ukraine. For 8 yrs, Russia has been pleading with Ukraine to abide by Minsk agreements and no attention was paid to it by Ukrainian puppet government installed by US/Israel and flanked by NATO vassals. Now exhausting all options, Putin has finally drawn a red line and took action to secure the lives of ethnic Russians in the Donbass region. For any concerns regarding unilateral actions by Russia, read the US 'Monroe doctrine' on how it set the stage. Imagine the Russian and China start placing their military assets in Cuba Lain America. The US does everything unilaterally, whenever it pleases and wherever it wants. Does Yugoslavia ring a bell and creating a Kosovo? It will make sense why Russia is always on guard with the constant US expansionism impulse under any pretext. You can fool the western public using misinformation, disinformation, fake news and decades of carefully choreographed Hollywood propaganda from childhood. But facts are facts and it rings louder eventually. US establishment with its usual media propaganda and on the ground CIA operations wanted to make sure that Russia gets dragged into Ukraine and other wars in order to effectively place sanctions on it and cripple the Russian economy so that a weakened Russia can be brought into submission and allow NATO to expand to their borders and eventually into Russia itself to oust Putin, their penultimate enemy before taking on China. While the US global dominance declines rapidly, it will get more and more reckless and desperate to create conflicts everywhere to present itself as the solution. The US dollar hegemony is cracking immensely and the other big powers are getting ready to take action at the appropriate time. Until then, the US will engineer as many new conflicts as possible with its global peers while the situation at home gets worse and worse as the quality of life for ordinary Americans goes down significantly.

For Europe, energy independence is just not feasible. If Europe as a whole started building nuclear power plants (the fastest, cheapest way to get off fossil fuels), the demand for uranium would boom. Kazakhstan is one of the biggest exporters of uranium and is also another ex-Soviet Union country. If Europe went truly green (solar energy for example) they would still need to import the materials to build large scale solar panel fields and the demand for these materials would be so high that basically it would be the new oil. There's just no winning for Europe. There's a reason why historically Europe has been at war in one way or another for the majority of its history - lack or imbalance of resources.

Good information but a bit slanted towards the Ukrainian side. There is no mention of the fascist elements that took over Ukraine from the 2014 color revolution. There are laws that prevents Russian from being spoken among Ukrainian. If Ukraine consider Crimea part of Ukraine, how can they take away a fresh water for over 2 million residents? Not in the mood? It's a war crime. NATO isn't a pacifist block. It has engaged in invasions after USSR collapsed. I hope the Nebula video is more balanced on why Putin behave the way he does instead of for the glory of the old days. He is trying to protect the best interests of Russian citizens which is why he is popular in Russia.

There are of course other sociological and perhaps "spiritual/ideological" issues at play here which are outside the scope of the video (Russia's "origin story" in Ukraine, the power dynamics behind the various regime changes, the historical significance of Crimea for Russia and the reasons why the takeover of Crimea was so popular in Russia and had such little international backlash, historical reasons for the population makeup across Ukraine vs. the Donbas, the important historical contrast between Abkhazia/S.Osettia and the new "republics" in Ukraine, etc.) but I honestly can't see how you could make a more insightful, concise and professional 30-minute overview on this appaling situation than this. I have watched multiple videos, read numerous articles, documentaries, news reports, etc. None of which were particularly helpful because all of those have different reasons and concerns. EDIT: Help my comment started an argument in the replies :((

This is mostly about Russia wanting to control its former colonies and feeling weak as many of them drift away from Russia. Russia has seen its territory and influence shrink to its smallest in centuries. NATO is a defense pact and would never attack Russia in an offensive attack (when has a nuclear nation attacked another nuclear nation?). NATO would only fight for defensive purposes. Russias concern is that it cannot use force or the threat of force to control/influence any nation if it’s part of NATO. That is why he fears any former Soviet colony joining NATO Since it means Russia will have lost almost all influence and control over it. Furthermore, many Russians including Putin (confirmed it in the speech when the invasion started) have a belief that Ukraine belongs to Russia or the Russian people. So it is even a bigger interest of Russia to control Ukraine thus prevent it from joining NATO or EU.

The whole strategic essence of Ukraine and Crimea is here: 16:38 - 17:03 (except Natural Resources) Keep in mind that 6 countries (+ Abkhazia) have access to the Black Sea. Of these, three countries are members of NATO, and two more countries want to join. + ships of either the US Navy or the British Navy regularly loom in the Black Sea. Russia really wants to send them home. History shows that when the Ottoman Empire owned Crimea, it dominated it. And Russia does not want NATO domination in the Black Sea.

It is important to understand that Russia is not acting for its own financial gain. Look at it from a different perspective, we are ready to sacrifice both people, who are few, and the system, exchanging Communism for Capitalism, just to avoid war. Russia stands for the development of humanity, and many countries understand this - Africa, China, Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia, etc. Look at Libya before the civil war and after, is someone going to help it stop the conflict and start developing? For some reason, America is not engaged in ending civil wars, most likely because it itself is actively engaged in internal confrontation and has contradictions.

Russia has a much larger reserve of gas and oil than Ukraine, and therefore Ukraine can never and will never be the 2nd petro state in the world and compete with Russia. By the way, Russia is friends with Kazakhstan, former soviet republic. According to the official OPEC data, Kazakhstan has oil reserves in the amount of 30 billion barrels, which is 1.93% of world reserves and is ranked 11th in the world by this indicator. In comparison, Russia owns 80 billion barrels, 5.16% of the global oil reserve and has the 7th place in the world. Well, what about Ukraine…Ukraine owns only 0.395 billion barrels of oil and is ranked 41st in the world. Feel the difference, as one says. I mean, there is no point in seizing Ukraine and its so-called "huge" resources, this is a complete nonsense. Russia always tries to maintain friendly relations with all former Soviet republics. And Ukraine mainly imports gas, since it cannot extract its own due to the deep economic crisis in recent years. Quote: “Ukraine's exclusive economic zone within the black sea MAY contain more than 2 trillion cubic meters worth of natural gas”. Pay your attention to the word “MAY” which means the possibility,”highly likely”, but not the confidence about it. There is no evidence of it in the video, just some reflections about it.

America doesn't need a strong Russia because Russia is a direct competitor to America in the political arena. And Russia is one of the few countries that can compete with America. And Europe has been telling the whole world for 20 years that it does not want to pay Russia for resources, although Russia is the main supplier for Europe in the field of energy and resources. That's why Europeans and America have united in an alliance. Also, for the last 20 years there has been the biggest operation of brainwashing people through social networks. And all social networks belong to America. People in Russia and people of allied states were brainwashed through KZbin, Instagram, Facebook and so on. Specially pitted people against each other. It was America's operation against Russia. America paid for the coup in Ukraine. After the coup, America put its puppet actor at the head of the Ukrainian state. Now it is supplying weapons and meanwhile Europe is attacking with sanctions. And Ukrainian people are free soldiers. After the Ukrainian coup d'état there were coup attempts in Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Armenia. All these coups were provoked by the American side. Here is the answer why Russia is at war with Ukraine.

Modern teaching of history in schools just focus on tell you what happened without any real passion. Schools don't truly foment people into getting interested in history, they're too cold unlike youtubers like this one who make you feel invested in history

It’s crazy all of this stuff happens despite what the people of each country’s opinions are on each decision. Who the hell makes these decisions and gets them approved.

Чем отличается пропоганда от журналистики? Журналистика озвучивает факты и предлагает выводы сделать слушателю. Тут мы видим только взгляд с одной стороны. И чем такие видео ведут только к продолжению войн.

I think it missed a couple of points about people under western sanctions (from 2014 against people of LDNR/Crimea) and the issue of Minsk agreements in 2015. But generally it's very well researched balanced!

I didnt imagine it's also about resources. Yeah I know Ukraine has farm land of great value but didnt knew they found new gas reserves. For europe it couldve been very convenient to make a great economy of Ukraine and to have that stronghold against Russia. Through it's annoying when some times media presents the issue as Russia bad the Free world good. Despite fact that free world has had wars on every corner of the planet.

@@animesh390 The government got toppled. Some claim the coop was funded by the CIA, others claim revolution (haha?). I think the Ukrainians deserve their own country, but I guess it's very tough to be able to resist becoming a bufferstate or a puppet to either the US-EU alliance or Russia, like Belarus is. I think the people there are deserving of their own state, but due to being the border they have to thread carefully.

@@dylanc9174 Congratulations for having the good fortune to be living in a "low violence and democratic" nation, benefits which NATO, the organisation you speak highly of here, have worked hard so that such benefits will NOT to be easily acquirable/accessable in other, usually resource heavy and more 'brown' nations.

This needs proper translation into Ukrainian and Russian. Especially the parts with the gas fields in Ukraine! And then to spread this information far and wide to citizens of these countries.
