I do not know if you have a source, but I am looking for the exact transcript of the debate. Not a source about the debate, but the debate itself.

I do! Here is a link to a translation that I quote in the video: www.jffp.org/ojs/index.php/jffp/article/view/904

I also have a full transcript (in French), but I can't remember where I saved it/found it

I'm always amazed at how few people have any idea about the Bergson vs Einstein saga.... great video, and good for you for covering this! Bergson is one of my favourite philosophers.

Thanks for commenting! Yes, I am researching Bachelard right now, and almost every he says is a response to Bergson. Bergson is probably one of the most important, but often forgotten, philosophers of the 20th century. Glad to see he's still got some fans out there!

@@MichaelGranado1 yes and thanks for it, it was helpful. At the end of it you say you'll do a follow up video. Looking forward to the Part 2 :)

@beetle127 Oh yes 🤣 . There are several follow-up videos I need to do. Thanks for watching!

That was well done! I haven't found anyone who totally explains Bergson but try putting together Stephen Robbins (KZbin channel) and Rupert Sheldrske. Add a drop of the Hindu/Buddhist concept of chitta and you get an approximation off Bergson, who was WAAAAAYYYY ahead of his times.

Are there any books you recommend to catch up on the historical context (not just limited to the political aspect) around this time period?
@MichaelGranado12 жыл бұрын
Yes! 1. First and foremost I’d recommend “The physicist and the philosopher by Jimena Canales. Its an entire book about the debate, as well as a deep dive into Einstein and Bergson. 2. Einstein’s War by Matthew Stanley (referenced in the video) is a good combination of political history/history of science. 3. Quantum Generations by Helge Kragh is a (VERY dense) history of 20th-century physics, specifically quantum mechanics.
@MichaelGranado12 жыл бұрын
Oh, I forgot to add Cristina Chimisso’s “Writing the History of the Mind.” It covers French intellectual history in the 20th century. Its also pretty dense though.

On the broader cultural context for that period, I would recommend Stephen Kern's "The Culture of Time and Space, 1880-1918".

Very interesting video but I don't think you have truly understood Bergson idea about duration and time nor the concept of intuition.

I'm still learning about Bergson. Recommendations welcome!

A Very unsatisfying analysis; the intro to the video contains all sorts of background information and tangential commentary that is largely irrelevant to the main topic, which wouldn't be so bad if the video didn't end so abruptly without providing any substantial analysis of Einstein's and berkson's positions. I am very much left with the impression that the host of the video doesn't really have a grasp on the issues
@MichaelGranado12 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching? 🤣 If you want a more detailed analysis you might be better off reading a book. I'd highly recommend Jimena Canales' "The Physicist and the Philosopher." Although, since I don't have a grasp on the issue you probably won't take a book rec from me. The joys of having an educational channel.
