I have one of the special editions with lights and sounds as well as one of the last releases. I think I will build one for my wife with my own custom lighting. Unlike me, she doesn't care about accuracy. Thank you, Jerry for the videos. Always enjoy em.

I built the 1st one in 1979. It had 3 or 4 flashlight bulbs jn the saucer. This was before l.e.d.s. My lights, unfortunately, didn't work. I did something wrong but I don't know what.

Man, the LED lights have come a long way since back then. Even down to the amount of the heat that they produced. I totally destroyed the one I built back then as well.

Back when ATM/Matchbox made the molds for this kit they didn't make it 100 percent accurate and when AMT merged with ERTL it was made even more inaccurate with the extra engraved lines all over the hull. Have you thought of doing a comparison between the smoothie and one of the later releases??

I actually do plan on doing a comparison video of the original molds vs the most recent molds for the "Smoothie" kit as well as the AMT Enterprise S951 kit.

@@TrekFanNCC-1701 What I meant by smoothie is a reference to the first release of this kit before all of the extra lines were added to the molds, that's what the guys on Hobby Talk and Starship Modeler call it, which fits when one stops to think about it. I should have mentioned that yesterday, my apologies.

Jerry I am afraid to ask you, do you know if they make original series 1:537? Not Necessarily AMT but any company.

Well as far as the Original Series Goes, AMT does The Enterprise in 1/650 Scale. I believe the Romulan Ship as well as the Klingon Battle Cruiser are also in 1/650 scale. Polar Lights does the Enterpirse, Romulan Ship and the Klingon Battle Cruiser in 1/1000 Scale. Polar Lights also does the USS Enterprise in 1/350 Scale as well. I don't know of another model company other than AMT producing kits for the Original Series as they had the contract License to do so. Sorry, hope that helped.

I believe the TOS cut-a-way 1701 is the only one that comes close. Problem is its the "cut-a-way".
