The Fender Stratocaster, colloquially known as the Strat, is a model of electric guitar designed from 1952 into 1954 by Leo Fender, Bill Carson, George Fullerton and Freddie Tavares. The Fender Musical Instruments Corporation has continuously manufactured the Stratocaster from 1954 to the present. It is a double-cutaway guitar, with an extended top "horn" shape for balance. Along with the Gibson Les Paul, Gibson SG and Fender Telecaster, it is one of the most-often emulated electric guitar shapes. "Stratocaster" and "Strat" are trademark terms belonging to Fender. Guitars that duplicate the Stratocaster by other manufacturers are sometimes called S-Type or ST-type guitars.
The guitar introduced into the popular market several features that were innovative for electric guitars in the mid 1950s. The distinctive body shape, which has become commonplace among electric guitars, was revolutionary for the time period, and for the first time a mass-market electric guitar did not significantly resemble earlier acoustic models. The offset waist, double cutaway, elongated horns, and heavily contoured back were all designed for better balance and comfort to play while standing up and slung off the shoulder with a strap. The three-pickup design offered players increased versatility and choice in tone quality over earlier one- and two-pickup electric guitars, and a responsive and simplified vibrato arm integrated into the bridge plate, which marked a significant design improvement over other vibrato systems, such as those manufactured by Bigsby. All of these design elements were popularized and later became an industry standard due to the success of the Stratocaster.

I bought a player strat a few months back and I love it. It's been what I've been looking for a guitar ever since I started playing. It sounds great, has an iconic look, and it's pretty reliable as well. If anyone is getting a guitar under 800, you should consider the strat.

I agree the alnico 3 formvar wire strat pickups sound beautiful almost magical. The poles were also slightly larger diameter. They are really a treat to play. The neck pickup especially. This is what the Eric Johnson neck and middle pickups are and the bridge is alnico 5 for more power. I have these and they are really nice. I know they aren't as good as the vintage 54 pickups but they do have nice tone and are similar in terms of tone and build spec.

i don't know why, but since I was a kid I've always thought the big headstock was older than the small one, because everything, the logos and the tuners seems so classic for me. The small headstock with the spaghetti fender logo and rounded tuners looks more modern for my taste. When I found out the 54 strat was the first one Leo Fender ever made and its headstock was the small one, It really was a suprise. I think those small ones looks pretty "shy and too correct". The big ones looks more "rebel and agressive" and I really like that bullet at the end of the thust rod.

BigBrain Time It’s probably due to having an accurate ear for tuning. Standard tuning is not technically perfect sounding to the ear. That’s why some artists tune their G and B strings differently. Thanks for your sarcastic contribution, but I’m afraid to say, it’s statistically unlikely that I would even own a guitar under $100. My guitars were all in the $1000-$2000 range.

Fantastic video. I still don’t get why in general 1965 is referred to as pre-cbs. The only day they made pre-cbs guitars in ‘65 was January 4. By the next day they were taken over by cbs. And, about the transition logo; it’s said in The Fender chronicles that the only reason it’s on some ‘64 stratocasters is because the guitars with these on were assembled after cbs took over - from ‘64 parts that is. Leo Fender didn’t like that logo on the stratocaster.

Marchel Haven’t seen all that many tbh. I’m pretty sure 7 1/4 was kind of a fender-wide standard for a while at the start. I’m definitely willing to be wrong about it though. When an instrument is “vintage” in spec, it almost always has the sharper radius, unless it’s a modified, haven’t taken noticed that also?

That 54 ash is the best sounding. I agree with everyone; This video was rushed and he only got to play one pickup from each of the guitars, which didn’t showcase the guitars and their tones specific to their years.
