This is way inaccurate. French Empire was way larger in North America and in India. Morocco and Tunisia were part of it as well.
@xAnonymousComedia8 жыл бұрын
In the video it show morocco as a part from 1914 to 1946, but French never colonized whole of morocco, they just colonized the big cities. While Spain colonized the Sahara and some northern cities

The Bad GUY Actually not, Morocco was under full French protectorate (1915-1956), which means the country kept a very low interior sovereignity and was privated from its exterior decision makings.

Divinspree thats a joke and if you think that you clearly havent studied history enough. New France in North America was hardly populated until much after it was first established and they also got kicked out of India by the British pretty early on. Whatever they still had in India wasnt much at all.

Morocco and Tunisia were not French colonies but French protectorates. Just like French Indochina by the way. As for Lebanon and Syria, they had a different status (neither colonies nor protectorates).

The area of influence in North America and India was way bigger. And we don't speak of Colonial Empire since the 1960's and the decolonisation which granted independence to all colonies. Now the remnants, which amount for 1% of the former Empire, are overseas departments and collectivities, they are part of France and not colonies...

The professional youtube historians here will have you thinking the french empire was something incredibly special. It wasnt. Look how short lived it was compared to the other empires. Nearly all of New France in North America was taken over by the British then Napoleon got his ass kicked in a relatively short amount of time by the british at waterloo and that was the end of french "hegemony" in Europe. France's african possessions were short lived as well, ending sometime beteeen 1950s and 1970s. And the myth of the "french conquest of england" is also garbage. It was the NORMAN conquest. Normans were descendants of vikings and nordic/norse peoples who came to northern france and took part of it over. Then they assimilated into france but they werent considered "french".

***** The French empire combined was second in land mass, Spain was probably the first real colonizer with portugual.
@Fro7enDesigns9 жыл бұрын
***** The French first and second empire are slightly bigger than the Spanish empire. Total Spanish Empire: 19.4 million km2 Total of French empire: 21.1 million km2 But you're right, Spain was ahead of France in most of the 19th century, and ahead of Britain. France also controlled Spain for a while and France had puppet stated like Mexico. After WW2, France had the Largest empire in the world and I think still does in territories. It really varies a lot. Spanish were first to colonize before brits or french. But the British at the max of their empire had a total land mass bigger than any other previous empire.

You're clearly misinformed, France never owned all of North America, Spain reached the Southwest before France could, even if you ignore UK possessions in the East. However, they had a lot more than was shown in this video; that's what you get when you skip Napoleon and 70 years of territory changes.
@maximeschmitt20946 жыл бұрын
There's a huge difference between French colonization and British colonization: the French didn't colonize their colonies. There are just 2 exceptions: Canada (but only 60,000 French people when France ceded this colony to England) and Algeria (but all the French left this country in 1962).
@EdinburghFive6 жыл бұрын
Colonization is more than the settling of people in other people's lands. It is by definition also: the action of appropriating a place or domain for one's own use. France was clearly a colonist imperial power.

of course bahamas is still a common wealth realm. but the commonwealth is no longer a political union. its now a international organization. the UK no longer has political control over the other countries.
@TheNecropolis2011 жыл бұрын
The commonwealth ceased to be a Political union after 1958 when the United Kingdom joined the European union. Canada Signed the North American Accord with the United states in March of 2010. its now in a defacto personal Union with the United States. India and Pakistan are thinking of Merging and becoming the South Asian Union. and Eventually Australia and New zealand will join to form a Oceanic union. Hong kong and Macao will be annexed by china and reintegrated with Guangdong province in 2047
