The critique is dumb. I want to buy pants on trend NOW. I don't have time to peruse ebay to find the perfect items. It's an opportunity cost to do so, which is why I pay for big box retail. It's easy. Also, trying to find 100% straight/classic fit chinos (meaning mid/high rise + >8" leg opening) sub $100 was next to impossible before the giant khakis. Stretch fabrics had infected menswear like an elastane virus. Lastly, the "problematic" history of clothing is so annoying. The arguments are either non-unique to chinos--since almost all clothing items have a class context--or so minor as to be frivolous--people didn't wear khakis on ivy league campuses post-GI bill *because* of their military context, they wore them *in spite of it*. Doing a Foucault-style genealogical critique of khakis doesn't really move the needle for most consumers, and it doesn't make you sound as smart as you think it does.

The vocal fry, the buzzwords, the over-reliance on big words. This verges on self-parody.
