History of the LORAN System

This is a shortened version of the 1947 "LORAN for Ocean Navigation" filmstrip produced by the Coast Guard as a sales pitch to commercial shipping lines to adopt LORAN (as a both a navigational aid and to assist in distress situations). Updated with a new narration track in place of the distorted period track, the film provides a brief wartime history of LORAN, and its significance to the American war effort.

LONG RANGE NAVIGATION: LORAN What do the O and the A stand for?? My guess is the A stands for ANTENNA.

No A stands for satellites they use today.

@@idontcare7961 BS. For reasons of national security, it is preferred to lead us to believe they use satellites. This way breaking the lines of communication seem impossible. However it is my understanding that everything is land based. LO=Long + RAN=Range. I've learned since I posted this question above.
