NK detonated nuclear bomb in 2006. Probably Iran will have a nuke sooner or later but having a small compact deliverable weapon is different science. For example you have hand grenade but no hands to throw it towards your enemy kind of makes it useless until you find an alternative.

it makes little difference, methane leaks from oil drilling both old and new, cattle farming, deforestation, road networks, air and sea trade networks, and gas based home heating, all produce massive amounts of greenhouse gasses, and meaningfully addressing it all would have needed doing decades ago, now all there is is mitigating a coming disaster into a less bad disaster, with the impacts of recent decades not even fully visible in the environment at the current time, and china would have massed coal powerplants regardless up to this point

Great work and most recommended to watch it. I understand it is difficult to create a short video on such a subject, so, really well done. However, personally I feel the case of South Africa should have been mentioned being a former nuclear power too and the only country fully giving up its weapons on its own will. And maybe also the case of the former Soviet Union states which were for a very short time also in possession of weapons to some extend when the Soviet Union fell apart.

India was the first country to adopt a "no first use" policy after its second nuclear tests Pokhran-II in 1998. In August 1999 the Indian government released a draft of the doctrine which asserts that nuclear weapons are solely for deterrence and that India will pursue a policy of "retaliation only". The document also maintains that India "will not be the first to initiate a nuclear first strike, but will respond with punitive retaliation should deterrence fail".

I believe that some crucial details were left out on the Manhattan Project, most notably that the US, while leading the Manhattan Project, did not have the UK join immediately, and in fact "In July 1940, Britain had offered to give the United States access to its scientific research, and the Tizard Mission's John Cockcroft briefed American scientists on British developments. He discovered that the American project was smaller than the British, and not as far advanced." It wasn't until mid war that the project was increased exponentially, and the British "Tube Alloys" was absorbed into the American project.

Edit: We're finally back in control of our channel. Thank you to everyone who supported us through this difficult time. We'll be back with new videos soon. Hi Geo History viewers. I'm the narrator of the English version of Geo History. I don't usually comment here, but times are extraordinary. As many of you have correctly pointed out, this channel and its French and Russian counterparts have been hacked. We're anguished and angry, but KZbin is aware and hopefully working on restoring our account. We're hoping things will be sorted out and that our videos will remain untouched. We've worked very hard to build a vibrant community of viewers over the past two years. What is particularly hard to understand is how someone thinks it's a good idea to hijack some else's channel and broadcast spam. How is that going to help anyone's cause? Obviously don't click on any links from the hacker's mindless, low-quality live streams. It goes against everything we stand for. We aim to spread knowledge, not spam. Supported by our community, we promise to be back in full force as soon as possible to continue our mission to educate. Thanks for bearing with us.

I was waiting to see the topic regarding the nuclear detonation in the South Pacific Ocean, and South Africa publicly announcing the destruction of it's nuclear weapons. South Africa is the only country to ever destroy it's weapons that it had developed, a very important mark on nuclear history. What other topics was skipped in this documentary?

Very good video! Just one correction: Chernobyl did not have a containment building around the reactor, just a normal industry building. That is why Three mile island accident was contained, because it had a containment building. If Chernobyl had a containment building too, it would not had contaminated the place with its radiation.

fun fact: in italy there was actually a conference if they shouldve built reactors to produce energy, but as this happened after the chernobyl disaster, most of the people voted no and so theres no nuclear reactors in italy.
@francescoi3741
@francescoi3741 Жыл бұрын
Actually there were already 5 reactors in the ‘70 and Italy was after USA and Uk for production. After three Mile Island some plants were stopped to improve controls and after Chernobyl the referendum results closed the nuclear power on Italian territory. A plant was not finished yet. However we are still managing the radioactive waste. That’s the main issue with this technology.

I like how it fails to mention the fact Ernest Rutherford split the atom first, I was excited for about a second when he mentioned him but that soon came with the realization that no one cares about New Zealand. He did it in 1918 if anyone cares. Also found out about how he fails to mention New Zealands role in the preventing Nuclear testing in the Pacific and creating a Nuclear exclusion zone around New Zealand.

I remember that Argentina during the 80s was developing a nuclear missile after Malvinas war was cancelled, later in the 93s a ballistic missile was being developed due to international pressure, it was canceled, since they did not want an arms race in South America, especially because in Argentina there is a great hatred of the British although we are not a threat to them, We literally give people money instead of giving them jobs, which generates a lot of budget deficits, besides being quite corrupt, the money disappears in 15 seconds.
