Apart from cultural contacts with the neighboring Ahom kingdom, the ruler of Assam from 1228, the Nagas had little or no contact with the outside world, including that of greater India, until British colonization and rule of the area in the nineteenth century.
In 1828, Britain annexed Assam following the Treaty of Yandabo in 1826. In the 1830s, the British sent expeditionary forces, and in 1845, the colonial power succeeded in concluding a non-aggression pact with Naga chiefs, who formerly had attacked bordering areas in Assam. But the Naga repeatedly violated the agreement, continuing to raid in Assam.
After the 1830s, British attempts to annex the region to India were met with sustained and effective guerrilla resistance from Naga groups, particularly the Angami Nagas. The British dispatched military expeditions and succeeded in building a military post in 1851 and establishing some bases in the region. In 1878 the Angamis mounted raids on British camps. The British responded with brutality, burning several Naga villages and killing Naga non-combatants to crush their resistance. Eventually, the region came under the occupation of the British.
During the First World War, two thousand Nagas contributed to the war effort on the European front. In the Second World War, their descendants remained loyal to the British and fought to halt the advance of Japanese forces.

Nagas and the Mizos are also not far apart. So many similarities are there between the two. I personally notice close similarities in the languages of some naga tribes with some mizo languages. Our ancestors had some stories about the relationship between the two tribes too.

It's not khaplang who started another NSCN group. It's Muivah & Isak who breakout fr NSCN and named their group NSCN(IM). Still remember calling them 'breakaway' group or new group nscn-im.

@@nosevolzao4713 come onnn dude😢😢 don't try to change the history, naga history was never good. like former Pm Nehru said "blood will flow like a river and bodies will pile up but we will never let go of Nagaland" Sir. phizo left nagas and lived in exiled(even before his exile the Nnc and Fgn were virtually finished) Do Nagas ever wander as to why did Sir. Phizo left nagas instead of fighting for freedom?

Mate, we can't survive the current world tension with independence. Don't forget that India itself have many tribes and people of different identities too. We've become dependent to each other since British united us. Also I don't trust China and Myanmar.

The information is not true . Naga people are simple and they love Netaji Bose . That's the main problem with Neroo & cong party . Also the white colonials were afraid of Netaji as Netaji fought against Brit colonials . White colonials divided and ruled Naga tribes . Same mentality was followed by Neroo govt after 1947 .
