Hey Sam! So good to hear your voice. And such an awesome subject! One that I have been interested in for a long time. I’m about 24 minutes in, and you are talking about a group called the Zott. Or at least, that’s how the Persians seem to be pronouncing it. I’m almost 100% sure that that is my own ethnic/tribal people group, and we, depending on where in South Asia we are, pronounce it differently. Usually, when it’s spelled in English, it’s spelled either Jat or Jatt. Actually, one of my sons uses it as a last name. He spells it Jatt. In Punjab, it’s pronounced Jutt. People who speak Hindi or Urdu, usually pronounce it Jott. A lot of the time, when South Asian words having a J sound enter the Persian language, the J turns into a Z sound. In our particular tribe, very very bold stories exist telling about a time when many members of the tribe left and headed west, and never came back. I don’t know enough of them really to give you much more than that. I am Canadian born and raised, and I’m still learning my ancestors traditions. But I just wanted to give you that little tidbit.

Very interesting. My Granny came from a section of Romania that had became part of Hungary. She was adopted by a Jewish family and came to Canada through the US with my Hungarian peasant grandfather in the early 1800. When she was around 15. She was told she was cursed by a fortune teller who told her she had to travel across an ocean to break the curse. I strongly believe she was Roma. It was known by family members that Granny was a gypsy.

Glen Kealey says the Roma/Rahmani/Brahmani were the original root races placed as re-searchers in Sri Lanka (IRS = paris, Parthian, Sri Lanka, Persian, etc) then later emigrated all around the world. Later got split into aBRAHAMIC monotheistic faiths (islam, zoroastrian, christianity, Judaism) as they went to middle east (Iran, balkans). Egyptians settled by gypsies. When they went north they split into hindu/Jain/Buddhists. Tao/northeast as they went Far East.

Many have theorized that the "Therapeutae" of Egypt, discussed in Philo, were hindu monks who came to Alexandria due to its well documented trade with India. Why is there no possibility that the Greeks were right when they called the Gypsies Egyptian? If it's possible that Hindu monks came to Egypt through its trade, why couldn't that have been the path to Europe for the ancestors of the Roma?
@Historiansplaining
@Historiansplaining Жыл бұрын
A current historian, Kristina Richardson, has recently researched the Roma community in Egypt, called Ghuraba, and it does seem very likely that at least one major Roma migration into Europe derived from that group. This is a very new and evolving field. You can see her discuss the Ghuraba in various places such as here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4O2lah5qJh0nMk

My family is Dutch - louder/laughter family but had children out of wedlock with gypsies. This caused my family to flee to the America's to get away from prosecution of having a bastard child with a Romani. We tracked them down to a boat in 1816 but that's about it. I have put the rest together after doing my research. I look white, and technically I guess am? But technically i'm not lol. We thought it was American native American but my mother religiously tracked the family and we had nearly 0 contact with American natives until the late 1890s~ when she found a picture of our somegreat grandfather beside a native man and they were both smiling very very big.

I thought it important to describe some parts of this cannon because this rare article accurately describes the historical events in question. Historical Narrative Historians and ethnologists who claim that the Roma came from the Indiesa Milia, because they rely only on one-sided knowledge. Their theory is based only on the linguistic level and does not take into account the Roma culture as a whole, which is more important for their identity than just their acquired language, which they use to communicate. If we agreed with this theory, we should consider all American blacks to be English. This theory is speculative and not correct. Sándor and Vraham greatly contributed to the disinformation about the Indian origin of the Roma, and the Roma themselves, when they wanted to deny their Jewish origin, invented various false stories about their real origin. However, the main blame for this lies with the forgers and misinformers of ancient history. There is a lot of Hebrew ancestry in Romani culture because they come from Israel not India and they are originally Hebrew Israelites. It is clear from irrefutable historical evidence that the Roma are the Jews of Samaria and are the people of the northern kingdom of Israel. Their capital was Samaria in northern Israel until 737-720 BC Now let's talk about Israel and Samaria. A historical biblical name used for the central region of the land of Israel, bounded on the south by Judea and on the north by Galilee. The first-century historian and Josephus set the Mediterranean Sea in the west and the Jordan River in the east as the boundary. Its territory largely corresponds to the biblical allotments of the tribe of Ephraim and the western half of the tribe of Manasseh. After Solomon's death and the division of his kingdom into the southern Kingdom of Judah and the northern Kingdom of Israel, this territory formed the southern part of the Kingdom of Israel. The border between Samaria and Judea was established at the latitude of Ramallah.

@@CaptainAce0711 Sure, "India" wasn't a country then, but rather, a geographic lablel for a general region in South Asia. I am sorry to say it though, but your description of the origin of the Roma is a mix of fable and wishful thinking. In regards to the origin of the Roma, there is plenty of anthropological, genetic and linguistic evidence in scholarly journals on this subject (which you can look up yourself on google scholar or academia - if you were *really* genuinely interested). The homeland of the proto-Roma population has been confirmed as the Northwestern Indian subcontinent, and they were likely Dalits. Marrying among yourselves (endogamy), makes this sort of genetic detective work easier as founder lineages are preserved, amongst other things.

Tippy towing through limbo yup. Yo yo goes up and down. (same old routine) is what I been saying for a long while. Now the advocate as told is bringing memory as I speak or text especially when I'm alone my mind is rationally Imagining all the information of the past as I listen to the wave with my minds eye I think of a lime. Hence the limelight. Lime light? On a wave? . Ha? Oh purity yup many superstition on purity.

There really is not such a thing as half blood because no Romani is a full romani, they would have had to have never bread with any person from india to the west and that just is not the case. So all Romani are genetically only part Romani. Culturally if you have two romani parents you can say you are a proper romani in a way . Also being dark skinned does not make you more romani. British Romany even a hundred years back and on the oldest photos do not look that dark skinned often. Romani is indian and also northern pakistan Buruskho who are very very light skinned and often blue eyed.

@@Edangiolino my ROM family are called black faces by other ROM or travelers and lots are still very dark but other families are lighter skinned.
