I have a Model 27-2 (second engineering series) that looks identical to the one in your video. Mine was manufactured in 1977. A couple of comments. 1st, this revolver did not become the "Model 27" until 1957, not in 1939. S&W did not issue model numbers on revolvers until 1957. Between the Registered Magnum and the M27 are several versions, called Non-Registered Magnums , Post-War Transitional, and The .357 Magnum (also called by collectors, the "Pre M27"). 2nd, The Model 27 is the only S&W revolver to have the fully checkered top strap and barrel rib. Others have either a plain top strap and rib or a rib with straight grooves down the length of the barrel and top strap. In addition to different barrel lengths, different style hammers and triggers could be ordered. The trigger on the revolver in the video is called a Target trigger, and the wide spurred hammer is a Target hammer. Narrower widths were the norm. This revolver was the first firearm to be chambered in .357 Magnum.

That there is known as a 3 T Revolver, with Target hammer, Target Trigger and target Stocks(grip "Goncalo Alves") this explains the ribbed wide trigger and also wide hammer. Known as Smith and Wessons Flagship Revolver with hand checkering all the way from back sight to front sight, no other revolver ever came with this extra Touch! Yes I have the Exact 27-2 in display case and it is Flawless!
I just got the Model 17 Masterpiece and am looking at the 6.5 inch version of this one to go with it. I think you made a good choice

Mine was carried by the chiff of police of Phoenix back in the 60’s. Only problem it's ever had was a spring broke and it was only usable in double action. Until I got it fixed and ever since not a single issue. But I got it after my granddad got It. Since they worked together so 60 years is not bad! I hope to get my grandad’s as we so I have to matching ones. But I shoot one inch groups with it !

Use some titebond wood glue in larger cracks. Thin down glue with a little water and pour into all the smaller/tight cracks. A suction cup can be used to force glue into smaller cracks. Clamp down with some wood clamps and let set up over night. Good as new! I’ve used this method on many gun stocks and even old guitar body’s.

My dad has one from 80s its a beautiful piece. Shoots amazing. Very heavy trigger. Definitely quick snap from single action. I believe it will half cock as well. Had a few quick loaders too. Just in case something needs killing in the woods.
