The three greatest playwrights have contributed much to Greek Theater. The Ancient Greeks took their entertainment very seriously and used drama as a way of investigating the world they lived in, and what it meant to be human.

Theater all began with tragedy. Comedy and Romance never existed in these times.

EXcellent video about the evolution of Greek theatre. It does strike me, in watching this, also to see the mythic erasure of women. Before there was Dionysis, "born of his father", there were female Goddesses of fertility and human sexuality, and women were allowed to participate in the rituals that became later Greek (exclusively male) theatre.

Hi Leon, you're absolutely right, but in Part I we have payed attention to this difference, at 6 min. and 57 sec. we say: "Note that the performance is indoors. In Aeschylus times the actors played in the open air, with thousands of spectators. So in those days the delivery was probably more declamatory than realistic."

Good job. To comment, Dionysus also is a revolutionary who turns the society on its head, overthrows the political structure, and frees women from their abusive captivity to be one with nature.

Medea's monologue is frightening; especially when she says "No, like some yellow eyed beast that has killed its hunters."
