My dad was blank owner and on the Ranger from 1933 to 1944 as a boatswain. I still have his service records. Abram Witt, Jr. was his name and retired from the navy in 1954. I have heard just about all the "sea-stories" there was.

My father, Raymond Closer, was on the Ranger. He was a rear-seat gunner. His plane was shot down and was reported missing at sea but later rescued.

I know that the deck ID designation was RNGR, does anyone know why they didn’t use a number ? The USS Enterprise and the USS Saratoga also used abbreviated letters on flight deck....EN......SARA. I can’t find any info of why letters for these ships instead of number designations ?

@Nathaniel De Sagun Roman well he did state it very clearly "In WW2 The Only Largest Aircraft Carrier Which Deployed In Europe Was The Ranger". he didn't say it was the largrest in the entire ww2. The keyword is "Europe"

It is always interesting to see these old films. I wish there was some narration to it. You have to wonder at least I do what became of those people that Lieutenant Commander sitting at his desk working on paperwork did he survive the war arise to command who was he it just very interesting to see all these people now long since passed and what happened to them have to wonder how their lives turned out with the upcoming War just very interesting very poignant thank you

Yes I have the same thoughts . It makes me wonder too, what each of their lives were like. What was their evening like , the day after they filmed?simply incredible shots if the construction of the ranger .
