What I can’t understand is with the amount of naval artillery, spotter planes. Often you hear the talk about untouched, ineffectual hits on the defensive block houses on the landing beaches. You hear that the aerial bombs landed in from the coast, and missed the defences completely. So much information seems contradictory and misleading.

Yes it does. I have had the same thoughts. How about bombers missing the target (or shells landing) by 5 miles?

I flew bombers in the Navy. At 400 knots a 30 second error would mean your weapons were a mile off target...add bad weather to that and there you have it. In WW2 bombers dropped on a lead bombardiers mark so all of them were off.

Ive only seen less than a minute when I had to comment. In General Omar Bradley's book, A Soldier's Story, he wrote that the plan from the very start was to have the British and commonwealth troops tie down the German panzer armies on the plains of Caen, while the Americans worked their way through the bocage country. It is indeed a wrong done to Montgomery when criticized that he was not moving fast enough or aggressive enough.

That,s rubbish, Caen should have been captured on D Day +2/3. Monty,s spin, everything going to plan a month later tieing down German Troop,s to aid the American breakout.

This video is so Britishcentric. It doesn't mention at all that the British and Commonwealth side took a long time to close the gap and so a ton of really good German soldiers escaped . Montgomery's son is just as big an idiot as he was. This video is really biased.

Patton should have been in commanf of the invasion not Monty!

Why do you say Montgomery + his son is an idiot? Just curious
@manic2360 Жыл бұрын
