Few explanations: HLC is a current military member. Most of his content is geopolitics and news. He has a bunch of characters, most of them countries, but also planes and Franklin the Raccoon. One Japan in this video was the Empire of Japan, the other one was modern day japan looking back at their own decisions made in the past. Modern day japan is a reoccurring character warning people about the mistake of threatening to touch americas boats (of course). The big plane you mentioned is a Boeing B-52 bomber. Also known as "The Buff". Because of how long its been part of the US military, the character is like a grandpa, but a grandpa that still got it and is willing to throw down. The "aaactually" plane you mentioned is a F-35. Hyper modern, access to the internet/world to provide the "actually" details. There are many more characters like the F-22, built to destroy everything, yet not having gotten the chance to do so, etc. Not all of his content is historical, a lot of it is very recent, though he does like history and he throws it in there regularily. On top of that he is an Air-defence and Missile, uhm, lets say: "enthusiast". He is also good friends with TheFatElectrician. They have been on several Unsubscribe Podcasts together and there are many highlight clips with the both of them, that you might be interested to react to. Great reaction and happy you decided to give his content a shot! Looking forward to more!

You added about the same context I did, with a bit more on the military characters, and you actually mentioned Franklin too. Lol I let him know what was up with the Canada thing. (Pretty sure the context was the War Crimes) HLC is definitely a fun watch, but idk if he does *enough* History for what Mr Terry wants. If he'll use him for current events with a history background (or history making events), that might work. But it could be hit or miss unless we're able to make a collection for him or notify him on more relevant ones.

So much lore for HLC's channel. He mainly covers current events. Each of the aircraft and countries are characters in his content. The B52 is Grandpa Buff the old timer. The F22 is the Kid. Hyperaggressive and frustrated because he hasn't got any action yet. Catchphrase: "Would you intercept me? I'd intercept me." The F15 is a cool older aircraft. Catchphrase is "104 and 0 look out below" The F35 is the nerd supercomputer. The F16 is sort of like the Deadpool of the group. The A10 is well not sure how to describe him. Kind of like Popeye on crack. The F18 has a Stone Cold Steve Austin like personality. Aircraft carriers are stoned California surfers. Poland is little European Texas The "Great China" as it refers to itself or West Taiwan as everybody else refers to it. Russia is commonly referred to as a special ed case. Japan in this video is split. The red Japan is 1940 and the normal map is current Japan. Anytime anyone says they are going to touch the boats, Japan typically drops a warning about having the sun dropped on them twice. The running joke about Canada is the war crimes list from WWI. UK, Germany, Ukraine, Iran, the Houthis, Florida, Canada, and Scotland show up as well. Oh and the F-22 Kid has a Racoon friend that he has fought once or twice for chicken nuggies. His content is well worth starting from his first upload and binging. Very funny

@warheadsnation
@warheadsnation Ай бұрын
The cruelty of the Japanese seems highly correlated to how much the locals hailed them as "liberators". They did their worst with the Chinese, who only wanted their country back, the Filipinos, who already had a deal for independence by '47, and the Vietnamese, who always resist. They did their best in Burma and Indonesia, which probably tells you how cruel the Europeans had been there. So many Burmese & Indonesians supported the Japanese that they were trained to form their own armies. Once the Japanese knew they would lose, they probably saw these armies as a form of revenge from beyond the grave. The Indonesian Army became the resistance that defeated the returning Dutch, but as victors would one day carry out several genocides. The Burmese Army because a virulently anti-Western clique (much like the Imperial Japanese Army) that keeps overthrowing the government and committing genocide to this day.

1:09 The technique with the moving mouth superimposition was called "Syncro-Vox". It was made famous in the 1959 animated series "Clutch Cargo", and the less well known "Space Angel" and "Captain Fathom". The technique was patented and apparently they won some sort of award for inventing it. It was also used in talking animal commercials from the 1950s. It still turns up from time to time as a meme or one-off use for comedic effect.

To answer a few of your questions and give context: - HLC is intimately knowledgeable on things like air-defense and uses that insight for his coverage - direct history stories like this are very rare, history is more often referenced in trash talk/reminders between characters - HLC usually covers Military/World current events (mostly), but he also will cover other notable current events - He does this commentary through his characters, which are either countries speaking, military platforms (planes, anti-air, and boats), and occasionally government organizations. (With this type of filter) - the military Platform characters would definitely be hard to pick up on out of context and not being a regular. - Grandpa Buff is one of the oldest US military platforms still in use today, so he has old veteran energy but with a lot of war stories of showing enemies who's boss and seen a lot of the modern conflicts the US has been in since it started service. - the other "Actually Plane," as you called it, is a modern plane that is essentially considered a "Flying Computer" due to all the smart-tech it has - he also has a few others like "the Kid" which is the F22 Raptor (overeager to actually see air combat and equally repressed from doing so), and several of the other primary US active planes and ships. (Each with their own personalities and voice) Also, the Canada side-jab was more about their War Crimes, like throwing cans of food to the German Trenches and following that up with grenades... (it is a recurring jab/meme/reference on the channel that kind of defines the duality of that character) - Canada has an unsettling "I'm aboot to stop saying soorry" vibe sometimes as a character (like when India had someone take out a citizen on Canadian soil, deserved or not, it crossed a line that strained things)

Yeah, whenever Unit 731 is brought up and someone didn't know that it was a true story, definitely is a step back. Also he was referring to the war crimes of Canada and the Geneva Conventions set up because of the Devil's Brigade's actions (Canadian-US unit.) History is fun. xP Bare in mind.. Japanese people today are not taught this history. They don't know about Unit 731, they are taught that Pearl Harbour was purely a military target, that there were no civilians present; they don't know about the hospital that was bombed, nor the Two schools that were bombed. They don't know about the civilian targets intentionally strafed with bullets by pilots. They don't know about the civilians that were taken prisoners and beheaded, etc, etc, etc. They're quite ignorant about the war. But when it comes to the Atomic bombing, they certainly have extreme passions about asking us to say sorry for it; not knowing anything about it, or why. Or even the fact that it was necessary to prevent them from not existing as a people. : / 250k total (from exposure in the long run) compared to 20 million?. Yeah.... They're not taught anything. And they have the gale today to tell us that we're not taught anything about "what America did to us in Japan."

HLC shines at covering the most current events. This was icing on the cake. Most of his videos are uber-time relevant, talking about that day's/week's military actions... and all the cool new stuff the US is working on. You will love each character. Each plane has a personality, voice, etc.

One element on the aircraft at Pearl Harbor / Hickam on the US side - they were even more vulnerable than they could have been. Elements of the US command structure were convinced the threat was going to be sabotage, so many of the aircraft were lined up outside so they could be more easily guarded on the ground. This left them lined up neatly outside when the attack struck.

The two Japans represent imperial Japan (pre nukes) and modern Japan (post nukes). The various planes represent different types of personalities within the American military: B-52 old warhorse that has seen some shit, F-22 pycho who is too dominant but never gets to go out on kill missions, F-35 super nerd, F-15 extreme confidence and competence

Comparison: Japan had no central party or Fuhrer planning out its fascism. By then the public was utterly compliant to the military factions infiltrating what on paper was still a constitutional monarchy. They embraced the military's new ideology & the invasion of China. The murderousness of the Army there went unchecked by ever-changing Prime Ministers. The mass murders involved far less planning & central directives than Germany's, but had become the Army's culture. For example, acts of cannibalism unknown in the European war. Germany ultimately was under the whims of one man. He had always wanted to do to Russia what the Japanese Army wanted to do to China. When he took over his Party worked hard to inculcate cruelty & recklessness into the population. Hitler ordered his generals to sign documents promising to ignore all restraints in Russia. His officials laid out Generalplan Ost, by which they calculated how many millions of Eastern Europeans would starve to death under German rule. Then they sent mobile death squads to carry out executions of special threats, only to find the logistics impossible. This led to the biggest plan of all, what we call the Final Solution. So I would say the difference was that Japan behaved as though it was still the same society while faceless officials commanded invasions that were worsened by the extraordinary cruelty of the officers & soldiers. Germany behaved as if it were a revolutionary society under a cult leader who personally normalized cruelty & made it part of centralized bureaucratic planning & calculation. Not much of a difference for the millions of victims either way.

In one video HLC, in character for the US; channeling his inner Buffalo Bill, called Japan, “It treats my boats like friends or else I drop the sun again.” And yes, he’s in the Army and does a podcast called “Unsubscribe” with FatElectrician and a couple of other creators. I highly recommend the book "At Dawn We Slept - The Untold Story of Pearl Harbor" by Gordon W. Prange. I see there is now a "revised" edition where a couple of authors slapped their "Afterwords" on the end of Prange's book well after Prange died. I don't know what's in their addendums - the copy I had was just Prange's book. Prange was a history professor who was brought in as General MacArthur's Chief Historian during the post-war occupation of Japan, so he had first-hand access to any surviving documents Japan had neglected to destroy during the surrender. Prange had written quite a few manuscripts after the war but most weren't published until after his death in 1980. A second book that was published was "Miracle at Midway" about the Battle of Midway. The exception to getting published after his death was a manuscript he had published in two parts in Reader's Digest called "Tora, Tora, Tora" - which became the basis for the screenplay of the movie with the same name (1970).

Tldr on characters (If someone hasn't done it shorter) "Grandpa Buff" the B-52, the oldest and longest serving combat aircraft. The 52 has also killed more people than cancer; it's acts as elderly 'don't give a fuck anymore' man F-35 is the flying stealth super computer This vid used both the historical Japan and the modern Japan Most of his videos actually do current world history especially the ongoing conflicts; he's currently in the Army as an Air Defender teacher with a lot of years there and pays a lot of attention to all the declassified stuff and then uses funny memes with little facts on countries/vehicles/etc to convey the information. He HAS done some other historical information but it's generally limited to aircraft stuff in scope. I highly recommend him; he's very funny and balanced

One was a Marine one of the few we got back from Wake the Japanese had beaten his hands into clubs. Why he was part of the shore defense batteries that sank a destroyer. Another was a 26th Calvary Bataan Death March survivor who started the war at 190 pounds and was recovered at 90 pounds. The 3rd was a 21st AAF 1st Lt bombardier they had burn out his eyes.

One thing a lot of people miss about pearl harbor was that although it was a successful surprise attack, it failed to achieve most of its goals. They failed to destroy the dry docks and the Fuel Storage areas, and as a result most of the damaged ships were successfully repaired and put back into service surprisingly quickly. Also the fact that our carriers were not in port at the time of the attack was hugely important to the course of the war

Another piece of history that a lot of people don’t know is Fleet Problem 13 . This was a military exercise that simulated a possible attack on Pearl Harbor from a militarized island nation. The commander of the attacking force was able to successful launch an aerial attack which disabled the airfields on Pearl and do extensive damage. The Japanese studied this exercise and made it the frame for their successful attack.

The US Congress had already authorized the building of a new navy bigger than the whole navy it had in the 1930s. Japan's reasoning could only be that its initial victories would cause the US to lose its will to fight back, leading to a negotiated defeat like the Russians in 1905. Yet it only took until 1943 for the new US fleet to overwhelm Japanese resistance as Japan could not replace its losses. This was the essential miscalculation.

Habitual Linecrosser is currently serving. As far as Pearl Harbor, in 1940-41, the battleship mentality was still alive and well. Specifically, FDR and the USN, saw the deployment of the Pacific Fleet to Pearl Harbor as a guard dog and warning to the Imperial Japanese. They never envisioned the Fleet as a sitting target. Battleships were the Queens of the world’s navies. Churchill did the same thing to Force Z, thinking two large warships would intimidate the Japanese. Most western powers were clueless as to the effectiveness of carrier warfare or the power of the Imperial Japanese Navy. But the way, Habitual Linecrosser is generally spot on with his videos.

I've never heard anyone claim the Pearl Harbor attack was the worst day. It was a surprise attack, and it significantly damaged our Pacific fleet, but I would not say the loss of life was particularly high or even the biggest impact of the attack - all due respect to those whose lives were lost. We lost 4 Battleships and we were lucky that was as bad as it got.

The 2 Japans are the current Japan, saying don’t touch the boats, and Imperial Japan, which has the old Japanese flag in the corner. Also, the planes represent themselves. The old plane, Buff, is the B-52 bomber, one that has been flying in the U.S. military for…like ever. The “super computer with wings” is the F-35. Each aircraft that he has in his videos has their own voice and personality, and they pretty much represent how that plane is viewed. The F-22 Raptor has a voice like Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs because he’s crazy and locked up, and can unalive pretty much anything. The more you watch him, the more you’ll like him. I believe HLC is currently in the US Army, and if I remember correctly, he is an instructor on how our air defense systems work and are utilized. Hope that helps. Enjoy his content. It’s great.
