4:42 ...between punk and metal. Dude that is a daring but very accurate description of the real Kurt Cobain sound!! (I mean his songs up until 'Bleach' - which is about where he started more and more to focus and specific structures and ultimately create Nevermind). This is why I recommend 'Incesticide' to anyone not really familiar with his music. To me that is just the full spectrum. Kurt is the main ingredient though, the songs rarely work for someone else.
@signoguns850110 ай бұрын
Pop, too. Kurts melodies were VERY pop. Not so much in the very early stuff, but definitely later... Very tuneful and melodic. His distorted scream voice gave it that raw edge. If he didnt have that, he would have sounded exactly like Michael Stipe. Nirvana were like a punk rock grunge noise pop band. They were totally their own thing

According to Kurt, He wanted to re-record everything on fecal matter with Jack Edino. But ultimately felt pressured by the 70s rock trend going on in Washington, so he ended up writing all the songs on bleach to fit in with the new Seattle sound.

This was a great video. I have to agree with you about being surprised they've never released a sort of "early recordings" boxset with the Fecal Matter tape in full, it seems like a no brainer considering they're basically released everything else Kurt ever recorded. It would probably be one of the few of those Cobain demo recording sets that I would actually be interested in buying. As for the songs on the tape itself, I've dug it ever since I listened to it on KZbin years back. You got really darn close with the guitar tones in this video, makes me want to consider grabbing another Behringher fuzz again.

Im lucky to have seen Melvins in the Ozma days a bunch of times in Nashville. The reason Kurt never joined Melvins was that Buzzo introduced Kurt to a drummer named Dave, Kurt heard Dave play, and the rest is history. Im proud to have witnessed small slivers of its beginnings. Those were good days
@TheAutisticlove Жыл бұрын
You've got your timelines really mixed up. Buzz introduced Dave and Kurt in 1990. Nirvana was already a band for 3 years, had recorded one album officially, a second unofficially, and had been through like 76000 drummers by that point. Kurt wanted to be in the Melvins, or a band like the Melvins, when he was in his late teens because there was nobody else doing that and he thought it was rad.

From what I've learned about Kurt, he was someone that knew exactly what it felt like to struggle just to have an instrument that worked, I feel like he'd relate with the person borrowing a second hand off brand guitar, using a $50 garage sale amp, with a $25 pawn shop pedal, far more than someone spending $15k to sound exactly like he did(I'm glad you show alternatives ^^). I can't imagine him being happy to know that the things available to him, borrowed or cheap, were now out of reach in price to most people, simply because he created an iconic sound using them.

I remember in early 00's I was in middle school and two songs from this demo leaked on MySpace although they were just little clips it was a HUGE deal on the NFC message board. So many fakes had surfaced throughout the 90s and 00s to actually hear the real deal was unbelievable. The sound quality of the clips were horrible(they were recorded by a computer mic), but the songs were clearly Cobain originals. Soon after this three full songs in decent quality were leaked. It all happened so fast. I look back on that part of my life and remember nothing but excitement. I would look at the J Card from the demo and think to myself "I wonder what Sound of Dentage sounds like?" and to actually HEAR it thinking you never would, in decent quality? It was AMAZING.
