You can say what you want about wealth and everything but IMO it came down to being lazy/not preparing. The guy knew it was weak and decided to risk it where as the other guy scrapped a project. Yes the details of the sword where fancier due to the money but that's not what failed.

Yeah only the part close to the tip is quenched properly... From that point I knew that the part of the blade that will be connected to the handle will break. Not quenched and the tension piles up there.. Cant blame him though. He got such a "traditional" machine and tools compared to the other guy.. It would be hard getting all parts of the blade shining hot together

@Evanimas Rich guy could afford to restart because proper equipment gives that luxury in the form of reduced labor for results. I didn't watch this full episode, but based on what we see here, that rich guy had a proper forge to heat up the blade while the other guy was using coal which has a significant disadvantage such as heating up the sword evenly... He took the risk because he had no choice to if we are being honest with ourselves and even if he did start over, using coal as the method of heat treating, chances are it would have the same result. This is not to say he shouldn't have restarted anyways, considering he absolutely knew it was soft in one of the most important parts of the blade.

@@mentos6280 durability is a good thing in a sword. However the carrier ensures the durability by preserving the sword the best he can. Smashing it with the puropse of damaging is not an intelligent strenght test, is pure idiocy. This is why such failures happen, not because of the blade.

Fahrenheit 451 The problem here is that the other guy isn’t measurable more talented than him, at least from this video. Success does not imply talent when you win off of better equipment. I would beat Usain Bolt at the 100 meter dash every time if I started fifty meters away from the finish line. The race is inherently stacked against him because he has to run twice my speed, and then some to beat me. That is not hard work, that’s just stupid.
@Memovox
@Memovox 4 жыл бұрын
@@wage9073 . If you show up to a stress test in 'Forged in Fire' knowingly you probably have a brittle blade - you are setting yourself up for failure. Equipment has nothing to do with it. He should have made a new blade while he had the time, but his laissez-faire approach brought him down. As another approach early on in life would have bought him all the equipment he could ever need.

Allaan Snackbar how long did it take them to make those swords? That is like telling two people to plow a field in a couple days, one with their hands and another with a tool. Then, you criticize the guy using his hands for losing because ancient people managed to do it. If you think experience matters more than equipment you have absolutely no clue how anything works. It doesn’t matter if Hand-Guy was a farmer his whole life. I would beat him if you gave me a tractor, even if I had no clue how to drive the thing. This guy is straight up using cinderblocks in his backyard to heat up his sword. China could make perfect swords if they wanted to, but that isn’t the goal is it?

You would think that in a show where one of the tests is to beat the ever loving **** out of a blade to try and see how strong the blade is...that the person testing said blade would you know...wear protection. These blades can be ridiculously sharp and its honestly a miracle the judge didn't suffer a "catastrophic failure" of the neck lol. It's honestly a surprise that the show has gone on for this long without the judge getting stabbed or sliced open from a flying blade that broke.

I know how everyone is saying there is a "wage disparity". End of the line though, the guy who got sent off cut a corner while the guy who won made double sure that he put forward a blade that was solid. To the point of making TWO blanks that he then tested for quality. The guy who walked cut a corner and compromised his blade structure by not setting himself up for success. (It would not have been difficult to make a small "dark room" to better see the heat levels of his blade during the heat treat. He could easily have taken that trailer in the background and flipped it to make a covered pit.) His blade broke where he KNEW there was a soft spot. Lets all be honest here, if his blade had been fully treated properly, he likely would have won 'cause we all know how the judges hate heavy and clunky weapons, and his opponent had a heavier and clunkier weapon. He didn't lose because of a plasma cutter (which NO I do not agree with using also) or money, he lost because he chose to leave a weak spot on his blade and hoped for the best. Also remember, Ryu WON while using a Satellite dish as a forge. It was all in work ethic, not tools.
