Just to correct Lapu-Lapu is not a philipino hero, but he is a Native hero. Remember 1500's philippine state was not even exist because Gov. Of the Republic of the Philippines was stableshed on 1900's . Philippines was derived from the spanish king Philip II the colonizer. The 1st Philippine Constitution was adopted on 1935 including the citizenships of being a Filipinos....means a TAG of being sleeves of the king of spain.

Your source is the Aginid, which has been debunked by modern historians. National Artist of the Philippines for Literature, Dr. Resil Mojares, has compiled folklore from natives of Opon (now Mactan) that state Lapulapu is a native of Opon, not Borneo. See Mojares, Resil. “Lapulapu in Folk Tradition.” Philippine Quarterly of Culture and Society 7, no. ½ (1979): 59-68.

There was no any record of lapu-Lapu before magellan arrived in Cebu. But this is the myth or folk's accounts, of Lapu-Lapu before Magellan's arrival. without any record of lapu-lapu's origin, so its safe to say, Lapu-Lapu is a Filipino.
