Wow! Never knew this. Thank you for new #Knowledge! This reminds me of extreme fundamentalist, of the religious kind

They rebelled against the exploitation that this technology brought, not the technology itself.

Exactly, this has to be the biggest misunderstanding I see when people talk about this!

False it was the tech. They feared the tech would cause large social problem. Which it has. Luddism hits every nail that has us hung up

it's impossible to depict the Luddites as technophobes or the machines as "new." The Luddites were fighting against automation and tyranny, not technology or progress.

And all this time I thought it was just my dad trying to program a VCR that hated technology... So there were others?

They did not hate technology. They didn't sit around ruminating about the pros and cons of new technology. What they were concerned about were the implications of new technology. To them this meant at best semi starvation and at worst starvation.

With no apology, I am a electronic Luddite. Why? Because my Tube receiver is from 1967, Amp & pre Amp 1990 and speakers from the mid 1980’s. None have ever needed a software upgrade and they all came with printed manuals you can read to tell you how they work. In contrast, there are no books to show you how computers work and they always need upgrades. I’m retiring in May and will all but totally eliminate computers from my life. I haven’t owned a TV in 8 years and see no reason to ever buy one again. Live symphonic music is much more fulfilling.

And yet you are watching KZbin on a PC (or laptop, or smartphone). So when you retire you will retire from KZbin as well?😅😉
@musicstewart9744 Жыл бұрын
@@arrow1414 I can handle KZbin and social media, treating the latter as if it were a glorified party phone line and the former because there are a lot of incredible classical music performances from decades ago on it.

You must have taken really good care of them that they lasted you that long. Though I'm actually pretty sure that there are books about how computers work, but since you don't mind using KZbin either, there are plenty of KZbin videos on that subject too. I actually used videos and articles online to figure out what parts I wanted for my PC and to build it. I'm not a fan of platforms like TikTok or Twitter, but overall I think the internet is an amazing technology.
