I’d like to buy one of those old snap on boxes Karl has, I’m guessing they aren’t for sale . Mark and Steve are fortunate to have driven and been associated with such a knowledgeable man , these type of innovators changed our sport and constantly made competitors step up their game weekly

Boy, would I like to sit down and chat with Karl. I'm 80 years old and we have a lot in common. "If a dog pisses on your wheel, you kick his ass". Trouble is, Karl, dogs are a lot smarter than some people.

Thanks for the video, he's a very interesting man and one Heckuva car owner and mechanic. I met his cousin in pigeon forge TN at one of the grand rod runs. If I'm not mistaken his name was Roger kinder. I was looking for some parts for a 40 for convertible. He said my cousin Karl is the only person that he knew of that might know where to find what I was looking for. He gave me Karls phone number. I called him and he talked to me like we were long time friends. A really super nice feller. I enjoyed talking with him a lot. A lot of knowledge in that man right there

I remember seeing Karl and Steve come to Tampa in February in 1981 with an old Chevy p/up and an open trailer Sammy was driving for Nance big enclosed trailer

Wow....I live here Oceano Ca. Where we have the drive on beach and sand dunes where the sand buggies run. I believe the dirt bikes he speaking of were a kart with a cage over operator in his down tube story. Neat to hear the back story on the Gambler car...Wow. We're 15 min North of Santa Maria Speedway where WoO came every year from '79 -'98 for two day shows (was 15 in '79 and made many of those shows). Also, Pismo Beach is a neighbor town where #18 Marks & Kepler sprinter was from that Doty drove when they were Coors light teammates. I recall the Kinsers and many of the racing teams at their shop when they came through. Some fond memories. We're off to a USAC/CRA show there this weekend 4/3/2021at SMS Really enjoy how I feel as if I'm right alongside you in these interviews. Now.....I'm of to Hewitt part 2. Thanks a ton HMM for the escape I get watching your content 😊 🏁🍻

@@HistoryMysteryMan I recall Dean, ol'bub, Oskie, Worth and many others. They came to Santa Maria four times a season back then. Only made one CRA at ASCOT yet it's like I was there yesterday in my memory. 35 years on and today at 57yr I've got a menacing foe I've been fighting 8-20-18 diagnosed with colan cancer. And so begun this heroine battle. This will be only my 5th show since that profound day in 2018. We were 20-30 sprint car only shows up and down the state of California for many many yrs. To say I'm excited to have an evening of dust, loud exhaust and most importantly, to see familiar faces and dear friends is an UNDERSTATEMENT !! LOL. Cannels like yours have been heartfelt with joy, tears and longing to be at the dirt track. Know HMM, your reach is deep and encouraging as I journey through. Peace and much joy to you my friend. By the Way I'm out in Oceano California. Google earth and you'll see the recreational sand dunes Karl mentioned for his inspiration for a down tube gambler chassis. 15 miles south is the 1/3 high banked gumbo clay oval Doug Fort built in 1964. He passed in 1999 I believe. Lucky for us he had a hand shake agreement with Ted Johnson. I do believe Hewitt scored a WoO A main at SMS. 🏁✌🍻 Thank you George Mann

@@HistoryMysteryMan I did race announcing too. Then I’d go interview the winner right after ....after doing all the talking...it’s hard to remember to let the person you interview do all the talking. Keep hunting down the race track stories. I’d ask you to come here and do. Historical St. Charles Speedway.. 1955- 1999. but it’s a subdivision now and it’s all filled in, and the colorful owner has long passed.
