Hey Cy, Love your videos! They are super informative but hold my interest at the same time, and you have my respect for not making clickbait titles/photos like so many cheezy youtube channels! One thing I would love to see made in your style of map 'turf war' that you have depicting a specific people and whoever is involved with them at the time, but an all encompassing meso/egypt timeline. For example when Sargon of Assyria took power, and the expansion into the first empire, but what else was happening in other places and what year/era were in when it happened. I know you put a ton of work into your videos, it really shows! Anyway just an idea I hope might interest you.

Hi, thanks so much for stopping by and your suggestions, really appreciate them! The attitude of Western archeological scholarship towards the Bible will be more accurately portrayed by its members, not whining pastors. Not ONCE have I ever encountered an archeologist or anthropologist who believes that the Bible's passages should be ignored wholesale. Rather, the predominant attitude is to take the Bible as just ONE source for historical events. This is in contrast to the system used by Fundamentalist Christian counterparts, who lazily accept whatever the Bible says as absolutely true with no consideration of its very human authorship. The only times I've ever heard of such opinions being given was by pastors or biblical archaelogists who believe the Bible to be a divine work. The Bible IS very useful to contextualize some historical events, but it is not an absolute authority by any means. Unfortunately, it used to be upheld as one.

לפי הדיווח של סרגון 27 אלף אנשים הוגלו מישראל. זה מספר קטן עבור עשרת השבטים שמסופר בספר מלכים ב' שצריך להיות מספר רב מאוד של אנשים.
@HistorywithCy4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, interesting point. Perhaps this could be due to a couple of things. Shalmaneser V may have deported more, but Sargon may have taken credit for the remaining - the two brothers did not get along and the reason why there are so few inscriptions of Shalmaneser V may be because Sargon erased them out of spite. The other reason is that Sargon is only mentioning Samaria in the quote. There may have been many other cities or town around the countryside whose people he didn't deport. If so, he probably would have mentioned places like Shechem or Jezreel. Just my thoughts... Thanks for stopping by, really appreciate it. More to come, stay safe!

The answer is the deported Israelis from the Northern Kingdom of Israel . They were separated then were resettled , nearby Assyrian castles on the eastern banks of the river Euphrates. Later they constituted the towns of the far western of Iraq. Another group were taken also nearby a castle at Tikreet others in Erbiel and Zakhoo. But the largest groupe were brought to the west bank of the river Tigres, nearby a castle opposite the ancient city of Nineveh. A century + later, those who were on the right side of Tigres, the west bank, founded the city of Mossel in the north of Iraq. But most of the very original inhabitants of Mosul, or Mossil, passed away due to waves of pandemics that inflicted Iraq many times during the ottoman era. In one of the waves more than three quarters of the city passed away due to the high density of population. Mosul was a very populated city since a thousand years ago, and it was the industrial city of the Abbasid state. The people of Mossel used to make textil, one kind known historically musline, that was first manufactured in Mossel.

@HistorywithCy4 жыл бұрын
No, it's just the normal politics of the time. The name of the game was conquer or be conquered. You see it even on a smaller scale with the conflicts between the Israel and Aram-Damascus, then Israel and Judah, Israel taking over Gilead, Judah and Israel against the Philistines... whoever had an upper hand tried to use it to their advantage... all states did it when they could. The only real alliances were those for a some mutual purpose...once that purpose was served, it would usually break up and often, friends would become foes. The Assyrians were definitely strict and uninvited in most places outside of Assyria, plus they levied heavy taxes, but if you were loyal to the Assyrian crown, then you actually made out ok. The lands that Assyria controlled for the most part were stable, which is really all that they wanted... they, like most people of Mesopotamia, were terrified of disorder and chaos. That's my take at 1:30 AM... time for me to sleep. Take care, stay safe, and hope all is well on your end!

@@HistorywithCy _The Assyrians were definitely strict and uninvited in most places outside of Assyria, plus they levied heavy taxes, but if you were loyal to the Assyrian crown, then you actually made out ok_ That was really the problem that plagued Assyria. Assyrian kings were harsh and heavy-handed, even with the tributary system which helped Assyria stay and become stronger. The Romans did many of the same things ancient Assyrians did but their tributary system wasn't as heavy-handed and incentivized Roman allies to stay with Rome. Whenever rebellions broke out, the main idea was to quell it as harshly as possibly. While the notion of deportation did help __fix__ the issue of rebellion, it didn't prevent rebellion and it's like the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure. Rebellions would break out because the Tributary system was too harsh and nobody would voluntarily give tribute to Assyria when it wasn't more beneficial to do so, which is what happens when Assyria's power weakened and its tributes saw that it was no longer able to rely on Assyria for defense and that Assyria was no longer powerful to threaten people back into tribute.

Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria: 'He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor build a siege mound against it. By the way that he came, By the same shall he return; And he shall not come into this city; says the LORD. For I will defend this city, to save it for my own sake and for my servent David's sake. Then the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one Hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when the people arose early in the morning, there were corpses---all dead. So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went away, returned home, and remained at Nineveh. Now it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch His god, that his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Then Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

There is a new theory that the bible history happened in Yemen not Palestine. The geography, list of kings and events are almost 100% identical and even cultural practices and concepts described in the bible still living in modern Yemen, in that context the kingdom Sheeva is Israel descending from Haber (Hebrew) and to the south Hemyar (Judea) descending from Houd and in their language they use the "Ya" as an indicatif, so Arabs are Yaarab and Yahoud is the Arabic name of jews. Kingdoms and lands with the names of Egypt (Misrayim) and Kanaan and Sinai all exist in the area with the same geopolitical complexity of the bible. PS from Hemyar perspective Houd and Haber are the same dude.

So the Assyrian kings called the small kingdom they conquered "Samaria", yet you call it "Israel" just to fit the biblical Zionist narrative. By the way, Sargon II resettled some Arabs in Samaria after his conquest.

Sargon says he deported Samarians (not Sumerians) from Samaria, which was located in ancient Israel. And why would he mention modern Israel, this video has nothing to do with it
