Reading the comments, the common theme is "why do I like this music so much". I think it's due to the simplicity of it. It was also written during a time when the concerns of the day weren't as grave as they are today.

The Great Depression and looming World War weren't grave concerns? It's idealized nostalgia by people who never actually lived in the period, or have much knowledge of it.

WHY DO WE ALL LOVE *THIS* KIND OF MUSIC??? a) Reincarnation b) Time-Travellers c) distinguished gusto as a Musician and Singer I would say: *passion to learn your instrument *strive for perfection *social engagement to harmonize THESE ARE ALL very old nearly forgotten virtues in an ellbow-world... and we know about history, too... it is the pulse of every artist's heart-beat who puts his personal devotion into every song we can hear until today and as monstrous this world may be there will always be some creatives who can sooth & safe our souls THANK YOU, BOB FOR SHARING YOUR TREASURES 💞 TO ME THIS IS THERAPY IN A MAD & CRAZY WORLD 🌍

I fully share Ann marie White's comment. I was born a generation early (I hail from 1956), and even though I feel western American rock music (think of Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles etc.) was superb in the mid 70s, I much prefer this type of music. I already loved it as a teenager and now in my late 50s I love it even more.

Music of the 1920's and early 1930's was gentle and lovely because there were clarinets and NO saxophones. After 1935, swing and big bands were harsher and less romantic. Love this music.
@thegoddessdiana9185
@thegoddessdiana9185 8 жыл бұрын
+Linda Tyler I disagree about the saxophones. The sax was one of the ubiquitous instruments of the 20's and early '30's and were often included in graphic depictions of the era because its association with jazz. In dance bands of the '20's and early '30's most bands had at least three reed players: a tenor and two alto saxes which played in tight harmony. These guys also doubled on clarinets and soprano saxes. There might have been a baritone sax player in the band if there were four reeds, or even a bass sax. Listen carefully to the music and you'll hear the saxophone harmonies.

I came here after watching a documentary of the great love between William "Billy" Haines and Jimmie Shields. It must have taken a lot of courage to walk away from a great career and friends due to the strength of your beliefs. Especially, a friend like Joan Crawford. It goes to show the strength of character men and women had back then. Something no-one seems to have nowadays!!! I was born far too late but at least I have found this great little channel. Thank you so very, very much from the bottom of my blessed heart.

You can probably still dance to live bands playing this sort of music because there are vintage bands, in the U.S. and in Europe, which specialize in this sort of music. Some of them are on KZbin. There are also "vintage festivals" and special "vintage nights" at some establishments. I was in my 20's back in the early 1970's, and during that decade there was a fascination with the "Inter-war" period. Art deco was being re-discovered. The styles of the 1920's, 1930's, and early 1940's influenced the fashions of this era, and there even were people searching through shops which sold old clothing items from the period (I was one of them). I'd gone abroad in '74 and found a deli in London which not only played the old music but had pictures of celebs and stills from some Busby Berkeley musicals on the walls. Even their menu used art deco lettering and a prohibition gangster theme for ambiance. There was a club in Paris which, unfortunately, we didn't visit called, Les Annees '20's with a Helen Kane-ish looking flapper's face alongside the art deco lettering. Many of the films which were out at the time, both American and foreign, were set during this period, and, of course some, especially those from Europe, touched upon the politics of the time. I saw quite a few of these movies. Indeed, some theatres ran festivals of Busby Berkeley, Jessie Matthews, Eleanor Powell, Fred and Ginger, Charlie Chaplin, Leni Riefenstahl, etc. movies. Musically, this was the time when the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, from the UK, put out their first lp, and people were discovering the music of the period and how great it was. Musical skits and routines using this music showed up on some variety shows back then, especially on Carol Burnett's Show.

This is drinking music, it is the music which people drank and danced to in the 1920s and 1930s in the speakeasies. Do you also find it easier to really get your mind and spirit into this music and into this era when you drink? Drinking does get people more relaxed and in the mood to dance in general. While this music is playing, it gets you into the mood for dancing to it and pretending it's the 1920s and 1930s, if you have a passion for this music and era. But, it's easier to do that when you're home and not out where you'll have modern distractions all around you, unless you are at some specially themed 1920s and 1930s bar or party.

I think the reason old guys like me, 77, like this material is that is has form, words one can understand and some pop. Younger kids can like this too as seen below because music with wit, pop, and meaning or just jive can out do the angst of today's sludge..

Sludge? You call EDM sludge?? EDM is the greatest thing to ever happen to music.

Yeah it all pretty much is. It's too machine processed. Auto-tune, digital drum beats, annoying sound effects and sampled loops. People trying to cash in on the latest catch phrases or whatever current event happens to be "in" at the time. This music has soul and it took talent to play and you got it all in one take.

Well, this is the era when the original Tom and Jerry cartoons were created. So it only makes sense that the creators would use the music of the time.

Listening to this music I sometimes wish I lived in a cabin somewhere in a lovely forest that has a nearby stream. Just walking around admiring nature and swaying my head and body to this wonderful music. Being a loner by nature I could fully enjoy this scenario alone. Thank you so much for so many videos with such entertaining music. 👍🎶🥰

I am 81 years old and born in the late 30s. I went to high school in the early 50s and then a small college. So I have been subjected to some very great music especially in high school for dancing. But it was only within the last 2 years, after retirement, that I realized how absolutely great the music of the 20s and 30s was, And in spite of hard times in both the 20s and 30s it was probably the greatest time to live in our country. Since the 1970s I can't relate to the music at all. But every night while on the computer and with DVDs in my car I go back to the 30s everynight. So if you see a car at a stop sign and the driver is tapping his fingers on the steering wheel it is probably me. And we all owe this to Pax41, his quality of music appreciation and his establishment of this web site. Imagine this, my great parents grew up in the 20s and started their married life in the 30s, WOW. Your music selections made my retirement Pax41, well done!!! Alan Hill Blue Bell, Pa.
