I was born in 1938, so pretty much missed the music of the 1930’s. Then as I grew up on a small farm without electricity, I began to listen to music on a battery operated tabletop zenith radio and enjoyed the music of the 1940’s. Finally when I was about nine years old we got electricity and my parents could stop saying “Turn off that radio! You are going to run down the battery!” Not only music, I listened to The Lone Ranger, Sky King, Let’s Pretend, and several other programs for children. Ah, those were the days !

The 1930s & 40s saw their HUGE share of War, Famine, Depression, Disease and Social Strife like every era. I LOVE how their music aspired to transport listeners to a surreal, romantic, fantasy sphere filled with love, class, whimsy and style! Even when they sung the Blues, it was soul stirring and soothing in its own way. Now, music is mostly crass, devoid of talent, culture, limited in scope and lacking GOOD VIBES. I will always seek out retro, old school, classic entertainment! NO modern versions, reinterpretations, reboots, or modern translations. It strips artistic creations of their Heart & Soul. Thank You for posting.

Makes me want to slow down, and ask "what's the rush?" It also feels like I'm in some movie and I'm about to ask someone if they want to dance. This is good music to fall asleep too.

Wonderful! Quite another epoch! The gliding fox-trots…Then the almost futile but desperate will and wish to think of other things than the recent Great War, the Hunger Protest Marchés, and the threatening miseries of the totalitarian regimes with their cruel simplistic intolerance. Two decades of « the little man », the gentle soul wishing to be left alone, if only to enjoy what little there might be left for him and for her beside the bawling snarling rule of dictators on the one hand, and the sad incompetence of our democracies. Yet, thanks to most valiant hearts of many of ‘the common man’ and the stout-hearted clairvoyance of unbeaten determination of certain great men to see through the coming Hell, ordinary unpretentious but resolute men and women would see victory over that Hell, yet to try again…to have ‘another go’ at winning the peace…

I love this set ! Great lyrics , in every one and great vocalists too - not to mention the orchestrations. Especially like tracks 4, 5 and 10, but this preference does not detract from the others. They are all so good. Thank you for sharing.

The song I ll never forget I love you remind me 2 tracks of the Beatles, when he sings I ll never forget I love you, the love you is the same as Paul McCartney on PS I love you. And the solo piano is very close to not a second time of Lennon. Wondering if they were listening this back in time
