U missed the entire point of his character. Hes a TERRIBLE father. He became so consumed by vengeance at the memory of his dead wife, and his wrongful conviction, that he essentially turned his daughter into a tool of destruction. A weapon. Like the cop, marcus, tells him earlier; “u owe that kid a childhood” And big daddy’s response of shouting “you know who owes her a childhood? Frank DaMico!” Is clearly indicative of the fact that he STILL does not think hes done anything wrong. Hes STILL so angry. Big daddy is not a good father. But he IS a good man. A good man who has had terrible things befall him, and who DOES have some power to stop it…but in doing so, he hurts his own child as much as he himself was hurt. Hes a complex character and my favorite in the entire film. He does care about hit girl. But not more than he cares about vengeance. He hates frank daMico more than he loves mindy. And thats sad.

I love this scene. This movie came out before my daughter was born. Now that she's 3 years old, after watching this scene, I realized how much agony and suffering Big Daddy was going through over the "loss" of his daughter. Remember, earlier in the movie, he witnessed Hit-Girl getting shot by the mob boss's son. Even after Big Daddy was getting burned alive, the pain was nothing compared to the loss of his child. But you could see the happiness in his eyes, even while being burned, after realizing his daughter was still alive. "Take cover, child" gave me chills.

I remember watching this movie without knowing anything about it. I saw no trailers and had no expectations. I had to pause the movie after this scene. Literally get up and walk around asking myself what I just saw. As silly as the movie is, the bond between father and daughter, the score and cinematherapy in this scene are among the top of the action scene list in my opinion. It is sad that the sequels could not capture the feeling of the original, they were fine, but pale in comparison to this masterpiece.

Kryptonite too early makes hitgirl a giant target plus having to focus on diversion tactics forces her to not be able to thin out the crowd as effectively. It was important to do kryptonite only near the end. The lull after firing tells that hitgirls mag is empty. And bigdaddy waits for hitgirl to reload properly before instructing to do robinsrevenge. All while being tortured. Yes I know its a movie but the timing of all the combat in this scene imo is just hard to beat.
