Red is the color of Yourself’s healthbar, as well as BF’s notes during the climax where it almost sounds like someone is singing along with him to Yourself The player’s first assumption will be to attribute Yourself’s red theming to him being another evil character to face like all the rest, but if you pay attention you can see it’s instead showing that he hasn’t moved on yet since after he finally accepts his loss every last hint of the color red is drained from him as well as the surrounding area. I think part of what makes Yourself stand out is that, unlike a lot of the other horror-based songs, he's not 'oooh, established beloved mascot character has turned evil and all-powerful, watch them do all this horrible stuff to their former friends, and now they've come to do it to BF and GF!!!'. He's ultimatly not malicious. He's a version of BF that has lost it all, found a way to cross over into our BF's timeline, and is using the chance essentially to just... vent all of his grief and sorrow onto who may be one of the only people to understand him. We see it in the song progression, too. Yourself comes out swinging, taking the lead, BF often on the 'backfoot', then towards the middle of the song, they're starting to play off each other. And finally, after the climactic vocals, all of the notes turn blue. The both of them are on the same page, harmonizing, until they're singing as one and the same at the very end. The horror aesthetic is beautifully subverted, because what 'turned' Yourself into what he is isn't some madness, or some otherworldly power. It was just grief, sadness, and the lack of a will to even take care of himself. Like most of anyone, he didn't go insane or turn evil for it. He was alone, depressed, and used the one chance he found to try to find some semblance of relief and closure.

The atmosphere for this is so wonderfully charged in all kinds of ways. Yourself captures a lot of BF's usual energy, but even beyond looks something's very clearly snapped in his mind. The smile is either forced to try and keep things light, or a default position for his face that betrays the maelstrom welling up in him. He's lost any kind of restraint he has in his posture and poses in an effort to capture your eye. All that being said, it feels like Yourself isn't outright trying to be hostile so much as he is desperately trying to change course, either by making sure BF never has to see his girl die like he did, or by taking over BF's life to do it himself. It gives off the feeling that all he wants to do is make the suffering and heartbreak worth SOMETHING, otherwise he chased a tainted dream that cost him everything, including his love, for literally nothing.

I know I’m late but I feel it’s prudent to say this, Yourself’s design is pretty emblematic of the ideas of joy and despair which has been picked apart in the comments during his solo animations but for me, it’s the little design details that sell it for me. Mainly, there are faces you can see in the cut holes made in his tall jeans, specifically, they appear to be the classic theatre masks, happy and sad depending on which direction you read from. From BFs perspective, which is from the top of the pants to bottom, the happy face is more prominent but from Yourself’s, looking down, the sad face would be more prominent. Just the little things to tie everything together 💖

Yourself rly is tragic; he's smiling the entire time until the line about making Herself proud of him. Literally tugging at his own heart and going so hard he shatters the glass behind him, but when she finally responds and sings with him, he drowns it out because that's just how far he had to go to reach her in the first place, pretty well affirmed by the purple that becomes more vivid when she starts singing (literally combination of bf and gfs blue and red) fades just into blue as that section comes to a stop.

This song is simply amazing. Unlike other mods, this one actually feels like a battle rather than just each side repeating after each other. Despite it being beeps and boops, you can feel the emotion from Yourself expressing his grief, as well as projecting his self criticisms onto Boyfriend. The story behind Yourself and Herself is genuinely sad and one that people can relate to (if you’ve had to go through such an unfortunate experience, my condolences). Through Yourself’s design, you can see how grief can destroy someone. He went from this innocent sprite because of his love for Girlfriend, but the minute he lost his anchor he turned into what Boyfriend canonically looks like, with a few uncanny features about him to display his grief and trauma for losing his Girlfriend. His voice sounds more like a distorted version of Boyfriend’s voice, rather than a different voice. You can see for a split second when the mirror cracks his fake smile fades, and his avatar at the bottom changes/loses its smile the more he ‘speaks’ about his loss. I also like that in the Lyrical part, you can hear Herself duet and backup Yourself’s vocals, indicating that she is still there. There’s just so much about this mod to speak on that it would become a mini essay. Congrats and thank you to the team that worked on this mod, it’s perhaps the best FnF song to date. So much effort went into this mod to the point even the small details that subtly changed throughout the duration of the song made this all come together. This is art.

4:05 is a part I don't see talked about a lot. Everyone focuses on the iconic vocals but I feel like they'd lack their punch if it weren't for this buildup. This **feels** like the climax of any other FNF song. The melody is memorable, bouncy, and the build-up at 4:20 to 4:27 into repeating that melody, the little chromatic walkdown they do there makes it a real rollercoaster for me. It's buildup on top of buildup on top of buildup, building tension and speed until That Part, where you're perfectly set up. Slower, longer notes, an even fuller instrumental that's hinted at all the way back in the first minute or so.

Just a quick thing: Notice how the red colors of both versions of Boyfriend disappear after the lyrical part, and, given the context of this song being that Girlfriend passed away in Yourself’s and ( I think ) the main Boyfriend’s world ( Yourself being the tall Boyfriend ) I feel like the red disappearing symbolizes both of the Boyfriends moving on, the main one realizing that there is still meaning in rap battles post Girlfriend, and Yourself feeling like he has finally made Girlfriend truly proud and, therefore, feels that he’s finally come to peace with Girlfriend’s death.

I think its actually a bit different. I think yourself represents giving into grief and using validation to try and escape that pain. Boyfriend represents confrontation of those feelings, choosing to stay strong, and the desire to move on. He's still affected as you can see with his expression being a bit more serious and his colors being faded, but at his core, he's still himself, and he's still trying.

Alternatively, it could also represent how much Yourself misses his girlfriend after her death. You know the adage that life loses all of its color? Since Girlfriend and Herself tend to be represented with the color Red, that color completely disappears during the lyric section. After Herself’s death, Yourself’s world became much less colorful…

the fact that this was basically the last BIG fnf mod update before the main update came out, is really beautiful. It really does feel like a perfect final send off, with how long it is, the characters, the music itself, and the fact that some of this song, if not all of it is dedicated to divide, is truly just.. beautiful. I like to think that this really is the true final song for fnf modding. after everything that BF has been through, it all traces back to him. Truly a wonderful sendoff, even though it wasnt supposed to be.

I am bored so I am going to list every single thing i have observed, no matter how obvious, throughout the entire song. starting from the beginning, we see that at 0:04, the reflection of bf has differences, including eye bags, untied shoes, no design on the shirt, more sagged down hair, the mouth is more of shape of a smirk rather than that of curiosity. at 0:06, we can see a red lining on yourself's microphone, already hinting at something special in this BF alter, and we can also see that the mic is being thrown at BF with the hand not touching the mirror (I thought the mic came out of yourself's hand at first). once Yourself does the countdown (since there is no gf to do it), we notice that yourself has marks on his chin and cheek, as well as his mouth not being drawn on, but more realistic instead, being fully attached to his face. once the song truly begins, we see that yourself's notes are not consistent in speed, showing that he may be forcing the song to be more upbeat than it should. We also see yourself taking from BF's health, as to keep him singing with yourself so yourself has someone to hear him finally. We can also see that over the course of the song, yourself's icons change, almost representing the 5 stages of grief. Yourself's animations are shown to be more exaggerated and shaky than BF's are as well. BF does extra poses occasionally, but stops doing them around 0:46, as if hes reading the room and realizes that Yourself is not just some faker. We can also see that at 1:51, all the notes are red, as Yourself would not be able to hit these notes himself, and maybe herself is singing these notes for him. once Yourself shrinks, he holds up his pinky when he sings, basically saying "I have five fingers and you don't lmao" When yourself goes silent, and BF sings alone, it seems that Bf may have said something that could've angered yourself, as the song gets more aggressive once Yourself goes back to normal size, and even lashes out at 3:21, which starts a back and forth almost. at 3:46, they sing in unison, having a great harmonic moment, though brief. at roughly 3:03, there is a callback to Unnamed Xterion Song, which was also by churgney gurgney. Once the Lyrics begin, after yourself says "proud" there are exactly 2 frames where hes seen to be near tears. in the closeup part, his hands are shaking, until at 5:09, where herself is shown, as well as yourself's damaged wings too. But anyways, he's stopped his shakiness, as well as not caring how close the mic is to his face anymore, which could be because of herself being gone from the mic. the second my way is more of a scream, showing how close yourself is to losing it. after the lyrics are over, the healthbar is gone, yourself seems to get extra notes in, and all the red is gone, and now the song is over. thanks for reading this if you did.

i'm so glad this mod isn't just edgy for the sake of being edgy; it's about grief, not being able to move on from a loved one passing away, and the depression and sometimes anger that comes from feeling that way. not only that, its extremely well drawn and the music is amazing. i love the little touches like the notes reflecting into the mirror when yourself sings, and the microphone flashing red and being able to see girlfriend surrounding yourself in the singing section. this might be the best mod i've seen yet, i would play it but i have a mac, so watching gameplay will do for now.

I'd go even further into what is being discussed in the comments. It isnt that he lacks innocence, *innocence was forcibly taken from him* . With the passing of Girlfriend, reality was forced into him. He had to deal with it, but he couldn't. Reality tore him apart from the inside out, leading him to no longer care about his appearance because Girlfriend was no longer there to look at him. However, his memory of Girlfriend and his longing for her was the only tether he had to that once innocent part of him. He can put on a very flawed, barely presentable image of what he used to be (evidenced by how he can take on a very ragged persona of his innocent self [small version]) that if anyone even payed a bit of attention, would realize that it was just a façade. The only reason why his body still hasn't fallen apart is because hes holding himself together, just barely, to keep that last piece of himself he gave Girlfriend. He longs to hear her tell him that shes so proud of how long hes continued. That every step he takes in what pretty much amounts to a husk of his former self is a triumph. He wants her, wherever she may be, to see that she was never wrong in loving him, someone who is capable to keep from sinking into the abyss for so long. He continues because his body *subconsciously* recognizes a sound that sounds like Girlfriend, but he, himself, cannot actually interpret that it is her. It's like being flashbanged; Your vision is blurred, you can barely make out someone talking to you but you can see their lips moving, so your brain *knows* they are saying something, you just cant actually hear them. Girlfriend lingers both due to his frantic love and relentless desire to hold onto the memories they shared so she inhabits the very object that hes poured his passions into. She hugs and tries to whisper to him whenever he raises his mic, at the peaks of his emotion, trying to tell him exactly what he needs to hear, but it is lost as very faint background vocals.
