As I said on the official upload of Subterfuge, 2017 X seems a lot less ill-willed than his more iconic counterparts. He's not a good guy, not by a longshot, but he's more disillusioned into his own beliefs that he is Sonic the savior in his own twisted way, that it feels like he doesn't get that what he's doing is utterly heinous. Kinda makes him more sympathetic in my eyes. And I think you captured that disillusion pretty well in the lyrics. Just wish we got to hear Tails sing his side, like in the original.

After listening to this video several times, i've come up with a theory thanks to some of the lil details i noticed on the lyrics, it hit me last night while i was inspecting each verse carefully. So here goes: My theory is that 2017X/Sonic actually has multiple personalities, at least 2 from what i saw on the lyrics. Now you might be asking why's that? Well i have a bit of evidence, maybe i'm reading too much into it but eh it was still fun to think about. - At the beginning of the song (and during the whole song tho not noticeable unless you listen carefully) you can hear that Sonic has a more calm voice, which contrasts with the voice he uses during the rest of it which is harsh and intimidating as well as more chaotic. Of course you could argue that he uses that voice to lure in his victims and earn their trust, but while i do agree, at the same time you can hear that during 1:47 the calm voice returns and talks about freeing what lays withing HIS hands (His being Sonic's) which is followed by "As WE warm". At first i thought he was referring to himself in third person as a way to make him sound more benevolent but the verse afterwards contradicts that, i'll explain it in the next point. - Thanks to Sonic mentioning WE instead of HE or I, it leads me to believe even more that he has a separate personality ala Gollum. There's no reason for him to say we when as far as we know, in this take of 2017X's story there is no other being helping him or living with him in his dimension. So of course he could only be referring to himself. This is later reinforced during the "Beast" section of the song as it finishes with him saying "Let US end your Subterfuge", once again using plural pronouns to describe himself, and this time there is no doubt that he meant himself. Those are my main evidence pieces, and while, like i said, i might be reading too much into it, i thought it was a fun idea. Obviously he might use plural pronouns because he has no gender and goes by they/them most of the time or there IS actually another being in his dimension and this might hint at it, but i'm not sure (especially of the last one). Considering the original Subterfuge also featured a more calm chromatic and a more fierce one and that the calm one appears for a bit during the middle of it this could give more strength to the theory but i wouldn't really say it's that big of a deal. We can only wait on what Raven has to say, as she wrote the lyrics and is in charge of the character so her word is official. But yeah i hope this was a fun read, i don't think this is fully true but it was fun to theorize on lil details of a very great song.

I think it might be a "Confronting Yourself" situation where, at first its Sonic in control with the calm voice, just a different appearance. and then whatever is "IT" controls Sonics body, which is the aggressive voice. Then whatever "IT" is "Shows" his true form, only inside of Sonic's body, so its altered abit.

Do you think that 2017 X (fraud form) & 2017 X (beast form) are actually in reality, 2 different beings OR Like 2017 X (beast) says “My Buddy is only me” basically them both somehow being the same person even tho we clearly see a big difference in appearance. Like how Jesus & god in reality are actually the same & that Jesus is the son of god but at the same time his god

@@Sprunkzy honestly, I analyzed the song as well but also with a friend of mine on discord (It’s my favorite & can’t stop listening to it so I decided to analyze it). And honestly what I believe overall is that sonic 2017 X (fraud form) & sonic 2017 X (beast form) is like THAT of the trinity (expect there’s only 2 & that they aren’t good at all & so on) 2017 X (fraud form) is the same person as 2017 X (beast form) but at the same time, Have different appearance & personality, So it’s basically similar to that of trinity. And honestly i find how this makes a lot of sense onto how it’s like that of the trinity & etc. Sonic 2017 X (fraud form) says in the song “being set upon a broken land, Freed by that what lays within his hands” his referring to himself definitely which by that his referring likely to his beast form, We could also see that his worshipping himself (Beast form) via saying “…In his world… he SAVES the weak In HIS world he molds the one who rather taste defeat” (Or it could be referring to his fraud form since for starter his fraud form is so obsessed with sonic to the point where he thinks his sonic & also the fact that’s sonic song but him referring to his beast form makes more sense) Honestly it seems like sonic 2017 X (fraud) was set “free” by himself (beast form) & that now his worshipping himself (beast form) & that what he thinks his doing is right & that his setting others free . In this situation, basically sonic 2017 X (fraud) is like “Jesus” & sonic 2017 X (beast form) is like “god”, his beast form most likely being a actual evil entity while his fraud form is just delusional as heck & thinks what his doing is right & that his setting others free since his beast form set HIM free. That’s just my theory tho
