Love the Alcaraz shot near the start. Especially because it emphasises that although he is creating a lot of spin the swing is still more straight than brushing over the ball. Its easy to over brush the ball and not attach forward through the ball enough.

That all depends on the intention of the shot, topspin vs flat etc
@rosshayden1416

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial true but even a flat shot has top spin to keep it in. And these guys flat shots still kick up a lot off the court. In this sense I feel a more flat shot should be seems as the fundamental forehand and then can be adapted for more of a moon ball or low shot for more curve over the net etc.

Great video. I am a junior and I have a pretty good back hand, but almost no forehand, I just don’t have the most confidence in it and I feel rushed and late almost every time I hit it, and I mostly will hit reverse forhands.

I still don’t understand the grips. It would be nice to get a more detailed description of how you’re actually holding the racket. They all literally look the same to me. Is it a difference in thumb placement? Distance from the bottom? Angle the racket is facing? I don’t understand

Is a video like this about what you should do to master a forehand after you have already mastered hitting with topspin from some more abbreviated swing such as an old school classic forehand? I ask because if I do what you describe I hit the middle of the ball, it goes six inches over the net, then lands a metre or more beyond the baseline. That must be because I'm not putting enough topspin on the ball, I presume. But I didn't see anything in your description of the forehand that showed how to do that, other than your comment about the face being to the floor in the preparation and the general thought that the semi-western grip promotes topspin.

hello, i have been trying to improve my forehand but i am really confused. I spotted that you are emphasizing on the power turning from the hips to generate power, however what confuses me is if I look at another coaches (eg : patrick mouratoglou) video : he is emphasizing on letting the hand go first so the shoulder and the hips naturally open after contact point ??? Please clarify this I tested both methods but still is hard to determine which is the "correct" technique. tysm

How is the other arm helping track the ball of it’s going across your body?
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial 2 ай бұрын
As the ball bounces on your side and starts to rise up, the non hitting hand will open up, and point towards the ball, as if you were going to catch it. That’s when it helps you track it properly

From the western grip, when unloading, u can simply hit a flat ball by not making a topspin shot. Its a lot easier to hit spin with western. But u still have to actually do so with the racket swing. So flattening out with the racket works just fine for a more attacking shot. I dont know, but K hits quite hard.
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Жыл бұрын
Two things there: 1. The western grip allows you to produce more topspin due to the angle of the strings, they’re more closed to the ground. So, yes you can still hit a flatter shot if you have mastered the racket angle and swing path, but for 90% of players using a western grip, that won’t be easy to do, and 2. NK does hit hard, but that doesn’t mean he hits flat. He can flatten out the ball, but he’s an elite player and he even changes grips when hitting those slap winners
