Hitachi DK32CJ-36MC 36GB (2001) - Hard Drive Sounds

The loud seeks and the worn bearings give this drive a cool sound I reckon!

Still works great with those bearings, not surprising! Glad that the Hitachi drives like this proved themselves to last and be durable, gives a good amount of confidence into picking one up if possible. Also hmmm do not remove the circuit board from the drive, curious when you get around to the post if that caution was void : ))

Love the sound of the bearings ! Seems lile a fast drive! Im curious to know does this have loading ramps for the heads ?

Sounds like the DK31BJ-36LC, but the bearings are worser. I'd imagine this drive would sound like the DK31BJ-36LC if the bearings weren't worn

I wonder if there’s a 40mm high 73gb version of this drive. (There is a 73gb 40mm version of this drive iirc)

Yeah, seems like the DK32CJ-72MC right? Always hard to find pictures to confirm though... Really wish Hitachi's documentation for drives like this was easier to find.

⁠@@bigbluebananabreaddid some research a while ago, and yeah they did make a 73gb 1.6” high drive, might go see if I can get one someday. (Wouldn’t know what to use it with lol)
