During the brief speaking tour to promote his memoir, Hitch-22, Christopher Hitchens spoke with Austin Dacey before a hometown crowd in Washington, DC at the Historic Sixth & I Synagogue on June 13, 2010. His sudden illness was announced shortly afterwards.
Christopher Hitchens is my favorite writer. Recording this video was a great opportunity to meet my hero, who didn't disappoint. His work meant a great deal to me, and losing him was very terrible. I kept this video to myself for ten years to hang onto some piece of him, but I'm now happy to share this recording with everyone.
The event was held on an unusually humid and hot day, and the inadequate air conditioning and stage lights added to the speaker's discomfort. Hitchens looks like he's baking but everyone in there was moderately uncomfortable. I think he held up well in the spotlight, with the private knowledge that he was facing a serious crisis. The last few minutes are actually my favorite moments, where he warmly greets his book's buyers with kind glances and smiles. Long Live Christopher Hitchens!

I won't be saying that. He'll be forgotten like all losers. Hitch who pretends to know the bible as he screws up on it over and over again including what faith means biblically. --"Faith is the surrender of the mind, it's the surrender of reason, it's the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other animals. It's our need to believe and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. ... Out of all the virtues, all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated”-- Christopher Hitchens Now, look at what biblical faith really means that Hitch the liar didn't even look at: Biblically, faith means trust. It's a trust by evidence seen. God asks that we prove things. To reason. To get knowledge. To study. God has nothing to hide. We develop trust from what is seen, and that which is not seen yet is trusted also because of the trust built up from what is seen. It's much like a human relationship. We don't trust much until a person has gained that trust from what is observed. The difference is though, God is not limited to human powers. He created us. Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. crossexamined.org/biblical-faith-vs-blind-faith/ www.truthortradition.com/articles/what-does-the-bible-say-about-faith www.revisedenglishversion.com/Appendix/16/Faith_is_Trust www.truthortradition.com/articles/faith-a-confident-expectation-of-gods-promises-coming-to-pass www.truthortradition.com/articles/hebrews-1-11-and-faith Hitchens always went into evasive word antics to avoid key questions like how we got the creation of the universe. Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space, and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it. We can't even get science without God. The laws of nature only can come from a Lawgiver, God. Life only comes from life. Law of biogenesis. It may work with your fellow losers but not with me. "Not a lot of folks have accepted that mythical character Jesus because it’s obviously farcical, capitalizing on emotional blackmail." Again, all you have is bowel gas as your proof. It's what you losers have. ----"According to Marcus Borg, the following facts are agreed upon by most New Testament scholars: Jesus was born sometime just before 4 B.C. He grew up in Nazareth, a small village in Galilee, as part of the peasant class. Jesus’ father was a carpenter and he became one, too, meaning that they had likely lost their agricultural land at some point. Jesus was raised Jewish and he remained deeply Jewish all of his life. His intention was not to create a new religion. Rather, he saw himself as doing something within Judaism. He left Nazareth as an adult, met the prophet John and was baptized by John. During his baptism, Jesus likely experienced some sort of divine vision. Shortly afterwards, Jesus began his public preaching with the message that the world could be transformed into a “Kingdom of God.” He became a noted healer, teacher and prophet. More healing stories are told about Jesus than about any other figure in the Jewish tradition. He was executed by Roman imperial authority. His followers experienced him after his death. It is clear that they had visions of Jesus as they had known him during his historical life."---- from the article (that communist youtube won't let me list the site) --Did Jesus Exist? All Scholars Agree He “Certainly” Existed

No, he was stubborn on always being a loser. God is the reason for us and all we have. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJqwoq2ElL6Gjrc The odds are NOT there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWLCfHiMlqisl6M kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4icmJStr79_qc0

The comment section on YT isn't the proper place to elaborate too extensively on the greatness of 'The Hitch' but those who actually have taken the time to listen to him and read his books knów what I'm talking about. For those who know him and his work it is unnecessary to say what many of you keep on mentioning in this section and what ought to be carved in granit for that matter is : Christopher Hitchens, we miss you terribly. This wonderful piece had me almost in tears towards the end; tinged as it must be by the knowledge of what was to come. What an incomparable loss to humanity and to humanism. His tutelage over the years; too late for me to truly appreciate him in his lifetime, introduced me to the free thinkers. Paine, Spinoza, Jefferson, Harris et al. Such a loss. But he himself would not allow anyone to wallow in said loss. Revel instead. Revel in the joy and beauty facilitated by his thoughts and his writings. If I pass on one thing only to my children, it shall be The Hitch. And I shall have done my work.

So you chose to be a loser too. God is the reason for us and all we have. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJqwoq2ElL6Gjrc The odds are NOT there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWLCfHiMlqisl6M kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4icmJStr79_qc0

Whether you agree or otherwise with anything he expresses, I cannot help but wonder whether such a well read, intelligent, engaging, eloquent, humorous and captivating public speaker of his calibre will ever be witnessed again. His legacy, influence, mastery of the the English language, and inspiration to free thinkers will continue on; a small crumb of solice for the 'early' loss of such a truly exceptional man, who would no doubt have had so much more to contribute to inquisitive minds. He is very sorely missed, but fondly remembered. Sincerely, thanks again 🙂

You really don't even have to agree with Hitchens to appreciate what a great intellect and sense of humor he had. He really believed that human beings should think for themselves and not just accept the indoctrination of the particular culture and society they happened to be born into. I will always watch these videos to remind myself of him. I wish I could have met him and had a conversation with him.

@@ozdorothyfan Zero evidence - really! Are you serious? What about the ground beneath your feet and the sky above your head, the air that you breathe. Did you create them? If Allah the Almighty were to restrict the water that falls from the sky what could YOU do about it? - Absolutely nothing. Yet you have the temerity to deny Him. The Big Bang and Darwinism or the theory of evolution are processes and neither possess creative power. What about the signs of God within you? The fact that two people can communicate intelligently with one another, what about the so called 'hard problem of consciousness? Answers on a postcard please. A little quote from the astronomer royal Martin Rees (arch atheist), "The challenge of fully elucidating how atoms assembled themselves - here on Earth, and perhaps other worlds - into living beings intricate enough to ponder their origins is more daunting than anything in cosmology. " Or in another quote , 'we still don't know how or where life got started.' In still another quote, 'But the difficulties of interpreting the every- day world stem from their complexity. Everything may be the outcome of processes at the subatomic level, but even if we know the relevant equations governing the microworld, we can't in practice, solve them for anything more complex than a single molecule.' All quotes from Just Six Numbers. So if you are relying on science to explain away your, my and the Universe's origins then you are going to be sadly disappointed. Now that we have slain that deity what do we have left? Since science which is a tentative description at best of what we observe - didn't create the Universe and I know that you and I did not then we are left with the Almighty. Which is where this discussion began and where it will end. Because my friend whether you acknowledge the ONE true Lord who gave you life or not you are rushing headlong towards your death and you will have to answer for what you believed, i.e. in the Lord as your Creator and Master, in His Oneness, in the Revelations which He sent, the messengers who conveyed those Revelations culminating in the Holy Quran and the final messenger Muhammad peace be upon him, or the converse. I invite you to open your mind and interrogate your presuppositions about faith and ponder upon the marvellous signs within you and without and as Rumi perhaps the greatest mystical poet who ever lived said, "if ye are a seeker, then whether ye be speedy or slow in movement then a finder ye shall be."
