I am a sixty year old guy (Scottish-American) that used to hitchhike in North Africa with my future wife - I used to do some of it too in France, Belgium and Holland - so back in the late seventies early eighties (less dangerous activity then and there). You need to bear in mind that with hitchhiking anywhere there can always be one very bad person out there and when things go wrong they can go very wrong! So small probability with very high cost. That being said if you want to greatly lower the probability - go to a fairly trafficked area such as a busy gas station or small town center and approach the drivers and ask for a ride - they get to size you up and you in some way can size them up. Also, make sure if they are not taking you all the way that they drop you off in a similar well trafficked area. I genuinely enjoy your videos - chiefly because they are excellent and you guys are definitely special, but also because it brings back memories of my youth spent living in Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, France and Italy. I hope some day to take my now grown up children back to these places and tell them some stories with a video camera recording the story and the place - maybe I could do it as a channel with the inspiration coming from you guys! All the best! Rod

Hi Lotus and George. You have a genuine and positive vibe and I enjoy your commitment to each other and to travel. Remember that you're entering the rainy season and hitchhiking through the high mountains with its many curves and precarious roads could make hitching more unpleasant and possibly dangerous. Political unrest is real in Chiapas and for safety reasons take the ADO bus - it's economic, safe and worth the cost in gold. Make sure to cross over to Guatemala and make it to Antigua (if open due to C19) - Stunning! Carpe Diem!

Hello Lotus & George! Congratulations on your move! I know you will enjoy Zipolite and I guess you will be stopping in Huatulco, which is an hour away from where you are on your way to Chiapas. Be careful hitchiking, it is not so safe to do it anymore. I used to do it but I wouldn't do it now days, so be very careful $20.00 pesos is not worth your safety, that comes first! I will be looking forward to your next video. Continue enjoying the adventure! Hugs to both!!

Thank you so much Alex, indeed safety first! We felt safe though on this short ride from Mazunte to Zipolite
@javierrm97523 жыл бұрын
seems like you are following the steps of the "Jumping Places" couple, make your own route, stay a good time in Bahias de Huatulco, also check San Agustin on the way to Santa Cruz (Huatulco), Copalita, Pluma Hidalgo... Huatulco has two options, the big luxury hotels at Tangolunda, and the cheap rooms in "La Crucecita", btw Tangolunda has a place to camp with all the services (potable water, wc, shower, electricity, parking space for the car)

Good to see you on the move again. I see how hot it is now, notice you drink bottle water? Mostly or always? I assume no bad water experiences so you must be doing what the locals suggest?
@LotusGeorge3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the water isn’t very drinkable here. So bottles water is the way. We don’t like to use single use plastics though, so we try to buy big recyclable bottles of 20liters and then fill up our bottles.

ALL Mexico beaches are federal (public), so it's ilegal if they ask you to pay for sleeping in there or for entering :) Just let them know that you know it's ilegal and probably they let you sleep without a problem.
