Which Promoted Team Will Stay Up This Season?

Күн бұрын

Last season, the three promoted teams from the Sky Bet Championship went straight back down from the Premier League, and once again this season, the newly-promoted teams are the three favourites to be relegated.
But is that a fair assessment, and are they really as doomed as some seem to think?
In this video, HITC Sevens takes a closer look at Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton, how they have prepared for life in the top flight, and their prospects of survival in the Premier League this season.

The Premier League has moved on in the 22 years Ipswich where last in the top flight. It's not so much about games against the top eight , it's also now about games at Brentford and Palace. I find it hilarious people questioning that Leicester’s squad was the best in the championship between them, S’Hampton and Leeds but it’s honestly not comparable. Leicester had a full international defense that started every game at the euros with vestergaard and faes. That’s mental in the championship not even to mention pereira who was played for Portugal.

I was at Newcastle at the weekend and it didn't feel like 'suicidal football' was really the problem (despite the mistake that led to the goal). We can't be having chances like that given to us, all over them, 78% of possession and not be making clear cut opportunities. I am not sure it is even as simple as 'we need a striker', because you need something for the striker to get onto. We constantly had the ball in supposedly 'dangerous' positions in the upper third of the pitch and barely made them sweat.

I'm worried about Leicester the most - lost their best player, manager, lacklustre window, points deduction and a couple of long term injuries. Ipswich and Southampton have kept their managers and gone for it a bit in the transfer window - albeit a lot of their signings are punts that could go either way.
@Billiamwoods

Ipswich's transfers especially seem a bit odd. Aside from a few decent Championship players, they've brought in Liam Delap who hardly lit the world alight on loan at Hull, Hutchinson who was already at the club and Jacob Greaves who was also at Hull - all 20-23. Feels like they're going for the same strategy as Luton where they'll have a punt at it, but mostly just prepare for the future (and relegation). Which is a bit depressing when you think about it. But, hey, maybe they'll prove me wrong. For me, Southampton are the only club who stand a chance (which is even more depressing).

As a saints fan I am very satisfied with our transfer window, apart from the signing of a premier league quality goalkeeper. I think,.given a few more seasons Bazunu can become his goalkeeper but he just has to improve his actual shot stopping, he's a goalkeeper in the ilk of Ederson, almost perfect distribution with either foot, good on the ball and has a decent save in him every now and then. But I think if we had a more dependable and reliable shot stopper last season we would have conceded a 1/3 less goals in order to best support our chances of survival Martin would have to pull a Nottingham forest and sign someone like Wojiech Szczesny, who's now out of contract, on a one year loan, just to give Gav some time to rest and recover properly from his injury and to have a top class keeper between the sticks, the biggest issue would be wages as if Sczcesny kept the same wages as he is at Juve he'd be on 3.4x the amount that our current highest earner, Aribo of all people, is on and 4x the amount that Adarma is on. But I think Martin has been clever and nouse, signing a mix of experience,quality and promise, signings like Taylor and Lallana are the much needed Prem experience in two of our weakest positions, was he's down well with Suguwara who not only is a top quality player in the moment, he can act as an insurance policy for when KWP, will get shipped off-next season if we get relegated. Wood,Edwards and Archer are all investment signings. Tbh I think we're in a similar position to Ipswich, I'm expecting Forest, Everton and Brentford to be slumming it down with us but it's the Prem and it's nearly impossible to predict anything.

what I'm most disappointed about is how Burnley basically ripped up the squad that got them promoted and signed many players they didn't need to sign and started them instead of their best players in the championship, like James Trafford, or about 8 wingers. They should've looked at Fulham and how they did it last time they got promoted, where they only signed a few players who clearly improved them. Instead it felt like they signed a bunch who just kept them at the level they were at. Not to mention the star players from the previous season would've been rightfully unhappy because they didn't get in the team at all. Otherwise they definitely should've stayed up, they had enough talent, and you can see how they played at the end of last season which at least wasn't half bad, but I think the low morale did it. Tactics didn't help, but they could've survived despite that.

And VAR on hand to put any celebrations of a goal on hold for anything up to 5 minutes. Also, end the parachute payment system which gives relegated clubs an unfair advantage over the rest of the championship clubs otherwise we could be in for years of Leicester/Ipswich/Soton replacing Sheff Utd/Burnley/Luton and vice versa 12 months later. As a neutral to english football I would say Man U, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Totenham, Liverpool, would goes down, relegate them to the sixth level of english football and salt their football fields. Jokes aside I think it will be a hard season for all the upcomers but there are some chances to staying up. In football enough if few things changing and a whole season is goes into the soup. Union Berlin is a nice german example, they promoted, stay in the league, managed later to reach respectable places then played in an international cup and the following season they almost went back to the second league. Just like how in Italy some teams seemed stable teams yet they produced an awful season and they went back to Serie B after long time spent in Serie A. I like Leicester and in football manager games I played with them time to time but I believe if they will not get a harsh point deduction then they can beat enough team to stay afloat. I am more interested in however what the Championship will look like because the money the relegated team got is certainly helpful. Luton however managed to be beaten by Burnley on the opening but I hope Luton can stay in a respeactable position on the top 5. I personally like small teams whom managing to get promotion top tier football with a logical and patient build up.

If all the mid table/bottom table sides parked the bus against us then we'd struggle since all our forward options right now want space in behind but I don't think any of the established sides are going to sit back against us, our system is harder to beat with a high press than Kompany's system because of closer distances between the fullbacks and midfielders, we beat that high pressing Leeds team with Summerville, Rutter and Archie Gray playing for them 3 times.

I’m an American with just basic knowledge of the British football system. So, the top 3 teams and the bottom 3 teams at the end of the EFL season are all kicked out of the league? Why as a fan would I care about my team being in the Premiere League?

Hi Alfie. I dunno if you'll ever see this comment, but I wanted to ask what you think of the idea that people outside of the UK and Europe should support their local clubs more as a way to even the playin field at the international stage. I've had this debate with people on Reddit who tend to gatekeep who can or can't be a fan and as much as I dislike the way they speak, I can't disagree with their sentiment. Most people where I'm from only support the most popular English clubs and I feel like all that support, time and money would be more productive and appreciated going into local clubs. For every Colin Benjamin here (I'm from Namibia btw) we've had about a 100 players who IMO would've been good enough to play international football because they had zero opportunities, and while it's fair to blame the corrupt local officials, most of the blame goes to the fans IMO. 90% of Namibians are football fans and each town has its own local football club, if even 10,000 people each put just $100 into their clubs we'd already be further ahead than most other African countries and we'd in fact attract talent from other AFrican countries, that's how much damage fans supporting European clubs actually does. But IDK, what do you think?
@Leeds71

The only way any stay up is if a team like Brentford, Fulham, Forest and Wolves have a very,very poor season which is possible. All are going down - then welcome back to the EFL and see the points deductions again - Leicester

Pro Leauge still better we start early we make te team play 32 games. Just to say nah Your not champion, lets split the competion in groups the 6 best teams can play a playoff where the points are halfed in way that is almost as complicated as the organization of or goverment. Then we have second group where the points are not halfed and winner of this group can play against the fifth team of the other group for a european leauge ticket. Then we have a third group wich is made to decide who gets relegated they play each other but don't get there points halfed. And then the third last team in this group can play a game against a team from second division to decide if they deserve to say. Love it
