This kind of reminds me of my club, Young Boys, but in a more extreme way. We had great European success this season with a UCL-qualification, where we then even beat Man Utd at home, but a slow start to the season amongst a bad injury crisis, where our keeper got injured too. After winning the league last season with a 30+ points gap we now only sit in 3rd with 8 points less than the leaders despite not playing that badly. More strange is the fact that both teams, Legia and Young Boys have the same main sponsor in Plus 500. Same as Atletico Madrid, who are also struggling in the league after their title win last season… Video idea: The Plus-500 conspiracy

Before being Legia manager, Michniewicz was Poland's u-21 team manager and he had a really good appearance on u-21 euro with Poland. He's arrival at Legia was described many times like this: "Mioduski finally appointed manager that is a real manager, not former Legia player or someone totally random". Despite his departure, many fans in Poland thinks that he wasn't the case of the problem. Everyone in Poland believes that Mioduski and his co-workers are responsible for majority of the catastrophy. Recently he had 2 interviews with one on the Legia's official website and one with Legia's fans. In both cases he absolutely compromised himself. For instance he said that Legia's sporting director is an introvert and he never answer any calls or he said that he loves managers that are very decisive and confident about their opinion as long as they agree with him. There's no stability for any manager.
@maciejrokita13673 жыл бұрын
True that! Even more so Michniewicz's appointment was considered quite savvy from a business viewpoint as he'd be in the know about talented youth players and have the proper authority among them. Every 19 year-old with an ounce of good sense would do anything to join a domestic title contender with a renowned youth coach, since they might get a fair shot at a career boost and Legia - at a few million quid.

Really happy to see a visual representation of an Estonian team in the video. As some background info, Bartosz Kapustka, who I assume was supposed to be one of Legia's key players, got injured while celebrating a goal against Estonian side Flora. That should be the best example of Legia's "luck" this season. He didn't do anything crazy, just jumped and landed on a straight leg, injuring his knee.
@filipz56053 жыл бұрын
His absence is definitely one of the factors of the crisis, especially since club's management totally failed to replace him. We don't have any other central midfielder able to create space by going forward with the ball, and they only signed up two CMs (Kharatin and Celhaka) in the last few days of the transfer window, both play statically and more defensively than offensively, and they hadn't show much yet, mostly warming the bench. Josue, who came before Kapustka's injury, was one of the best players in that terrible time, but he's also very static and completely different type of midfielder than Bartek. Absurdly, we went to UEL play-off 1st leg vs Slavia Prague with our no. 3 striker (Rafa Lopes) as a CM, and I don't think he had ever played in the midfield before. It's a miracle we qualified to the group stage despite.

As a Pole I would say that this video does a really good job at explaining Legia's crisis. The only things I would point out are small nitpicks but Emreli is acutally not Russian, he is from Azerbaijan, and I don't really think that Michniewicz was all that unliked by Legia's fans (although I can't really say for sure, cuz like most of the fans of the Polish league I hate Legia with the bottom of my heart, and local team I support (Jagiellonia Białystok) is one of Legia's biggest rivals, mainly because of their xenophobic tendecies to eastern Poles, and hatred of arogant people from capital here in eastern Poland) last season he was higly praised at often called one of the best Polish managers in recent years, but I have to agree that his style of football was mostly primitive and focused on crosses on their really big striker, Tomáš Pekhart. Overall, great video and I really hope that Legia will get relegated, everyone outside of Warsaw hates them.

I come from Warsaw and am a fan of Legia. I left the Polish capital in 2017 to study abroad. That season, Legia had players like Guilherme and Michał Kucharczyk, played in the Champions League group stage and Europa League Round of 32 (I watched the home leg against Ajax in the stadium) and won the Ekstraklasa on the final match day. I more or less disconnected from football once I left and what little football I watched was either international or La Liga (I live in Spain). I recently decided to follow Legia again because they barely posted on social media and most of their posts revolved around Mahir Emreli, their star player from Azerbaijan. I checked the league table and expected to see Legia within the top spots. Instead, I saw some clubs I remembered as being weaker and some clubs I had never heard of. I thought Legia would be in the middle. Nope. Legia was in the relegation zone! I felt like I had woken up from a bad dream. I thought "HITC Sevens has some new homework to do!" I am still a fan of Legia and Ł3. Thank you for this video!

How the World Cup every two years calendar could work without adding (a lot) more games UEFA Qualifiers/ EURO By the time the change might take place, the world cup will be a 48 team tournament and UEFA will have 16 slots. Currently UEFA has 55 nations. The last 14 in FIFA rankings could take part in a play-in knock out tie and 7 of them would join the rest of the European teams in 8 groups of 6 (total 48 teams). From each group the 1st and 2nd place teams would qualify for the world cup. The 1st place teams would qualify for the final-8 phase of the EURO. This final-8 type EURO could be held in a single country or even venue (like the 2020 UCL bubble), it can last for as low as a week and potential EURO winners will only play an extra of 3 matches . CONMEBOL Qualifiers/ Copa América In the 48-team world cup, Comnebol will have 6 direct slots and 1 for the inter-confederation play-offs. So Comnebol keeps its traditional 10-team group. The first 6 teams qualify for the world cup and the 7th for the playoffs. The difference is that each team would play against each other only once in a random venue making it a total of 9 qualifying matches every 2 years since with the current form there are 18 qualifying matches every 4 years. From there on, we could just award the 1st placed team the Copa América but I can’t imagine getting rid of the excitement of a knock-out stage. So the first 4 teams could take part in a final-4 type Copa América tournament (in the semi - finals it would be 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd ).

Concacaf Qualifiers/ Gold Cup Concacaf currently has 35 nations and in the 48-team world cup it will have 6 direct slots and 1 for the inter-confederation play-offs. The last 10 teams in FIFA rankings would play in a play-in knockout tie with 5 advancing, making it a total of 30 teams that would be divided in 6 groups of 5. The 1st placed teams from each group qualify for the world cup and the 2nd placed team that accumulated the most points qualifies for the inter-confederation play-offs. The 6 teams that qualified for the world cup also take place in the final phase of the Gold Cup. 2 of them go directly to the semi-finals (the ones with the most points in the groups) while the others play an extra round to join the final 4 (3rd vs 6th and 4th vs 5th). African Qualifiers/ AFCON CAF currently has 54 nations and in the 48-team world cup it will have 9 direct slots and 1 for the inter-confederation playoffs. The 8 last teams in FIFA rankings would play in a play-in knockout tie with 4 of them eliminated. So, the remaining 50 teams would be divided into 10 groups of 5. Teams would need to finish 1st in the group to get a chance of playing in the final-8 phase of the AFCON, qualifying for the world cup or for the inter-confederation play-offs. Out of the 1st placed teams, the 6 with the most points would qualify directly for the world cup and the final-8 AFCON, while the last 4 would take part in a mini play-off (7th vs 10th and 8th vs 9th). The winners of those matches would qualify for both the world cup and the AFCON final-8. The losers of these matches would play against each other for the 9th world cup ticket and the losing team would go to the inter-confederation play-offs Asian Qualifiers/ Asian Cup For the 46 teams of AFC, there will be 8 direct slots for the world cup and 1 for the inter-confederation play-offs. After a play-in knockout tie of the last 12 teams in FIFA rankings, 40 teams could form 8 groups of 5. The 1st placed teams would qualify both for the world cup and for the final-8 of the Asian cup. The top 2nd placed team in terms of points would join the inter-confederation play-offs. As for Oceania (OFC), they could keep the current format with the difference that the 1st team will automatically qualify for the world cup and the 2nd team for the inter-confederation play-offs.

Alfie, loved the way you managed to shoehorn a reference to Hull City into a video about Polish football. Maybe if you make another video about the next World Cup, a reference to William Wilberforce might be appropriate. (Given the slave-labour conditions to which construction workers are subjected in those parts.) Personally, I would like to follow your example by referencing the club that I support, Tottenham Hotspur, by saying that Hull City were clearly at their best in the 2016/17 season when four of their squad, including the captain, were former Spurs players. To wit: Michael Dawson, Tom Huddleston, Jake Livermore and Ryan Mason.

and the rest of Poland is celebrating, because: 1. league is fun to watch with top 5 teams really close to each other, that's not to say that legia ever was unreachable but now just more people feel like league title is within their club's reach, so they put extra effort into wining it 2. most people outside Warsaw and its suburb region absolutely despise legia, for various reasons entrenched in history and present time

I cannot agree with you on the Michniewicz part! He is a great tactician, he always had a personal approach to every single team we played against. We loved this guy, he was just a casulty of Mioduski's reckless management. In fact, he didn't even knew what kind of players the club was bringing in, untill they arrived and was never asked what kind of players he wants Legia to sign. That's the reason he was unable to install them into the team, they were not fit for his idea of how we should play. Its mostly his job that we did so well in Europa league this year. The problem is, he didn't had support from the owner and didn't had enough team depth to rotate the squad.

coming from a jagiellonia fan I'm surprised they are in relegation they are one of the best teams in Poland a with an ambitious squad with many stars they have truly fallen off, but I think they are focusing on the conference league more than the ekstraclassa itself, they are 100% in a high risk to high reward state.

Nice video, in general great conclusions, though I would not agree with the take that Czesław Michniewicz was not respected among fans. With him as a manager we won title in april clinching it 4 games before end of the season. Moreover we beat our biggest title rival Pogoń Szczecin 4-2 (leading 4-0 after 30 minutes) on 3rd april and beaing 10 points clear. He was the one who introduced 3-4-2-1 formation (as a 2nd coach in top flight) which made us so unstoppable in the 2nd round of the season that most of the teams decided to change their formation to 3-4-2-1 so it was easier for them to defend. The reason of those injuries and sticking to the small number of players was the fact that most of them joined in the end of the transfer window and wasn’t prepered phisically nor tactically. What is also worth adding he was not part of the transfer process. At first he was shown few players scouted by the club but he decided that they will not fit into his tactics, and simply are not good enough, but club decided to buy them anyway and promised them to be key players. It was in June, after that in August he wasn’t even informed about the shortlist and he found about transfers only because his son saw the transfer gossips on Twitter. It goes without saying those players did not fit his tactics, and he had to improv with 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 with No time for training because of 3 games per week. It is reported that some of the new players were happy after the lost against biggest rivals Lech Poznań at home, as he was about to get sacked. Obviously they did not produce after sacking so it shows that he was right about them. Also there was a group of players partying between the games so as you can see the whole thing is messier than it may seem at first. Other thing which is not entirely true is the statement that next coach played same tactics. He used same formation but he wanted us to play posession Based football, whereas Michniewicz prefered well organised rather defensive football with quick vertical counter attacks or crosses from the deep. Also what is worth adding Michniewicz wanted to give up the job few times even during the succesful periods as he felt unwanted and never even rented a flat in Warsaw as he stayed in Training facility 30km outside the Warsaw. Now the owner blames him for poor conditioning training during Summer camp but he forgets to remember that out of 25 players on the camp 11 of them were U21 and some of them weren’t even part of the first team as they were taken from the youth team so they could play 11v11 games on the training. 7 of 10 Summer signings joined after the camp, and 2 of our star players took part in Euro 2020. Given the circumstances mentioned before I think coach did great job in European Cups qulifiers. He also had No man power and he had to play center back as a right wing back or striker as a central midfielder thanks to injuries and yellow cards suspensions. In five years as the dust will settle he will get recognition he deserves I believe
