That Marchisio shout is so well deverved. Watching him was always a joy, absolute passion merchant if ever I've seen one. People in most cases (and rightfully so cuz they were a deadly trio) give credit to Pirlo and Vidal for a lot of Juve's success post 2011 but Marchisio was that ever present consistent glue that allowed them to do what they did in that 3 man midfield

Milito is either properly rated or by some overrated because of his two great seasons at Inter and his insane performance in that CL run. If you take away that 2009/2010 he had a decent career but nothing special. His peak lasted about 6 years and he only hit 20+ in 6 seasons. His peak was comparable to Vardy's between 2015-2022.

@@GreekHouseEffect he was a 1 goal per 2 games striker in his prime while also being his club's main penalty taker (about 20% of his goals were from penalties). people didn't even ever learn to pronounce his name properly. (the "dz" is pronounced the same as the one in Dzeko because of an accent over the z but people omit the accent/don't know what it means) Tends not to happen with the best players, people learn how to say their names. But yeah, I guess the reason he is underrated is that he was happy to be more of a component of an attack rather than the main man and people looked at the more flashy names.

I'm glad Dzeko got a shout, he's always been my go-to when talking about underrated strikers. Because he's a big muscular fella, people tend to think of him as an oafish target man. But he's actually more of an elite off-the-shoulder poacher, with superb technique and touch, and lovely varied finishing ability. If he only had natural pace, he could have been an all-time-great. @luishernandezblonde
@luishernandezblonde 10 ай бұрын
@@justhuy7960 It's just now. What you are stating is a rather recent phenomenon. Interestingly, when Australia joined in 2013, it was Thailand who proposed a ban on Australia participating in the senior AFF Cup because they were, at the time, so frightened to compete with a nation like this. At the time, Thailand was the best in Southeast Asia, so Australia joining caused huge resentments there. The other nations, notably Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, at the time were not that powerful, agreed to Thailand's proposal. Two years after joining the AFF though, Australia brought Southeast Asia first and only Asian Cup trophy; in addition, they still qualify for every World Cup since 2006. This has reinforced the symptom that plagued the ASEAN ever since and a key reason why Southeast Asian nations are unhappy with Australia's appearance. For all of their massive improvements however, it'll take decades before they can cure the fears. Then, you have to question, just how far can they go, especially when the 2026 World Cup slots seem still too out of reach due to stern competitors they are facing. However, in the future, Australia will be likely to debut at the AFF Cup, albeit they will be, like Japan and South Korea with EAFF or Saudi Arabia with Gulf Cup, sending B or C team rather than full-fledged strength squad. The B/C team Australia going to bring isn't going to satisfy, but they need to learn to accept it.

Liked for the Dzeko flowers. Such a natural goalscorer. Even after scoring 4 goals in one game against Spurs, there didn't seem to be much praise for him, he was never one of the players linked to every transfer window, which meant Roma got an absolute bargain. Even though City were generally bad at selling players back then, that one annoyed me the most. Though the way Nasri left ran it close but Nasri added to that himself. Unlike Dzeko who never caused a fuss, stayed professional even if managers sometimes did not give him the respect he deserved at City. City fans still sing his song every now and then even today, IMO because to many fanbases, the little details about how they were as a person add to their legacy. So to players, I'd say, if legacy at a particular club or period of your career is important, maybe don't kick up a fuss and act petulantly, or take shots at the manager or the club or the fans etc when things aren't going how you'd like.

Alfie, could you make a video about Kay Bernstein, the recently deceased president of Hertha Berlin? It could be a follow up to your video from a few years ago. Kay was elected president 18 months ago. He was a former ultra and co-founded Hertha's biggest ultra group. He took over when Hertha was probably one of the most hated clubs in Germany and changed a lot, focussing on youth development again and bringing a better feeling to the club. He faced many struggles, the club was relegated after 10 years in the Bundesliga, almost went bancrupt and was close to losing its pro-licence altogether, meaning Hertha would had been relegated to 4th or 5th tier football. He managed to reconnect the club with the fans and was involved massively in day-to-day affairs. He passed away one week ago, age 43. But he proved that a better football is possible, and fans are important in a time when it feels less and less like that.

@obonline874
@obonline874 10 ай бұрын
I think a defensive fullback is a great player as part of a defensive system in their team, their contribution goes unnoticed and it leads to the opposite full back being more attacking and therefore, more overanalysed and rated
@F-Tier_Physique
@F-Tier_Physique 10 ай бұрын
Because when a more defensive fullback does his job perfectly he makes the winger look shit, passes the ball off to a creative player and then stays mostly back. Usually FB interceptions are out wide in their own half, so they don't look as exceptional as when a midfielder wins the ball in midfield, it's also not as dangerous. Basically it's a role more based around concentration, restraint and being destructive. These aren't traits that are particularly appreciated by modern audiences. Most teams would rather have wingbacks that can't defend, but can dribble and whip crosses than a fullback who doesn't lose a single duel....
@maciejbala477

@@F-Tier_Physique yep, same as why we rate best attackers more than best defenders usually in general. If an attacker is good, he will get the credit if he has a good game, but defenses rarely get credit if they have a good game because it's often "oh the attackers are not in form today" etc. Of course many people will still see it but it's less common to appreciate defenders than attackers, because attacking is more important and more exciting

I think of Ebi Smolarek. He is so underrated when he was one of the first Polish modern footballer who really shone after the disappointing 1990s. He steered Poland to World Cup 2006 and especially the historic Euro 2008 debut for us. Yet because his career didn't make many impact in England (his loan to Bolton was a failure), nobody thought of him but he was really a gem in such an era.

Thank you so very much for mentioning Claudio Marchisio! There have always been only few to recognize his greatness! I remember buying myself a Marchisio jersey and NOBODY ever took me seriously for it, there have been few players working that much on the pitch without any true weaknesses in their game. Yes he wasn’t the genius that is Andrea Pirlo in creating passes but he worked twice as hard in order to mitigate Andrea‘s defensive weaknesses and thereby enabled him in the first place. He was clearly the No.2 and not just in Juve but also the italian national team. And still he was capable of attacking had good passing and at times a dangerous shot, truly a stellar player and a perfect object of learning for any modern central midfielder ❤️ The only one player I would disagree with on this list is Hulk. Yes when he came out of Porto he was madly talented but the years in Russia really slowed down his decelopment. He could have been great, better than Neymar I believe but he chose a different route and paid for it. When the World Cup 2014 came along and he was playing for Brazil you could see that he on his own did not pose a major challenge for most defenders playing in the major leagues. It is just a different level of competition and he was too complacent to fully utilize his talent.

I think Thomas Müller would be on my list. His goal and assist numbers have been impressive for a very long time, he has been integral to success at every level for Bayern and Germany and won basically every trophy on offer, and he's at the absolute cutting edge of the sport's metagame, essentially single-handedly inventing a whole new position and attacking philosophy in the raumdeuter. People generally seem to rate him fairly highly, but I think maybe the fact that his athleticism is unremarkable, his position is one of a kind, and his best attributes are mental and tactical mean that unless people know what to look for, they don't realise just *how* good he is. For me, he's one of the top ten active players in the world.

Day 9 of asking a "What Went Right for Stade Brestois?" Video This is currently, by far, the best season in club history, one which could result in their first ever qualification for Europe in over 70 years of existence. There's a fascinating story to tell, from going bankrupt and slowly climbing back, to various great names that played there such as Ribéry, Makélélé or José Luis Brown, to the story of the Brest president going up against the Colombian drug cartel. Plus, you can have a lot of Brest related puns. I'd say Griezmann gets that label of underrated because for a while, people forgot how good he was due to his time in Barcelona, but now he longer is so imo

I also think that Vicente Guaita never having been capped for Spain, when you look at his xGC stats, is ridiculous, especially now Spain is going through a purple patch with goalies, with only Raya and Sánchez breathing down Unai Simon’s neck. It’s criminal he’s never been capped. And of course, after losing his position at Palace to the overrated Sam Johnstone following a two-week injury, he was ultimately and ignominiously underrated by Roy as well.
