This feels like a therapy session with Rick convincing himself to use the hybrid lol. I think it's time for a few fine-tuning lessons. You've tinkered with your swing all season and changed things that made you a lot stronger with irons and wedges, and now need some fine-tuning with the top end of the bag using lessons. It's amazing how everyone goes through it. I went through a similar journey this season. Granted, it might have been due to watching your videos, and following your journey; I now have lost confidence on the top end of the bag and need some lessons with the season ending for us.

I would love to see a video of Rick having a lesson. Ive had lessons myself at different levels of my play. I would be curious to see what a lesson would look like for someone with the capablities Rick has. Correct me if I am wrong but hasnt Rick also commented that he struggles with his shots going left, which is present in this video. I would be interesting to see to process of working on this and how to work on something such as this. Im sure this would make not only an interesting video but also be very informative to many viewers.

Got a 4 hybrid rogue max I absolutely love . My go to club right now off the tee . Can hit it 250 in middle to fairway off tee and anywhere from 200 -230 off the ground . The slower the further . Learning this with my hybrid the more intentional I’m at slowing my pace the more I hit the absolute piss out of it

100%. I’ve only been playing for two years. Putting a hybrid in the bag helped me start to break 90 consistently. Mostly because of that choke down punch shot that gets me out of trouble but still gives me a chance at par or bogey.

I started carrying a 4, 5, 6 hybrid and my handicap went from 18 to 13. They are just so much easier to hit with from every lie than an iron.

Switched long irons to hybrids years ago, every pro on tour has at least one hybrid!! Simply put it back in your stance for a low shot, it's not that hard, and you've snap hooked your long irons since I've been watching you, it's a good move.
@ianmcallister853510 сағат бұрын
Even I your prime 2 iron days you reviewed the TM GAPR and out of the 3 (hi- mid- low) you surprised yourself with which one you preferred. Being a 2 iron guy you thought it would be low all the way. Yet preferred the mid as it was so versatile. And discounted the hi as you “didn’t” like hybrids. TM still make albeit updated this club as the Sim, Stealth and now P-DHYs are just minor variations except the P-DHY looks a hell of a lot better than its predecessors. I’d love to see you go DHY as it more forgiving than your P790 3/4 iron and you can keep them down more than a hybrid. I have a Frankenstein of GAPR 3 Mid @18deg and Sim DHY 4 @22 at the top of my bag and love them.

Ya man get on board…..I love my hybrids as a senior player I don’t even carry an iron below a 6 anymore just the 3,4,5 hybrids. Like you said sometimes I’ll top them a bit but at least not like I use to do with my long irons I tended to hit them thin or fat much to often…I’m so thankful for todays hybrids ..👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Great stuff, mate. I recently pulled my old steel-shafted Cleveland Golf Halo 2i and 3i hybrids from circa 2009 out of the rafters and stuffed them back in the bag. I took out my Taylormade 5 metal and Hybrid. I forgot how accurate I was with the Halos. Sometimes, what's old is new again.

Put a stealth 2 3 hybrid in the bag for the gap … and absolutely love it! So much that I got a 4 hybrid. The 3 hits rockets … low fairway finders. My 4 I feel is more versatile. I can hit it low or put it up in my stance and get quite a bit of extra height and can get it to land pretty soft into the green. Cheers Rick 🍻

I've got the cobra hybrid with the baffler rails and I really like it. I feel like I can chuck the kitchen sink at it and not hit a bad shot. I've also played some great shots out of trouble with it. It's great for nutting one out of the trees and getting it down there.

I’m doing the same. Dumped the 3 iron I used to hit and ordered the tour rescue 4 as I’m only looking for a club to go 220-240yards. My TM mini driver goes 250-265 Then I’m going to get fitted for a driver in February to hopefully cover 270- 300+ Finally getting the top of my bag sorted , I hope.

I’m struggling with the gapping at the top end of the bag as well. This has been a constant issue in my golf bag since I started playing with 4 wedges instead of 3. The current gapping club between 3W (15 deg) and 4I (24 deg) is 5W (19.5 deg), and that’s been the best option so far. It always seems like I wish I had one more slot. 😢
@tcofield19675 сағат бұрын
I have a Stealth 2H that has turned into my go to club both off the tee and on those long fairway shots. I still have a 3 wood in the bag but the 2H is only about 10 yards shorter and to be honest I use it at least three times more than that club. If I didn't love my 3 wood so much as a club I probably would retire it. But I can do more with the 2H and that stinger you like is something that even I (a very mediocre golfer) can do.
@gerhardprasent33588 сағат бұрын
My hybrid 22° is my favorite club, I use it from the tee for shorter distances, from fairway/rough and also "putting" from off the green, usually much closer than chipping. I asked myself for a long why you and others don't have one in the bag. 😃

I used to love playing long irons (1 & 2!), but now I’m 55, I have 17, 21 & 25 degree hybrids. I’m beginning to prefer the 25 to my 5 iron as just so much more consistent and extremely high flying for soft landing shots of about 190-200.

I started bagging a 3 hybrid 15 or so years ago and couldn't imagine playing without it anymore. Stealth 2 is what im on now and it's a great club but my all time favorite hybrid was the cobra baffler. Loved that club so much and had it stolen sadly
@edge21str8 сағат бұрын
I did the opposite. Went from a hybrid to a 3 iron. Feel much better with it. Confidence is higher and I feel like I'm striking it better. It's been a joy off the tee. I've yet to reach a green but the same can be said about my hybrid. It also feels much more like the rest of my irons. With my hybrid, I always felt like I had to manufacture a swing because when I tried just using the same swing I did with my irons, it didn't seem to give good results.
@gigatron200810 сағат бұрын
I recently ditched the 4i to 4Hyb half way through last season (played 59 rounds total). Its so much more forgiving and I tend to hit a lot of rough 2nd shots. Playing more difficult courses with slope ratings 131-140. Last 12 rounds I also removed my 5wood and replaced it with a 3Hyb. Same result. Way more consistent. Im sold on Hybrids and debating switching my 5i to a 5Hyb next spring!
@sharpjm857 сағат бұрын
I had D, 3W, 2hybrid, 4-PW for years. I could not get my muscle memory to remember the different swings I needed for all the different clubs. When I was hitting it well, the hybrid was amazing. But it required a swing unique to all other clubs in the bag. Eventually I also lost consistency with my 3W. So finally about 1 year ago I dropped 2H for a 5W and since that swing is so similar to a 3W swing I can finally consistently hit both 3W and 5W now. If I could've gotten my brain to keep all the shot types I would still prefer a hybrid to fill the 3W to long iron gap, but for me it will be 5W for the foreseeable future.
@stephenchrishanson11 сағат бұрын
When you're striking it well any club is magical, but on those days when nothing seems to be working, a hybrid/wood will not punish you as much. Most players need far more hybrids/woods in their bags. Look at Fred Couples current bag of clubs... his longest iron is a 7. And Fred is still pretty strong, he hits driver 285... most average golfers can't hit that far (or accurate).... so why are they out there trying to smash a 3/4/5/6 iron. Make things easier for yourself, get more hybrids/woods.
@robertbarnes122611 сағат бұрын
Very amusing video Ric, so true to life. I did the same last year and took my 2 iron out the bag and replaced it with a 3 hybrid. I also put a Stealth DHY in place of my 4 iron. Have you thought of trying a DHY. I’m a member of 2 golf clubs ones over 7000 yds but quite generous on fairways the other is only 5700 from the white tees but narrow. I swear by my DHY on that course as it’s metronomic straight.

I took my 3wood (235-240) out of the bag and out a 17° hybrid bumped it down to 16° (225) yeah I lost 15 yards of distance but I feel way more comfortable on top of it and I can hit it off the deck 9/10 instead of 6/10 with my 3W. You might not like the look of it but if it helps you stay consistent with your game why not!

Thanks for making such honest and relatable content Rick. I really struggle with confidence on the course. When my mind is right, I play to my potential, when it's not I'm god awful. I completely relate to getting clubs that make you feel confident (having just replaced my entire bag for the first time). Hey Rick, I was the same way I now have a 4 hybrid and a 4 rescue and they both are amazing for me. I use my 4 hybrid for off the tee and fairway and 4 rescue for the rough and if I need to hit a higher shot. My 4 rescue is really cool since it hangs in the air for 8 seconds and travels 220 yards.

What's the difference between a rescue and a hybrid?
@CMGOLF409 сағат бұрын
@MrImpossible86 the difference between my two clubs is the hybrid isn't as lofted and has a smaller head, and my rescue has a bigger more forgiving face with more loft. It's about a 4 or 5 degree loft difference.

Seems like your miss “leaky left hook” isnt anywhere near as prominent with the hybrid. I think it will make a noticeable difference, and can mitigate situations where those go too far left and it ends up a little chip to the green instead.

The proximity w the hybrid is far better than the 3 iron. Which from that from is what really matters. This is why I started using 5 woods and 7 woods. you would be crazy bases on these shots not to hit the hybrid... the land angle is so much better, and the dispersion is 15 yards better - both length and side. I find the 7 wood is even more versitle than even the hybrid. When Tour players are swapping to 7 woods and 9 woods (in some cases), makes you wonder if they are in fact a better option for everyone else. COnsidering you play in the UK mostly, that would be the only reason I see you not considering a fairway wood over a hybrid.
