The restoration of this video is simply superb. I was staying in München (Munich) for quite some time and had visited a war memorial event where they showcased all the photographs of the debris. Now to see that in motion gives chill in the spine and shows how horrific those days really were ☹️

Someone wrote this in another video but when you see history like this in *color* it really puts things into perspective. When you normally watch things like this in black and white it feels old and it happened so long ago, then you see the same thing in color and it really hits you. Real people, actual events that took place not that long ago. We're still humans. The most sad part is this is going to happen again and again as long mankind is around.

Not at all, it's entirely typical of the sort of post-war intellectual arrogance that held that the whole of the problem with the Third Reich lay exclusively with the German people alone, and which tried to brainwash the children and grandchildren of the Reich generation with national war guilt for the sake of crimes which they could never have had any part in. It didn't work of course, they saw right through it.

To know that my Opa (grandpa) was there as a compulsory young Hitlerjugen (Hitler Youth), and did his duty from 39-45 in the Luftwaffe (air force) - survived horrors and was tortured by the British as a POW - and survived to move to North America under Operation Paperclip to raise a family and swear against war and militarism as a devoted pacifist for the end of his days is astounding. I spent my teens and early twenties in universities studying art, playing sports, and having fun with friends. He had to fight this horrible war. We should never take peace for granted. EDIT: My grandfather passed away in his sleep in 2007 at 86 years old survived by 5 children and 18 grandchildren. He was forced to work for the Cold War as a condition of his family having a better life. I have been trying to write a book on my family for nearly two decades. The UK & German governments refuse me access to classified information until 2045. The fact that we still do not have access to this period when everyone is dead - my Opa volunteered in '39 at 17 years old - is beyond absurd.

Ich meine nichts gegen eine schöne Parade, aber so exzessiv wie dieser Fahnenkult im Alltag damals ausgelebt wurde wirkt es schon wieder lächerlich. Let me tell you something, pal. Polish women? They're hotter than a suppressed combat pistol in a high-stakes deal. I mean, these ladies have got the kind of beauty that can make Los Angeles look like a backwater town. It's like they've got this unique blend of elegance and toughness, like they've been through more than a few street races and came out on top. Their eyes, man, they can pierce through your soul like a sniper's bullet, and their smiles? Well, they can disarm you quicker than a pro hacker cracking a vault. It's like they've got that 'je ne sais quoi' mixed with a 'take no BS' attitude that's just intoxicating. You won't find a more captivating combination anywhere else, I promise you. So, if you ever find yourself in Warsaw or Krakow, keep your wits about you because those Polish women are gonna make your heart race faster than a high-speed chase through hollywood, and you won't stand a chance.

8:34 Als Deutscher Bürger, der oft an der Feldherrnhalle vorbeikommt, lösen diese auf die Wand gemalten Worte eine tiefe Trauer in mir aus. Eine historische Aufnahme. As a German citizen, who often passes by the Field Marshalls‘ Hall (which is depicted here), these words painted on the wall trigger a deep grief in me. They spell out „KZ Dachau - Velden - Buchenwald I am ashamed of being a German.“ A historical recording.

He was also the SS official responsible for the Aktion T4 euthanasia program that killed more than 250,000 disabled adults and children in Nazi Germany, as well as co-initiator of Aktion 14f13, also called Sonderbehandlung ('special treatment'), that killed 15,000-20,000 concentration camp prisoners. The prospect of war is just as destructive in leveling down entire beautiful cities to ruin. My birthplace, Manila had also suffered the same fate in 1945 during the last months of the war against Japan and its effects were drastic in even altering the entire city's landscape making it unrecognizable compared to now. War is really a surreal thought. It only brings hell regardless of its goals.

@@marcob4630 Look at the popularity of National Socialism in Protestant regions compared to Catholic ones. Munich may have been the "Hauptstadt der Bewegung" as chosen by AH, but less people voted for him there than, for example, in North Germany. Also, as this film states, the reasons for National Socialist success should be addressed before judging. Dachau was a concentration camp, yes, but not a death camp. Those were placed (with good reason) in Poland.

I wonder if there ever shall be an unbiased analysis of why Britain and France declared what Pat Buchanan calls an unnecessary war. Were there diplomatic alternatives at that time. Should Germany have been given a 15 day ultimatum to cease, desist and withdraw etc. The hurry to go to war is rendered even more glaring by the lack of proper understanding and preparedness, of France and Britain, of the war that was to come. The French campaign really didn't entail even a weeks worth of fighting.

this footage for a historian like myself is great. So much can be seen in the looks, machinations and the spectacle of Nazi Germany. The best history or petite histoire is the visions of the people and leaders that usually ends up lots or on the UFA cutting room floor a la Goebbels control of Nazi media.
