Though carpathian mountains lacks a lot compared to other maps, i do think from just the story perspective it was phenomenal. And to me it always looked like thats all it was meant to be a map to finish of the story with a pure boss level which imo is a lot better fit then a map where u have all the options like in most hitman levels which would make it feel like any other map. So yh id personally say it succeeded in the thing it was meant for

Not sure how a full tier list would look for me, but know Sapienza, Miami and Whittleton Creek would be my top 3. Might have some others in S too. Hitman 2 is the best imo, struggle to pick between 1 and 3. Edit: Rating along. S: Sapienza. Miami. Whittleton Creek. Haven Island. A: Paris. Hokkaido. Santa Fortuna. Dartmoor. Mendoza. B: Bangkok. Isle of Sgail. New York. Dubai. Berlin. Chonqqing. Ambrose Island. C: ICA Yacht. Marrakesh. Hawkes Bay. D: ICA Facility. Colorado. Mumbai. Carpathian Mountains. Hokkaido I hated when I played H1, but in the years after I have come to love it. Hokkaido and Mendoza is close to S for me. Almost wanted to split B tier into B+ for New York, Dubai and Berlin, and B- for Bangkok, IoS, Chonqqing and Ambrose Island.

S+ - Paris, Sapienza, Whittleton Creek, Hokkaido S - Berlin, Mendoza, Miami, New York A - Dubai, Dartmoor, Mumbai, Haven, Hawke's Bay B - Santa Fortuna, Marrakesh, The Final Test C - Ambrose, Isle of Sgail, Carpathian Mountains, Colorado, Freeform Training E - Chongqing, Bangkok I added two S tier categories and only one outright failing grade since i feel the quality of the maps is pretty high for the most part that there are only two outright bad maps: Chongqing and Bangkok. What I realized I disliked about these maps is they felt uniquely video game-y, in other maps even the ones I dont like all that much they at least felt like they were designed around feeling like an authentic place from an architectural standpoint. Whereas with Bangkok and Chongqing I feel in real life those maps would have been better designed in order to make it easier for people there to get around. The restrictions are there for the challenge of a video game level The C tier is for maps that I dont think are bad but also dont flow right. Ambrose and Sgail feel a bit too disparate , like they are multiple small areas stiched together to make an overly big area. Carpathian is kinda fun, but there's only three ways to play it: shoot everything, use disguises or do a perfect SASO route. Colorado lacks verticality but honestly isnt all that bad, it's just not the kind of map I would want to play in a Hitman game. Freeform is the closest to an actual bad map of the bunch, but it is a tutorial you're only meant to play once or twice. It's just that recently adding contracts mode to it made me realize how bland and lacking in potential it was B tier are for maps that couldve been great but have too many elements working against itself. SF had great ideas but it only really executed the village and mansion area to perfection. Them trying to fit in caves, a ruined temple, a jungle and a cocoa field meant all of those areas come off half baked. Marrakesh I love the atmosphere and like the targets but the fact you walk from one end of the map to another in every playthru is kinda shit. I also think that in Freelancer you realize while there's a lot of ways in there's a lot of redundancy. The three to four ways into Zaydan's compound all have the same structure and amount of guards so really it feels like just one way in. Final Test is a pretty okay tutorial level, works good in contracts and feels a bit more complicated as a main mission than Freeform A tier I cant really theme around anything but with Dubai and Dartmoor I like their design and atmosphere, specifically both use verticality well, but I think they could've been larger and more ambitious. The Dartmoor house can feel a bit overly symmetrical whereas a design that is more vertical and a bit bigger couldve felt less corridory and the secret finding in the map couldve felt more rewarding because of that. Dubai I really like but while I'm not sure if just making it bigger would have improved it I do think if they added more areas to climb around I think I would've ranked it near the top. Because what I really enjoy about the map is that you can use climbing to take shortcuts upwards and past security zones. It feels really good and sneaky to climb into the camera room and disable everything near the start of the level. Both are great in Freelancer, I actually like the non-house elements in Dartmoor more than I thought I would have. They're flat, sure, but sneaking around them or even sniping targets roaming in them feels good Mumbai I adore from an atmosphere standpoint, and I love the Maelstrom as a target both in gameplay and his personality. However I dont think the other two areas are interesting. Feels like them being so big mean they couldnt elaborate on their ideas. Theyre shooting a movie in a construction site, but there's only one set. The mission could've really used a couple more sets or even a mission story involving on-location shooting inside the city. The Kashmirian storyline is one of the best moments of the trilogy and I feel like it's a shame you didnt discover it. Haven, on the other hand, is another map I like the look of and I like the gimmick of using water as a shortcut, but I just think they made the map a bit too big where you're doing a lot of walking from area to area. Hawke's Bay is pretty good but I wish they made another mission on there, because the walking and waiting in that mission brings it down even tho I really like that house and the atmosphere S tier I split into two because they're all fantastic levels, incredibly strong, but I prefer some over others but not enough to bump the other ones down to an A. Berlin for a while was my favorite level in the franchise, now while I enjoy Hitman 3's levels more than I did at launch Berlin has now gone down a bit. The atmosphere is great, the shortcuts you can take are all well designed, the choice between playing it as a biker warehouse mission or a club mission is genius, the main mission is excellent and it's great in Freelancer. The only thing I dont really like about it is because the setting is so obviously repurposed each area just feels the same in that club. It's just a big gray box with lights around it, I feel a real club setting would be more varied. I also feel another floor with VIP NPCs or with security having a private party would've been something that would make sense for a club setting. I feel like that's something a club like this would have, a private bar or room to take drugs in where celebrities would congregate in. Theyre doing a celebrity ET who's a DJ, which is what made me think of this Mendoza and Miami are great, only problem I have with Mendoza is getting around feels a tad inconvenient. If I want to bypass that frisk are to get to the villa I need to go inside an area behind a bar to go into the basement to then go outside thru a sidedoor. Miami I love but it's another thing of when you play it in Freelancer you realize that the main mission is clever because it lets you play it as a one target mission. In Freelancer you end up walking a lot. I enjoy both targets too tho, so I end up walking a lot anyway in the main mission. New York would be higher if it were a little bigger, love the bank setting but a little outside area like planned or even some sort of indoor cafe/shop type area inside the bank (which is moreso something train stations do than banks) would have added a bit more to it as a Hitman location. A big part of Hitman is fucking around, being a waiter is a big part of that and this is one of the few maps with no waiter disguise Paris and Sapienza are self explanatory. Whittleton Creek is great because of not only its main targets but its design of the houses. Theyre all the same at first glance but each house has a little gimmick that makes it work, and I love avoiding guards in the small setting of the Nolan and Janus houses. I also felt the secrets were interesting and varied, I felt a lot more like I was discovering something than in Dartmoor because in that level the secrets were sort of in every room and were just a switch you press. In here you had to solve sort of genuine puzzles to unlock stuff like a painting door. Hokkaido is also great, I feel like it's a level that feels bigger and smaller than it is and that's something that no other map ever nailed. It never feels like it's too much into one extreme, plus the gimmick of the clothes keys actually works for me. I enjoy Soders being more of an in-depth objective. It means you wont find as much to kill him with but it also means you can treat it more as a one target mission, plus with Freelancer that gives you proper multi-target missions Overall I would probably rank the trilogy 2>1>3, or maybe 2>3>1, because H2 is undoubtably my favorite by a lot in terms of what levels consistently entertained me. However 1 has the levels that completely dominate the upper tiers, but it also has levels that dominate the lower half too. H3 feels like a middle ground, it doesnt have levels that dominate either tier because it experiments more and it sands away a lot of the rough edges the previous two had. It has a lot of QoL stuff but its levels overall feel like a step backwards in terms of ambition even if theyre a step forward in design. However unlike a lot of other threequels, Sly 3 and Saints Row 3 come to mind, it actually does have great level design to back up this decision to have smaller levels. So theyre all pretty equal, especially since you can play all three in one, there are kinds of levels that each third does better than the other and because you have a big suite of levels at your fingertips you can pick whatever youre in the mood for at any time. It's like how Rayman Legends is very different from Origins, but they put the Origins levels in Legends so you can play those when youre not in the mood for how Legends' levels play

@@TheBarryladyea ive played the trilogy a lot - maybe 2000 hours - so i have lots of opinions on it. My opinions are barely set in stone so sometimes if i get a good freelancer on ambrose and a bad freelancer on dubai my opinions can flip. I think tho thats a testament to the fact that really most hitman levels have the potential to be a favorite because for the most part they are all well designed. Theres only like four at most that stay at a consistent quality when you play them, the extreme highs and the extreme lows, all the others you have potential to be 10/10 experiences

I agree, especially for chongqing, something about is so mundane and boring. I literally could not be bothered to complete the challenges on the map, left it for ages. Can't stand the underground facility either.
