The 2013 250f models are producing about 7 horsepower under a 250r. This is due to titanium valves and other upgrades. It used to be where a 250r could keep up with a 450, however this is no longer true at all. The 4 stroke technology is leaving 2 strokes in the dust.

I can still hang with 250fs on my 150sx... 2 strokes are still competitive with the right rider on them.

@MPHerps ya they do. But I don't think it would out run a 450. I mean MAYBE it would have it out of the start. But after a couple hundred yards the pure cc's of the 450 would get to the 250 2 stroke.

What i mean is they haven't made an all new engine just little updates... While kawasaki,honda,ktm and others have gotten all new engines every 3-4 years. That's why the yz250f lacks power. YZ250F 37.13 hp TC250 37.86 hp RMZ250 38.01 hp CRF250R 38.44 hp KX250F 41.15 hp 250SXF 42.89 hp. Those are 2013 numbers, In 2010-2011 the yz was barely making 35hp. In 2012 yamaha only made changes to the carburetor, air-filter, piston.

@GoMoTo462 yea at an ameture leavel a bike advantage helps for sure. read my coment again. i bet yamaha was paying him to say that. so hes trying to sell 450s. think about bussinuss. take a bussinuss class then you sell what im saying. a 250 2t is 30 lbs lighter than new 450s and 15lbs lighter than the older cauburated ones. before you comment saying F.I. didnt add 15 lbs look into it. 2012 yz250 wieghs 210 ready to ride give or take a few. crf 450 the lightest 450 is 240 ready to ride.

@shift4life125 they are not faster at all... i came from a ktm150 to a kx250f and it blows 125/150s away on straights... just because you saw a yz125 keep up with a bike that hasn't been updated to the engine since 2004 doesn't mean a 125 can keep up with any 250F or R.

@GoMoTo462 compair james to the other pros and youll see what im saying. no shit hes better than me. and the pros are on 450s cuz thats where the r&d is. but look back 7 or 8 years. when they were still developing 2 strokes and 4 stokes. the 2 strokes were better. look at the motor desighn it is better. not to mention they arnt allowed to race 2 strokes at the pro leavel for lots of reasons. as of 2008 2009. your right 4t vs 2t stock for stock the 4t is better but not all the time
