Alphavilles Forever young only hitting 98 in the UK is a scandal. It's my favourite song of all time. So beautiful and still sounds amazing 40 years later

In semi related news, in 2003 Christine Milton released her #1 song SUPERSTAR in her native Denmark 🇩🇰 shortly after that, Jamelia released her cover and it was a huge hit #3 UK 🇬🇧 #1 Australia and New Zealand 🇳🇿 😮

Almost all of those songs that were successful in Sweden were also successful in Latin America.

Roxette's 1999 single "Stars" reached #13 in Sweden, but only peaked at #56 in the UK. Likewise, Tove Lo's 2016 song "Cool Girl" charted at #15 in Sweden, but stalled at #46 in the UK.

@@dhenderson1810 The israeli charts from the 80s and 90 were very interesting, many songs had success only there. I'll try to include the most unique ones when I'll do a video about it.

I think Some of these had poor distribution in the uk . I bought both Somebody Dance With Me by DJ Bobo and Obsession by Army Of Lovers at the time and both were on pretty small labels with not much availability outside the big cities and only got airplay on MTV Europe which a lot of people in the uk still didn’t have in the early 90’s.

Promises - Baby It's You also reached Number 2 in Australia (3 wks April 1979). Kept from No.1 by Blondie - Heart Of Glass. Cannot understand how it never charted in the UK. Still a great tune 45 years on.

"Highland" by One More Time is a fantastic song. I had never heard of it until I moved to Czechia, where it regularly appears on the radio. That's one song the UK really missed out on. Twisted Sister's track is great too. "Shame Shame Shame" by whoever this Izabella is, wasn't a hit in the UK in 1992 because Sinitta had a top 30 hit with the song. It's amazing how artists like DJ Bobo, Kate Ryan & Sandra were huge across the rest of Europe and never had a single hit in the UK. With Bobo, it was probably connected to how stupid his name sounds in English (e.g. Bobo the Clown).

Izabella is Izabella Scorupco, known as the Bondgirl Natalya Simonova in GoldenEye.

Does "Mary Malagna" from Sarah sample "Lose Control" by Laura Branigan, as the backing track sounds similar and the backing singer says "Creatures of the night", which is also in "Self Control".

There is only one Italian song on the list which, however, has reached number 1. (In-Grid) I'd be curious to know if the Eurodance cover of Crime of Passion (by the Italian project Blamble B) entered the charts in Sweden since the original was a good success.

I’m glad I’m from the netherlands, most good songs charted in the top 40, spare for a few I really don’t understand why they never entered (chain reaction, how long, don’t stop believing, sister golden hair, the boys are back in town and stars from roxette)

I would argue a few of these are wrong. Like Jessica Folcker who is Swedish and mostly famous here. To be no 7 in Sweden and 47 in UK is not bad. The same goes for Leila K, September, E-Type and a few more.
