Yes. :) Punches and Palm Heel Strikes are effective if you know how to use them properly. Palm Heel Strikes are not substitutes for punches. Both Punches and Palm Heel Strikes have their own purpose.

Great video. Palm strikes are often my go to fighting strategy, because you can block, grab, and punch with the same hand depending upon the situation, but sometimes, palm strikes go wrong... They go wrong when you need the extra reach advantage. A fist will always give you superior reach, so if you are up against a boxer, who, may even be shorter than you, you may end up getting hit too many times. Also, it is a lot harder to break your fingers when you are hitting with a clenched fist. In any street fight, the primary thing of focus for me is grabbing hold of my opponents fingers while staying in an elbow guard for the head and neck. If somebody grabs your fingers, you are his trophy, the skill advantages and strength advantages go out the window, I mean I have done it more times than I count honestly, especially against wrestlers in my school lol. I have also given many dudes my forehead while getting overwhelmed with punches. These are tricks to employ when your head is rocked. I say the best bet in any self defense scenario is to start hitting with a clenched fist with a proper stance, and only go for the palm strikes when you have opening for power shots to the head.

Even Mike Tyson broke his hand in a street fight early in his boxing career. A skull is a hard target/bone compared to the small bones of the hand.

Remember, he was fighting another elite boxer. He also hit the poor sod so hard he was afraid the guy had died. The fracture was ultimately so minor that it only mattered because Mike Tyson's hands were worth millions. Finally, boxers in particular train in bulky boxing gloves, which force your hand into a particular shape and don't allow for proper bare-knuckle punching form. Personally, palm strikes REALLY hurt my wrists. I experimented palm strikes vs. punches with a friend once. Punches were fine even when I threw them quite hard, but after only a couple palm strikes, my wrist hurt for several weeks.

There is something to be said about familiarity. People who practice martial arts generally have a lot move volume of practice with punching, while palm strikes do not get the same amount of volume. This leads to it feeling easier and more natural for us to throw a punch which we are comfortable with over a palm strike in high stress situations. All I'm saying is that if you want to use a palm strike in a self defense situation make sure you actually get that training volume up so that you are not having to think about it when you cannot think.

Bro beginners ke liye Palm strike better hoga lekin professional train fighter ko pata hota h kaise bina injured hue punch krte h To agar aapko punch krne aata h to punch far better h palm strike se kyonki jab tum bina inured hue punch kr skte ho to punch knockout krne me kaam ata h jaha tak mujhe pata h Palm strike se knockout nahi kiya ja skta kyonki wo brain skull ko connect nahi krta aur punch connect kr leta h Aur ha soft body parts jaise skins example chick aur back pe jaha pe haddiyan nahi hoti waha pe slap ya Palm strike thoda better rhega lekin agar hard body part pe marna h to punch Also you can’t do palm strike in street fight because it’s not effective punch is more effective punch can break your face nose bones etc. palm strike can’t harm anything except ears and eyes

Hi, with all my respect, I would tend to disagree with the fact that a palm strike to the face is better than a punch. It's true that a palm strike allows you to strike hard but the palm is not as hard as a fist when it lands. You can try to get hit by a palm and by a punch by the same person, even on the body, personally I find that the punch had more "weight" and impact because when it is closed it is really hard. Also there is a risk to break your knuckles while punching, it's true, but that's why you condition them in your art and you can break your wrist with a palm strike too since the opponent is moving his head too so you can miss and hit with the wrong part of your hand. There is also a huge factor which make me think that a punch is probably better to use is that your instinct tells you to do so. In a fight, you have the feeling that your strikes don't do that much damage, that's why your body tend to tense up, so when you want to throw a palm strike but your instinct is telling you to do the opposite by closing and tensing your hand, you start to hesitate and this moment of hesitation can be what it takes to get knocked out. Personally I can't use palm strikes against someone who is using his fists, I think that the punch has more stopping power than a palm and it can also cause pain which can discourage your opponent from fighting any longer. Maybe I'm simply not good enough as a fighter but I think that breaking a knuckle to survive a fight is a small price to pay. There is too much to think, I would conclude by saying that I would avoid the fight if I can avoid it 😂😂
@ZeKiran3
@ZeKiran3 3 жыл бұрын
@AkoSi Muning How do you know it was as hard as a punch ? Was there something to mesure the impact and the pain caused by both ? I didn't say a palm strike is not hard, I'm saying that for me a punch cause more damage in general and has more stopping power
@kronk3462
@kronk3462 Жыл бұрын
wrong, think about this... hand bones are weak, they can be conditioned? yes, for sure... they need more skill to be effective and the risk to getting your hand jammed is high... if you aim for the KO, contusive power are needed, palm strike can bring that and have great shaking power on the head, knuckles can hurt, yea! but test on your own head-chin and feel the sensation, also palm strike well done using the body as boxer can do, could be lethal, because you can fuck the cervical of your attacker if are done from below to the head, like upper... also is more easy to grab the face skin from your opponent, using your thumb to pierce the eye, and more uses... i see more benefits on palm strike, rather than orthodox punch to the head; on the body a punch could be lethal, example liver shot, plexus, throath, etc... my experience are sambo and boxing, trained from the 13 years, now 30. experience in streets also, not so much, but the neccesary to check what are useful or useless to save your life.
@ZeKiran3
@ZeKiran3 Жыл бұрын
@@kronk3462 I already answered to most things you've said in my first comment, so I would probably repeat myself on some things. I already thought about this, I also studied and tried these concepts for myself in order to be able to talk about how I feel about it personally, again, I talk from my personal experience, from what I learnt and from what I saw, your experience and point of view can be different and it's totally okay. Hand bones are weak and can be conditionned, yes. In order to punch effectively, you have to train the technique and I agree with you on that point, but you need to train no matter what if you want to get better at fighting. Yes, punching without hurting yourself needs a lot of training, but so do palm strikes. Indeed, in order to use palm strikes, most people have to go against their natural instinct, which is already something most people won't be able to do in a fight with the adrenaline and the fear, because like I said, when you are under the stress of a fight, you tend to tense up which make it easier to close your fists and punch and throwing palm strikes can feel like holding back to most people and they would still end up throwing punches out of fear of losing or out of panic since in a real fight you already feel like your strikes don't do much damage unless you have been training under pressure for many many years. Also I've seen many fights, many from untrained people, some were trained, but most of them didn't hurt or even break their hands. You can get your hand jammed in a fight when throwing a punch and it's true, but like I said you can also hit wrong with your palm since you probably won't be precise under stress or your opponent would move or try to dodge which can make you hit with the wrong part of the hand and still break your wrist or your fingers even with a lot of palm conditionning. Again, I never said that palm strikes doesn't allow you to strike hard or to knockout someone, I said that the punch is probably harder and can cause more pain which can discourage your opponent, since there isn't the meatty part covering the bones which can feel like the punch is heavier and has more impact for the target. The test that you do on your own chin or head with the palm strike, you can also do it with your closed fist to feel the sensations, you can also try on your body and your legs to feel which one hurt more and feels the heaviest if thrown with the same power. If you feel that the palm is heavier and hurts more that you can keep using the technique in fights, it's totally fine, but personally I can't use palm strikes against someone throwing punches with his fists at me. You said that palm strikes allows you to grab and use your fingers and I agree, you can't do that as fast and fluidly with punches, but still I personally would prefer to use my closed fists as my first or default choice and then open them when I need to. But if you are able to use palm strikes in fights then good for you, keep using it if you feel that it benefits you more since it is the most important in a fight to feel confident in your abilities in my opinion 👍

clickbait title, thats like asking whats better, a sniper rifle or a 9mm, it depends on that situation, palmstrike is faster, and punch is stronger, just like one inch punch wasn't used as a bread and butter move, it was used in certain situations that arise, eg when two opponents clash and you don't have room to back up, it taught the fighter to use science, twisting the hip, popping the should to allowed you to transfer body mass to a short range attack
