I played against someone who uses a western forehand like Swiatek. When he gets a clean hit, the pace is fast & the spin is extreme. It’s going through the court while spinning & I’m having trouble finding out where the contact point is or how I should hit the ball. I’m a 4.0, eastern fh (like to hit flat) & Single handed bh that has spin comparable to western fh grip 😂.

Hit the ball earlier, and don't let it get above your shoulders. I know, easier said than done. If you can't, simply hit a slice backhand. Or, step back and let the ball lower.

I have a weak-powered one-handed backhand to begin with. Executing a high one-handed backhand with pace is about impossible for me. In this case, I would be throwing up a lob versus trying to drive the ball.
@willkittwk
@willkittwk 11 ай бұрын
Try driving a cut slice BH with a low bounce and look to take control off opponents reply. Lot of times it's hard for him to generate another high bounce topspin back even pros have hard time. You ever watch say Fed and Djoks hitting low slice back and forth that's usually cause it's hard to come over till the slice bounce up a little more so they can drive over the ball. Watch the pros play with the eyes of a student rather than a fan. And evaluate what and why they're doing things.

Take the ball on the rise and avoid the high ball. Slice or topspin will do the job depending on how good your timing is. PM is demonstrating an athletic, laborious technique that is not sustainable for long rallies even for advanced players.

Crazy how bad his advice can be sometimes... You're never going to be able to hit with power with this technique because you're primarily relying on your rear delt to generate power; one of the weakest muscles. Instead of staying sideways like he's doing, you must continue to have good shoulder and hip rotation. You can still do this in a neutral or closed stance, watch Wawrinka, but I recommend hitting with an open stance on these balls. Musetti and Thiem comes to mind as one of the better open stance 1h backhands on tour right now. Thiem actually switched to 1h partly to handle high balls better.

@@oakoat9302 I'm not a KZbinr, but there might be a video already on it. Just try to practice some backhands with an open stance, but making sure your shoulders are almost perpendicular to the net on take back, and rotate them so they're around parallel to the net on your finish. Keep your strings slightly closed at contact, and brush up and out for top spin. After awhile, it should feel more natural, and you can start doing with tougher balls. This will really help with returns, running backhands, and against high, deep balls. Ironically, Fernando Gonzalez didn't really have a strong backhand overall, but he did a pretty good job hitting it open stance. He's another guy you can look at to study
@CartoonSlug

@@oakoat9302 If I can add in my two cents, for high balls you can also try a jumping one-handed backhand, Shapovalov style, to get at the same height as the ball without adjusting your swing as much.

That's nonsense of course. One handed backhand players should slice the ball when it goes over shoulder level. That's tennis 101. It's obvious that Tsitsipas has been influenced by you an that's why he has become Carlos's best client. You should have tought him to slice the ball.

That shot doesn't look convenient for sure. First off all, you won't be in a position to run and hit like that in a match😂. If you make a video of 10 high ball backhand shots continuously hitting like this, 70% of the time the ball is going to land in wrong spots.😂
