This is pure gold. Awesome, clear instructions that my 10 yo girl can understand and put into practice for drills. Thank you so much for making this available for all to access. This is private coaching that normally costs a fortune to get all neatly wrapped up and exceptionally delivered in one video. Ms. Andrews, you are a rock star. I'm blown away by your amazing ability to explain complex mechanics in a clear and concise way. My daughter loves watching you. I'm convinced your instructions and her putting into practice with tee work have had a direct immediate impact on her hitting. After doing these drills several days a week for just a week, she's now consistently driving to the outfield every at bat. She's gone from base hits to the infield where she can outrun the throw to first if she's lucky to now hitting doubles and triples every single time. It's simply amazing. Thank you!!!

We are working on this in the yard in 15 minutes, game time at 6pm. I will post back how she did but I really think getting deep into the hip to contact is a great way of explaining power. I am SOUPED! Thank you.

Thank you AJ my little girl is lefty and your video helped me explain hitting as a lefty to where I am righty and I think it helped her see another lefty hit and set it in her mind

I loved this video!! I was just wondering if on step 1 that we’re supposed to swing all the way through, or stop once we make contact?
@justbats3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! I'll do my best to fill in for AJ here, but I may fall short of her expertise hah. For Step 1, I believe that she is focusing on what she does with her hands, hips and legs right up to the point of contact PLUS the extension through the softball after the point of contact. From this video, it appears that she does not complete her full swing (i.e. does not allow the bat to go all the way around her back) during Step 1. I would imagine that she does not complete the full swing so as to put extra emphasis on not "pulling away" from the ball and instead focus on extending through the softball to get backspin and distance on the hit.

She says not to turn with that back foot but do what works for you. If turning your foot works better then do it and if you do better with only turning your hips then do that.

You are cutting across your body with this video. In order to create early bat speed, you must create resistance as you walk away from the hands. Slow down any elite MLB swing, which should be any coaches swing to achieve whether baseball or softball, and you will notice that the hands work around the back shoulder, not cutting across the body, as you are applying (3:12) in this video. Your technique will deprive players of early bat speed, speed behind them. There are other areas of your teaching that I could address in greater detail, as the extension mechanics, but that's for another time. Try walking away from the hands like Mia Davidson, Sierra Romero, Katiyana Mauga, and so on. All elite MLB players apply this move, all. This allows for a better, elite hand path, early bat speed, more power, better extension. I once taught what you are sharing and it deprived my students of power. I wish you well. Just sharing years of trial and error. 🙏

Hi, Thanks for your input. Katiyana Mauga + Sierra Romero have both been teammates of mine on professional teams - they certainly have amazing swings and generate a lot of power. I am always up to hear new information - the best athletes are always learning. However, I do think it is important to point out that In this video I am focusing more on hip explosive power. At (3:12) which you pointed out as one of your examples - I'm just going to contact for one because I was demonstrating how to explode from the hip rather than turn. In my experience working with a lot of young players, many kids spin instead of exploding from the hip which is why that was my focus for this video. Every step in this buildup had a focus on staying in the hip and in the coil - not hands. In regards to extension mechanics that you'd like to "save for another video" I think that would make the most sense due to the fact that not only am I not speaking about bat speed here but I am explaining in the lamest terms for softball players that are just starting out and want more explosive hip power. Furthermore, the getting through the slot in the beginning of the video that I mentioned explains not "cutting across the body" as I would explain it to someone who is just learning. One last thing - If you have been in baseball/softball for some time you would understand that swings and mechanics have been evolving and changing literally every single year as more technology is implemented to break down swings. More info an ways to get be better, faster and more explosive will keep coming out. Two baseball/softball players can do the exact same drill and it help one athlete but not the other, it is all about finding what works for you. SOOOO if you are an athlete and this helps you feel more explosive even as you continue to grow and learn - KEEP IT UP! Thank you.
