I was a teenager. I remember listening to this and being so scared. There were people in my neighborhood looking sick and passing. I was thinking it sounded like AIDS. As they had no idea what was really going on yet. Then it was AIDS. People in NYC were scared. We weren’t sure how this virus spread. We were desperate to save lives. I remember the FDA would not approve AZT. We were desperate for some hope. It was a horrible time. I turned on the tv in Brooklyn,NY the Brownsville section to be exact. The group Act Up were protesting. Never saw anything like it. They started climbing buildings. No was not a choice. I learned the power of the people. I knew in my community the common denominator was drug use. My brother was already a heroine addict. I feared that this would be my brother’s demise. I was assured he didn’t share anything. That false sense of security that was. I started to hear he was infected. I honestly didn’t believe that. We were so close. I knew he would never lie to me like this. It was what was supposed to be my first day at college. My sister lied repeatedly but chose that morning to tell me. She called me that late August morning and she confirmed my fears. I was out of my mind. I left to school. Crying all the way there. It was a lab class that wasn’t starting till the following week. I confronted my brother and them…

I have the privilege of working with these patients everyday. They are some of the most grateful and kind individuals I’ve had the pleasure of caring for. It’s an honor to serve this community after the absolute hell they’ve endured due to stigma surrounding their diagnoses. They’re really some of the strongest people I’ve ever met.

In July of 1989, my Uncles Rick and Pablo died of AIDS within weeks of each other. They were the kindest, gentlest people I have ever known. They were the only adults that always had time for me. They would play catch or paint with me when the other grown ups shooed me away. RIP You will never be forgotten ❤

I am glad to know more about this after 40 years As someone who has lived with it for 21years and going, I just hope they could help us with some for this because it is also causing STIGMA, and in some countries you are not allowed to travel to and some even work there etc...the negative reasons for being HIV in this WORLD are beyond MILLIONs.... In other words we just can't do what other NORMAL PEOPLE DO...because we are looked at in a strange way and disgusting manner.... For that's how I leave and always, but still stood up strong and smiled and find happiness in myself, because I know it is not my fault that I was born like that.....

Relax and drink your coffee and count your days BEcause you basically infected yourself w HIV stran that’s within the COVId 19 protein cell and you will not be able to survive without the anitvirals. You will be begging for medication and the giver won’t help you. While the pure bloods will still be able to give blood cause we won’t be infected unless we have sex w an infected person or share blood. Anyways you’ll see abs by then it’ll be to late. -At 1st Aids was considered a joke to us. We grew up before aids arrived. So us straights would laugh & say together as a group "AIDS, KILLS F-GS DEAD". A take off on the old Raid roach spray tv commercial RAID, KILLS ROACHES DEAD. Looking back on the years & how it's ripple effects have taken countless lives outside of the main group to get it, all I can do is say sympathies & condolences to the families left behind.
