I am looking to make one for 2 way hive pallets. my thought was to make exactly this but build a wider "carrier" that has tubular arms instead of flat bar. any major changes to design or materials that you would recommend?

That's a great idea. The lift that I have will work for lifting from the wider side and all I would need to do is build arms with a closer to the lift hinge as the width is adjustable by pulling the arms in or out of the back brace. I would love to see a finished hive lift once you finish it. Blessings!
