Thank you! Those videos are coming although the WeatherXM token launch hasnt happened yet. I think they are targeting late February. My WeatherXM deployments have been with my Helium hosts that are weather fanatics to date (have about 70 rooftop Helium installs). I have a number of DIMO videos coming though!

Very informative, thank you so much. I'm about to start a fleet using co workers. I was considering doing a referral approach but not quite like how you have set it up. I would just give your referee an extra 10% on their end. Therefore if they refer someone, they get 60 percent and you get 40. Then there referral gets 50/50 split with you. You can change the payout in the fleet management tool. I wouldn't make a separate transaction for the referral rewards. Just up the split out for the referee from 50/50 to 60/40. I'm also thinking of about increasing the split out an extra 5 or 10%, per year, while driving with the cam. So 1 year of driving with the cam will automatically entitle you to a 60/40 split even if you don't refer someone. (Or 55/45 split-depending on what you want to do).

Thanks Ryan! There are many ways to structure the splits so that everyone is happy but the main thing is making sure you have an effective referral program! I will say that I have drivers that have referred several other drivers and them having the ability to get rewards directly tied to the performance of those drivers that’s uncapped has been very effective. You would likely want to incorporate something that continues to increase on top of the 60/40 if they send additional drivers.

I realize you're not a tax professional, but for the referrals, we will be sending lots of Honey to lots of people over the course of the year. For tax purposes, I'm guessing we would need to know the USD value of Honey each time you send referral payments, right? The tax aspects are what have me concerned from a paperwork aspect. It really would be 100% easier if HM allowed a 3 or 4 way split.

It would be MUCH easier I agree. It was one of the main asks I had when the fleet management tool was being built out but in the grand scheme of things, there are a lot of other features that are more important for their team to focus on that have a larger impact on the project’s success overall. I am hopeful a 3 or 4 way split will come at some point.

Very informative video! A few questions though: How do you handle loss, damage, theft of your dash cam, or getting ghosted by the driver after dash cam delivery? Couldn't the driver simply create a new wallet with your dash cam and leave you out in the cold? I hate to sound so cynical, but the reality is that people aren't always above board. Also, how do you handle the taxes portion of crypto with the IRS? I know this isn't "financial advice", but Uncle Sam expects to get paid too and taxes is something all crypto participants will have to deal with.

All great questions! Once you connect to the dashcam with any wallet that’s enabled on your fleet, it will lock that camera down so that no other wallets can use it. I did start very early in this project before fleet management was available and did find some funny business but was able to put a stop to it with some investigation on the blockchain! In theory the cam could still be stolen but it would basically be a brick and provide no value. The drivers would be silly not to protect it because if the cam disappears so do their rewards! Yes this is absolutely treated as income. There are a ton of tax tools available out there and the great thing about blockchain technology is that every transaction is logged. One nice thing is that for my personal taxes I only need to account for the referral splits I’m sending out because the driver split is coming directly from the Hivemapper wallet. That said, while I don’t provide tax guidance I do make the drivers aware that their rewards are taxable income and send tax tools they can utilize. Nice thing about 2023 is the HONEY token was very low for much of the year so the tax basis is low. Obviously if/when I sell capital gains will come into play. I’ll have to be a little more careful to protect myself in 2024 with the price action we’ve been seeing. Hope this helps!

Thanks for answering my questions so quickly! That's very reassuring to know that it's possible to "lock down" a camera to a wallet so no other wallet can use it. I was unaware of that feature. Kudos to you for all of the work you have put into this, as I'm sure you and your drivers will be rewarded very well for your efforts. I watched your first video about recruiting drivers and was curious to know how many Uber and Lyft trips you had to take in order to 1) Find the right driver and 2) fine-tune your pitch until you started seeing traction. Uber and Lyft passenger fares aren't cheap, so I again applaud your efforts for sticking with it in the early days. I look forward to your future videos on Hivemapper fleet development. Keep up the good work!

What happens if you try to connect to your own fleet camera? For now I want to land my camera for days I don't drive.

I generally set up a separate wallet that’s set up for personal mapping and just add it to my fleet with a 100% allocation. As long as the dashcam is locked after you add all active drivers to your roster it can be utilized by anyone in your fleet without issue.

Is all we need to do is connect to our main wallet for the fleet to do updates and lock it and then connect it to the fleet drivers phone and add their wallet to our fleet as a driver right? For some reason my cam hadn’t been locked so I connected to it, locked it and then disconnected from it and had him connect to the cam and now it won’t show up on his phone. Wondering why that is. Thinking maybe it is a glitch but have tried resetting both devices and connecting and reconnecting wallet. Amoy other suggestions? Thanks.

hey hey! I have been mapping myself for 5 months and now running a 12 cam fleet with 5 more on the way. I have a few drivers now with 2 cams in their cars. I can tell the rewards are 2 cams worth, but they are all going on one cam, the other cam is not getting the rewards, which is going to be tricky when it comes to getting my 250 km mapped to get my 2500 honey airdop. I am trying to figure out what I am missing, or what I did wrong in setting my 2 cam system up. They have separate phantom addresses hooked up to each cam, so I do not know why rewards aren't going to each cam

I do 50:50 for front cam. Or 60:40 if they do a side camera so I give them a extra 10%

That’s an interesting thought. In my experience the second cam earns less than the original cam. What percentage of your drivers are set up with two cams?

@@DePINConnection so far 100% (1 driver, he drives mobile appointments 5 days a week, then 1 or 2 days the weekend) I have more cameras ordered he drives lots of newly unmapped neighborhoods in-between jobs in a company wrapped vehicle so free advertising for them to.

Hey Bradley, I herd you say the phantom Wallet gets tied to the Camera. What if the Driver( contributor) decides to stop mapping for whatever reason & you want to use that Camera with a New Driver. Appreciate any Information on this.

There are a couple of options! You would just need to unlock the dashcam which you can do with your fleet management account if you can connect directly to the dashcam, but they also have a way of doing this remotely now. Basically once it’s unlocked, as soon as another account that’s activated on your fleet management connects to the dashcam, it will be locked down again!

I would recommend using a dedicated wallet that you have custody over as the fleet management wallet and then set them up on fleet management with their own wallet for a 50% split. This will automate the reward split each Thursday for the Hivemapper team.

I have each camera locked down so they can only map with the wallet that I have set up on fleet management. For anyone that would steal the equipment it would essentially be a useless brick but that certainly doesn’t mean someone wouldn’t try. Fortunately, I haven’t had that happen to this point!
