Nashville hot chicken sandwich is gentrification too. The og creators, black owned prince's, never offered a sandwich. They refused to add it to the menu for years. Then Hattie-b's started, the white owned copy of prince's that has expanded all over the place even into other cities, and their sandwich became the most popular item on the menu. Prince's eventually had to relent and add it to the menu to compete.

frybread is actually a native american thing, not sure why it's wyoming's state food. the invention of frybread itself is intertwined with native culture and american colonialism. native ppl who were forcefully removed from their homes were given a pittance of ingredients by the US government to survive on. frybread only came about because native people had to figure out something to cook with what they were given while also being deprived of their traditional food sources also, the frybread shown is served as an "indian taco" (a taco with frybread as the tortilla)

I'm from Montana and I actually agree that huckleberry ice cream should be our state dish tbh. They actually did a good job with that one. Huckleberry ice cream is amaaaaazing! You can get some from the Tillamook brand, which is pretty good but getting it from a local store that sells actual hand picked huckleberries and drops them in is a whole new experience.

Alabama man here. White barbecue sauce is a vinegar-based sauce unlike almost all barbecue sauces which are tomato sauce based. If you’re ever in the north Alabama area try it out. It’s unique and pretty damn good too.

St. Louis, Missouri has a huge italian population and one of the last italian neighborhoods in America, called "the Hill." Toasted Raviolis were invented there and are fucking heavenly. OK, wasn't expecting that for Cincinnati chili. Deadspin made a list of state foods in 2013 that also included Washington, D.C. and "getting hit by a car" and Cincinnati chili was ranked #52. But yeah, it's at least A-tier for sure, especially with the mountain of cheese and some hot sauce for extra tartness and a little heat. "Good in the Taco Bell sort of way" is a really good way of explaining it.

As someone who went to Norwegian culinary school, it is in fact called "breading condom". We do however, often use "food condom" instead, since breading is specific for frying stuf, like fish and such. But food condoms can also be saran wrap/plastic wrap, like for when you'd make a terrine. All breading condoms are food condoms, but not all food condoms are breading condoms.

New York did in fact invent the Pizza. Some of what Americans think is Italian food is actually invented by Italian Americans. The Italian version was not called pizza until after the American version. It was popular among soldiers in Italy during WW2 and they wanted it back in America so it became its own dish. Because it then became world famous later on Italy got all pissy about it and started calling their stuff authentic Italian pizza. Nobody tells them about the Chicken Perm which is also American or they will start crying and act like they invented that as well.
