I think that the Malstrain being locked into Secundus makes a lot of sense with the lore. And if/when a corrupted gang gets back out and returns to home turf, makes a lot of sense the “proper” Genestealer Cults would hate them since the Hive Mind has rejected them. Great video bud, I think it’s a really characterful boxed set all told. Can’t wait to get some Spyrers 😊 Carry on being awesome and take care.

I think it's definitely an easy way to introduce a new player. That's my goal. Also, I have a Van Saar gang, and those tek hunters are sexy.

I think the sculptor did a great job on making it feel like technology from outside of the imperium, which fits the new lore perfectly.

So we preordered the Hive Secundus box purely because of how awesome the models looked. Zero Necromunda experience. Now we're wondering if it's really the best start, especially since one of us likes both malstrain and van Saar the most out of all options and the other will ultimately go for another gang or two for that reason. Any suggestions for this particular situation?

Given your want to explore the wider world of Necromunda the hive secundus boxset probably wasn't the best place to start, however by GW pricing standards, you did get a 'good deal' for the minis in the box, getting them seperately would have cost you more. So the next thing you want to focus on is getting the bare minimum to get you playing the main game with others. Given your interest in van saar I would highly recommend the HOUSE OF ARTIFACE book, as that will give you all the rules you need for running a vansaar gang. You might want to look at some of the other van saar miniature boxes as well to help round out your gang. As for the malstrain if you want to use them outside of the hive secundus boxset, you'll need the book of desolation. And you'll want to look at running a 'corrupted' gang. Good news is, you can combine both malstrain and vansaar if you want to run a corrupted gang, and you will have access to all of the malstrain models from the Secundus boxset this way.

My local FLGS is getting ready to start a campaign, and I’ve been looking forward to jumping back into Necromunda. I have reserved this box from my FLGS, as I was excited to use the Malstrain gang in the campaign. Looks like that won’t be happening now, which is a shame.

Nice overview as usual:) I guess this 'box-locked' 2-player campaign is partially meant to be a 'gateway' to tempt dungeon-crawl Role-players/Board-gamers into Necromunda proper. It seems pretty streamlined and 'restricted' to ONLY what's in the box, which is a bit of a letdown (they could still have allowed you to put the Orrus in charge of any gang, besides Van Saars, even if they don't yet have their own 'Tech hunter specialists' equivalent, just by adding those rules/post battle actions to common existing Hanger-ons...); granted there is nothing stopping eager arbitrators/gaming groups from adding a few House rules to open up the campaign to all House gangs, while we wait for the release of the official expansion book and extra kits (I guess if they were going to release them the week right after, they'd have mentioned it already, so my overly-optimistic guess would be September and my cynical guess would be November). Anyway, I pre-ordered this box and will be using it as the aforementioned 'gateway' board-game to tempt some of my locals into Necromunda and we'll see how it works out. @@janklevaivancic4263 the thing is, it does state in the boxset that incursion gangs can be made up of the 6 main houses... It just fails to tell you HOW! but I expect that will be coming in the new book! 😅

I will be grabbing one of these for a play through with a mate, but I am disappointed with the paper playing surface and worried about its longevity. Is it really too much to ask for the durable card tiles that we have seen before?

@@DewiSant5063 I understand your concerns.. It's a similar material to the Ash Wastes Matt, it's a shame it's not like the dark Uprising one - which felt more robust. Still can you imagine how much more the box would have cost if they'd included the plastic terrain? 😬

I too fear that its a lite box of whats to come. But counting up all the plastic in it, i think its fine. I think you easily can play 2- 4 vs the malstrain. Just devide the 1250.

I was keen to get this as an intro to Necromunda for a friend and I, but it seems as though one person ends up playing and the other is in more of an administrative role. Have I understood that correctly? I’m just concerned that between the two of us, one of us will end up having a lot more fun than the other.

@@JabbaTheHuff that's a fair assessment. It does specifically state that one player is the arbitraitor, so the assumption tends to be that the 'more experienced player' will take on that role. That said. You've gotta start somewhere! It worked well enough for older game. Systems back in the day like SPACE HULK .

Question. Can i use astra militarum stats and equipment from shadow war Armageddon. To play Hive secundus. I really want to make a few squad's of 6th death blade's 7th lucky sevens 8th spider's. With house greim if i choose. Can this work.

@@thetraitorguardsmen.5321 I wouldn't have thought so. You could just proxy the existing models in the box, but this is a very insular campaign system themed specifically around these factions. I imagine there will be more scope for other gang types in the book that's coming out at some point, but even then you'd still need to proxy your models with Stats from Necromunda, not Shadow war.

Couldn't the units be adapted to other Necromunda, it shouldn't be that hard to find comparable units somewhere that match some of the ones in this box, then, based on that, work out what the normalized game cost would be. Beyond that do they have anything that is really different? Or at least couldnt be adapted?

If you're referring to the malstrain, they've now been costed in the Book Of Desolation. However It says very clearly they are not to be used in games or campaigns outside of a underhells campaign (the campaign in the Book of Desolation is also called 'Underhells'... Not confusing at all). It's obvious they only do this for narrative purposes, as the Pure Malstrain aren't found outside the confines of hive secundus. So ultimately if you want to completely ignore that and your arbitraitor / opponent is cool with it as well, you can use them however you want. But generally speaking 'guesstimating' costs based on other in game costs, if not explicitly stated is an area I will always keep away from because you'll always get someone who has a problem with it because it's not 'official'. Luckily in this case it's not a problem anymore.

Oh I agree it's reasonable, especially with some of the FLGS prices I've seen for it. I just expected that they'd make it have a broader appeal to justify its cost - I'm guessing they've figured this way was actually more profitable. But there are definitely going to be a lot of people who will love this.

Yes, if its just the spyrers you're after you'll be best off waiting for the book and spyrer gang box to drop 👍
