I find myself coming back here every few weeks to listen to this clip. Good stuff.

If you want to see more Bass+HiWatt goodness, check out John Wetton's work in King Crimson. His monstrous bass tone was almost 100% Hiwatt

That was really awesome man... I thought I was the only dude playing bass through a HIWATT. I have a dr405 with 4x10 and 1x15 cabs, both fane loaded. I love it!! I also have the studio/stage with a 2x12 with fanes that I use for more quiet practices. Not sure why more people don't demo or use these amps for bass. I was quite pleased to come across your video. Nice place too!

Probably for the same reason people don't use Fender Bassmans for bass....Only 100 watts. But this HW 103 sounds sweet cranked.
@leopoldbluesky4 жыл бұрын
I've been using my DR103 for bass for 30 years - plenty powerful enough! Currently going through a 1x15 loaded with a 500w Eminence cone, works great with guitar too.

@@leopoldbluesky , Nice, I am considering a dr103 with either 412 or 215 Cab. I do like a octivator sound, low with a nice scooped out fret slap sound, thought s??
@leopoldbluesky4 жыл бұрын
@@jeffjeff4477 115 will probably get you some deeper lows and give you that scooped sound if you have a tweeter in your cab. Personally I go for a more classic 60s rounded sound with flatwound strings on a passive PJ Jaguar bass and the 115 gets me that sound. I used to have a no-name 412 back in the 90s, massive thing loaded with Fane bass cones. Great sound, very growly with the Jazz bass I played back then, but I stuffed my back up several times lifting it into the car. I'm currently gassing for a Barefaced Bass cab which will probably weigh far less than the HiWatt head!

@@bflo1000 100 watts should be plenty enough if the other players around aren't a bunch of ear ripping punks. Also there are 200w and 400w Hiwatt heads. They don't have direct outputs though, they're pricey, heavy and needs more maintenance than transistor heads. They also have a very basic EQ and got no other stuff like compressors, so you most likely have to carry other equipment with you. So maybe other amps are more practical and versatile for the regular players who don't want to carry pedalboards, racks, microphones and wait until the tubes are cool to move the amp

Wow, I know Entwistle played through Hiwatt for a time but has there ever been one dedicated to bass?
@bigrodney2482 жыл бұрын
there has been, and the HIWATT 200 is made for both bass and guitar. I see them like Marshalls, made for guitar but can be used with bass as well.

all i want to know is, if it is possible to have clean sound when you turn up the volume? thank you
@mickenikkila31968 жыл бұрын
+Irwine Rodrigues It has so much distortion because the master is at max, and it sounds awesome. Also loud as hell. These have great clean sound especially on guitar. For clean, no distortion at all sound on bass I would probably go for a modern, lighter amphead.
