Its a little late to the game, but this video put me over the edge into getting the HK45 as my first handgun. Even though I had 10+ hours of research on the subject I was anticipating a small amount of buyers remorse. I am thankful to say I have 0, (zero) remorse. Best purchase of my life. Thanks.

Great video. My HK45C has a special place in my gun safe right next to eight of my 1911's of various species, a P2000, and two VP9s. While I've always been a 1911 guy I have to pay homage to the HK45C based on how well I shoot it; the fact (read: preference) that it's not striker-fired; its unparalleled reliability; and its fit, finish, and functional completeness. For example when you rack the slide on this gun, just the mechanical sounds it makes, instills my confidence in it. I also appreciate the way the safety and decocker work to facilitate carrying it cocked and locked, and enable you to rack the slide with the safety on. The HK45C, in my view, stands out among many other outstanding handguns in this category. I wouldn't criticize any of the others in this category...but this one works well for me.

Nothing against the other contenders, but I strongly feel that there is no better , more reliable combat gun, for ANY amount of money, than any of the hammer fired HK’s. I own most of them. My two favorite EDCs are the P30 40 SW, HK45C, and P30SKS. Near perfect as a combat/defense firearm. Just picked up a P30L. 9mm. May have to work that one into the EDC rotation. I’ve never shot a finer gun. I just finished ridding my collection of all striker fired guns.

I first got mine in 1996 after witnessing the testing that the US military put them through. With the hexagonal barrel, the rounds are not as hampered with lands and groves. The muzzle velocity is greater and it is one of the most accurate handguns I own. Stock sights with a rest, I managed a 7" group on the 100 yd range. Amazing. I swear I could see the round lob downrange. I wonder if I can modify it to get that new polymer bushing for recoil although it does have a dual spring that works pretty well

Just wanted to say thank you for making this video. I own several firearms and the HK45 is one of them. I pretty much echo your review as being spot on. If this firearm carried 12 or more rounds and had some minor improvements to the trigger it would basically be the perfect polymer 45 in my opinion and I tried a LOT of polymer 45's at the range before finally making my purchase. Once you actually shoot the firearm you will understand why is it so great.

@@apocalypticredix8538 Both when you can afford it! I came to the H&K45 from 1911, so I planned to carry it cocked and locked. I found that it was, for me at least, impossible. So it is surprising to see that you actually committed 100% to it. 1) the rear of the frame is wide, and if I rested my thumb on the safety (as one should), wore no gloves, and shot hot rounds, the frame kicked me in the base knuckle of my thumb so hard that it was actually painful within the first magazine 2) if firing hot rounds one handed and using the safety to apply pressure on the gun, it was quite easy to accidentally decock the gun. Which, in the middle of a string of fire, was very confusing I have since converted to the LEM setup and I could not be happier. It is 95% as shootable as SA and 100% as safe as DA/SA, and no ergonomic issues with the safety/decocker lever. As an added bonus, with LEM it is impossible to forget to decock or make safe the gun before holstering. So make that 101% as safe as DA/SA.

I finally got one of these (it's competing with the FNX-45 as my HDG). Great ergos. It needs a few updates though: 1. Optic cut like VP9OR (sorry but I need optics) 2. Hook the front of the trigger guard like the VP9. I don't use this grip but still some people do. 3. Extended mag option (similar to VP9SK extended mag options)

Love my HK45 full size. My 2nd HK45 full size. Had to sell my early production 1st one but just picked up a new one. Still a V1 full size and grabbed 2 spare mags on sale for $32 each. Mag prices are the short coming of HK 45 pistols. Normally $50+ per mag. I was surprised to see that HK changed the pistol case up. Originally, the case was a large, black plastic case with no foam inside and came with 1 back strap, 2 mags, and 1 fired shell case from factory. Now, small gray case with foam. No fired shell casing, but still 2 mags. I see no difference to gun itself which is perfect because it is the best, most accurate handgun I ever shot. I mean precise over and over out of the box. The trigger I like though some say theirs is gritty. Neither of mine have/had gritty feeling triggers. The slide release is the best in the business. No one does slide release better. Someone may have issues releasing the mag when shooting if they have real large hands but I have never inadvertently released a mag while shooting. I love my HK45 full size and trust my life with it with no hesitation. Can everyone else say that about their weapon of choice???

"Use higher quality magazines" Bullshit. A good pistol works from the factory on ALL ammo. And my H-K happily digests shit steel cast Russian ammo, JHP, HP, wadcutters, anything I've used. I had one jam with some steel case that had some rust. It also hits the target. All the time for me, which is what I couldn't do with my first 45, a wide body Llama which I couldn't his the proverbial barn door with. In short I agree with everything in this review.

I don't begrudge someone if they want to use the slide catch as a slide release, especially if it is large and ambi, as in this case, and thus, obviously designed to be used as such. The problem is that slide catches tend to be shaped and sized differently, and located in slightly different spots, which can make cross training between different makes and models difficult. I use the slide because it makes my manual of arms more universal. Regardless of whether I am using a 1911, a Glock, a Beretta, or a SIG, I can always grab the slide and release it in pretty much the same way.

I like the 10+1 capacity after shooting and handling other maker's .45s with higher capacity mags. I would buy a 14 or 15 round mag just to have for WTH why not use. But, for everyday use the flusher fitting mag just suits the gun better IMO. I think HK really got the form spot on for ease of carry, ease of handling, ease of mag changes, ease of holster removal, etc. An extended mag with 15 rounds or more sticking out the mag well would just be handy for range use. But, having 4+ mags and a really good speed loader like some of the quality ratchet styles available for under $20 work extremely well. I use my ratchet speed loader all the time at the range.

Hey, been looking at pistols for a while and have been saving up to get one. So I appreciate the in depth review. I've shot 9s and 45acp and prefer the 45. Now my question is, what do you feel about the Taurus 24/7 OSS? And how do you think it'd stack up with the HK? For insight, I have big hands. To where my dad's Beretta px4 storm(9mm) feels a tad too small.
@thesteelknightsarmory2157 жыл бұрын
If i recall correctly they stopped making them or they are on to Gen2. I know that some of them were hit or miss on reliability. But for the most part i thought it was a great attempt by Taurus that succeeded in a lot of ways. Just never gained traction. I do not however believe that it had the build quality to stand up against the punishment that the HK's can. But as to hand size I think the HK45 would work just fine for you, i know plenty of large guys who find the HK45 a great fit. Best thing to do is visit a gun store that has one. Try the grip out. Try out the large grip backstrap. I can tell you however that some people love the taurus trigger, and others couldnt get used to the shape. Personally i thought it was just fine. HK45 has less recoil in my opinion.

TheSteelKnight's Armory yes, Taurus handguns are hit or miss. You may wind up with a POS that you can't trust. Never buy a gun you may not be able to trust. Spend the extra money on a proven, reliable firearm. I learned hard way with my first handgun which was a Taurus .357 revolver snubbie. Worked fine for 1k round then literally broke in my hand shooting AFTER sending in to Taurus for repair of light hammer strikes. CIA 650ss internal hammer .357 1 7/8 snubbie. After 3 returns to factory I sold that pistol. It was a Brazilian made Taurus too which were reportedly better made. It did have an excellent form which fit my hand BETTER than my Ruger sp101 bobbed hammer.357 2 1/4" revolver. But, reliability is the most critical aspect of a handgun. Reliability is #1 factor of a firearm. #1!!!!!!! Unless you are doing competition shooting, accuracy is second consideration. Looks are irrelevant as that is up to the purchaser as to what looks good and what does not look good. Reliability is what matters the most, above all else.

Compare to the PX4 Storm .45. The Storm is softer shooting, just as accurate, with a better trigger, yet the same size as the HK45 compact. Only weakness is the location of the decocker, but that is still better than the location of the HK mag release. In independent testing, the Storm went over 31,000 rounds before it had a failure, compared to the HK at 25,000 for a spring. All for less cost.

Is the ambi (left side) slide release loose and wobbly like on the P2000/P30? Shoot HK pistols naturally and do appreciate them but the janky ambi slide release has had me stick with the USP series. While I realise that may not matter much for most people I am one of those that when something irritates me I can't stop thinking about it. The ambi slide release was janky on the p2000, so why wasn't that fixed moving forward?

Got mine for 775 with truglo sights and 3 magazines. I love this gun more than anything. It is my bedside gun because I demoted my Glock to my wife.

Nice video. One question: are stock sights made of polymer or metal?

They are metal.
