I purchased one for $600 shipped about 4 weeks ago. It was considered a pre-order since they are flying off the shelf. Took 2 weeks for them to get one to ship. I got it about 8 days ago and finally got to shoot it. I set it up with Ozark Armament Flip Up Iron Sights and a Sig Sauer Romeo5 1x20mm Compact 2 Moa Red Dot. I did disassemble as Sootch showed and it was easy. Took to the range today and must say I am thoroughly impressed. 25 yards had many holes touching and at 50, less than 1 inch groups with cheap ammo. I even shot at 100 and 200 yards with good hits once I corrected for the drop. Recoil was minimal. It didn't sound like shooting a 9mm, which make sense because it was being shot thru a longer barrel. I can't describe it but it was an oddly muted sound. I have been looking for a while and was preparing to purchase a pistol caliber carbine and I am so glad I delayed. Once I saw the S&W FPC, I know that it was the one I wanted. Now waiting on 10mm and 45 ACP. No misfires with cheap 115 grain ammo
@micah66048 Жыл бұрын
If one was to chop the barrel and rail right after where the charging handle latches, how long would the barrel be? I'm thinking a setup like the Sub CQB, with a fixed 9mm suppressor so the overall length is the same and you could cross state lines without a Form 20.

There's the Mcarbo folding latch mount for the sub2k but it's $150 just for that, which bumps the differential cost right up to the FPC. Not to mention how it's just better to get a product specifically engineered to do something upfront rather than a rubber-band type of add-on fix.
@laurogarza4953 Жыл бұрын
Well done, Sootch. Another excellent production. Some years ago, the 2000s, and during my Texas law enforcement career in Houston's most gritty side, another deputy asked me, "Could you explain why I might need a rifle in a pistol caliber?" I explained, "Imagine you could deliver the power of your pistol at much greater range and with much greater accuracy. That would be ideal in a hostage situation or when you face shooters in a populated setting." This Smith & Wesson approach is appreciated and, of course, respected. Still, there are other carbines out there including the old Marlin Camp Carbines which never got a fair test in my opinion. For law enforcement and others in high level security endeavors, a carbine in the same caliber and using the same magazines as their duty pistol that is ALSO easily broken down and stowed would be, I imagine, a great answer to a common problem. However, I would argue that a rifle sold WITHOUT sights is not a rifle at all. Smith erred, I believe, for not including, at the very least, a set of low cost easily detachable sights made of some high density plastic. Lastly, this carbine is not designed for military conflict but rather the domestic and LEO market where pricision is a higher concern than capacity although capacity is VERY important. Thus, I criticize, although not vehemently, the design of the spare magazine release, in the shoulder stock, which will not allow for the shooter to stay on target and draw another magazine and place it in battery using only the off hand. Clearly that is a two hand operation.
@sootch00 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Lauro! I appreciate the points you made about the FPC. Sights would definitely be a huge plus and the spare mag release isn't ideal for a quick reload. The Ruger PC9 would be a good comparison though, since it's a break down carbine. Might make a good comparison. The Kel-tec Sub 2000 has to have a trigger upgrade to be a serious consideration. Take care Brother

Great points Lauro. Unbelievable that Smith & Wesson would MSRP a firearm at $600 plus, without sights, that you can't really shoot right out of the box. I mean c'mon, this wouldn't even be expected from a low cost manufacturer never mind Smith & Wesson for crying out loud. Kel-Tec cheaped out on a few things as well but at least it's an accurate shooter right out of the box.

But since there are lots of different kinds of animals, I want this rifle to be able to handle most encounters. It won't be an ideal bear gun. But it should be able to get the job done. I would rather have it in 10mm. But since these foldable rifles are not offered in 10mm, I have to work with the options available. The hottest .40 S&W load I can find is Underwood JHP that has a muzzle velocity of 1300 with a 150gr projectile. That is reaching lower 10mm velocities. So if I run it through a rifle length barrel, I can maximize its powder burn for even higher velocities while sending a fairly heavy round down range. Faster and heavier than what 9mm can do, even with +P. With extended mags, I don't even have to worry about if I will have enough rounds. It isn't ideal for hunting or anything. But it offers a good level of protection beyond what my S&W M&P 2.0 in 9mm can do. I know a lot of people hate on .40. But it isn't a bad round. And it is super cheap. I feel that every round has a place. I feel that .40 S&W with the right ammunition can really shine in this kind of setup.

Thanks, esp for breakdown. Just got mine love it. The build quality makes sub 2000 seem like a cracker jack box gun! For those dwelling on glock mags…..if you need more than 60 rds, you are not in home or personal defense>>>>you are in a ‘war’ zone, good grief!

Looks like an ideal "support weapon" (especially with extra ammunition) along with safety being promoted: don't be surprised if Smith and Wesson have to make extra to keep up with supply - creativity at it's best - no wonder they're still in business!.

OMG I have to have that! I have an M&P 15, 9mm and Shield. I wish they would have come out with that a couple of years ago. I bought the Ruger PC-9 Carbine, which is great, but I still would have bought that M&P instead.

The gain in velocity with 45 acp isnt worth it. 40S&W isnt much better. 10mm and 9mm gain much more velocity from longer barrels.

The first time releasing the stock pin was such a pain fumbling around. Once I did it and saw what was going on, now it takes 1.5 seconds to release it ha. Note, I think it's easier to do while the fpc is extended, not folded. Also for me it's easier to pull just the circular pin straight out, no need to even touch the mag release "tabs"

I'm a S&W fanboy. I carry the SHield and have the M&P 9 full size for home. I'm a big believer that trigger pull is essential to great shooting. I like that this has the same trigger as both of my pistols and can use the magazines from the full size. I like this over an AR because I can throw it into a bug-out bag and go without having to pack several types of ammo (though I will keep +P for the stopping power. I've always thought that if I need an AR in my sleepy neighborhood then I probably need more than an AR because the situation is indeed dire. Thanks for the video

@RealJohnnyDingo Жыл бұрын
if you read the fine print in the manual, it is not caliber specific. it also mentions a .40s&w variant. The way the m&p pistol is designed, that would be a simple design variation (bolt and barrel, maybe a different spring) as the mag well is the same. Maybe they have a 10mm in the works too, that would be cool.

I like the design over all, looks like they designed it with a lot of aftermarket potential, if these get popular enough…I can see someone developing a hydraulic buffer for it.

Better late than never, but certainly late. If S&W had come out with this 6 years ago I would have went with it instead of what I did. I am now too vested in Glock and Kel-Tec Sub 2000-2 with MCARBO upgrades to do this now. Grab and go with 63 rounds in 3 mags all contained is impressive.
@mro2352 Жыл бұрын
I have a Shield that I carry. I have been waffling on what platform to get and wanted a foldable carbine but the sub-2k has its issues. I wanted the interoperability with a weapon that can be carried as if I am I can legally justify carrying full mags but have an optic that stays true to zero.

@@ShogunMongol There is a latch for the charging handle located at the underside of the forward-most part of the receiver tube. It connects to the front inside face of the charging handle and keeps the charging handle in place while shooting. If his handle is moving, then either the latch is inop, or he just didn't use the handle correctly in the first place.

I love my Kel-Tec Sub2000s. Own a gen 1 in .40S&W and gen 2 in 9mm. You hit on every thing wrong with the Kel-Tec and everything right with the fpc. My only concern with the Smith is the mlok being plastic. I worry about the stability of the optic over time. Other than that, your review is spot on. Many thanks and prayers for good health and strength to you and yours.
